  1. This may be common knowledge but it was a surprise to me. Ordered TRW rear carriers from vwspares.co.uk and what came out of the box are Lucas carriers exactly like genuine ones. Even the rubber boots are girling, same as genuine ones. Only difference seems to be that vw charge about 4 times more!

    Rear Bearings

oemparts.co.uk do SKF bearings about £13 a side, they also sell on ebay but its slightly cheaper to go direct to their website. I noticed they also do SKF disks with "integrated bearings" which might mean they are supplied already pressed in. I was going to ask but didn't bother in the end as I got VAG disks from veedubmachine and only bought the bearings from oemparts.
  3. anyone know the part number for the stub axle/dust shield bolts? vw have 2 depending on whether you look at the dust shield or stub axle diagram but I thought they are the same bolts holding the lot on. bolts for shield N9087701 (m10 x 24.5) £11.23 for 8 or bolts for stub axle N90877301 (m10 x 32) £5.86 for 8 only difference seems to be that the second ones are longer but half the price!?
  4. pieced this together from various posts but was going to ask about amount of grease, seen one guide that virtually stuffs the whole of the inside including the cap. thought this looked a little OTT.
  5. I offered them up and they seemed ok, unlike the carrier pins, they're pretty bad and there are 2 different types, is that normal? one has the flat parts running down it and the other doesn't.
  6. I'd take it if it was 62 delivered. what do you think?
  7. great, cheers for the the reassurance. after cleaning it up it was clearly not as bad as it seemed. I thought the worst because everytime I do something on the car it seems to expand to something 3 times more expensive! Although I know I'm not alone with that one.
  8. Thanks Kip, On closer inspection I can feel a very slight ridge on the top of the part where the outer bearing sits. only just feel it with my fingernail, is this also ok?
  9. Just changing my rear bearings and the stub axle has some discoloured patches where the bearings sit. Doesn't look particularly worn but does this look like a problem? http://s1300.photobucket.com/user/guspw/slideshow/Stub%20axle%20wear Don't really want to buy 2 new stub axles but also don't want it to wear out my new bearings.
  10. I'm after mint ones so I'll pass, cheers anyway.
  11. Making no judgement here as I've not tried to buy anything of this guy myself but just noticed one search result posted above shows he's managed to get banned from a saxo forum a couple of years back! http://www.saxperience.com/forum/showthread.php?p=5400894
  12. I prefer the look of the red ones, fancy selling them on? not sure what mileage they do but its usually carelessness when removing them that gets them first.
  13. Sorry, sudden change of heart, think I'll leave them.
  14. how do you keep getting hold these!? you sold 4 of them for £10 each last year. any chance you'd give one up for 15?
  15. if money is the issue then some kwik fits now have hunter 4 wheel alignment. Free check and about £40 to adjust. Only problem is you have to trust that the newly trained 4 wheel alignment guy knows what he's doing but at least they're not fitting parts. took my girlfriends 206 there, they also put it up on screen in the waiting room so you can see them adjusting it.
  16. sorry didn't get the part number just described it over the phone, but I believe the number posted by fendervg above is right. probably pick up my parts tomorrow so will check receipt.
  17. just ordered one from vw for £29.45. now 1 left in factory.
  18. cheers for the comments, In the end I went for vag disks and pagid pads from veedubmachine for £67.62 ,(includes abs rings and delivery.) and skf bearings from oemparts.co.uk for £13 a side. bolts from vw.
  19. just phoned them and asked about it. he said the pads and bearings weren't oe quality, he also realized that it didn't make sense to match vag disks with lower quality bearings so he may change the offer. he offered to give me VAG disks, pagid pads and lucas bearings for £82 or £87 with abs rings. anyone know if these are any good?
  20. Anyone bought and fitted these? http://www.veedubmachine.co.uk/brake-kit-vag-discs-rear-mk3-golf-gti-vr6-corrado-vr6-passat-p-779.html Just wondering on the quality/make of the bearings really as with the price of VAG rear disks these days this sounds like a good deal.
  21. could it also be a misfire blasting gasses into the intake?
  22. payment sent, thanks for storing this. Cheers Gus
  23. Yes please, yes please, yes please! Was just thinking about getting some made but didn't really know where to start so perfect timing if you do go ahead with it! Also happy to pay up front!
