  1. If your using it in the winter Id get some other protection on the underside. Ive just done the Mk2 and Corrado with some Por15 rust prevention coating. Its like waxoil but better from what I can see. Ive put in on the underside, rear beam, wishbones, subframe and rad support. I got the clear stuff and all it does darken the colour very slighty when dry but for me I wouldnt care if it was pink, so long as it does its job. http://www.frost.co.uk/item_Detail.asp? ... t%20(473ml)%20US%20Pint
  2. I very much doubt this is going to happen, where do you draw the line with it being lowered for example? Will they have a factory set ride height that is used for reference, surely any car even after a month or so will be riding lower. What about replacement parts, you could argue that unless its OE then its modified. I can see them getting tough on heavily modified almost un roadworthy cars but then again at what point do you say its not fit for driving down the road. If that does happen then its time to get rid of mine as there is not a hope in hell it would pass.
  3. I understand where he is coming from, its what I did on my road bike i.e. going from a full on sports bike to a naked bike that kept the speed down. What I found though is that I rode more aggressively to get a thrill. I prefer to have a fast car and have a choice to go slow or fast. Driving a slow car fast is fine if your in the mood but soon gets taxing.
  4. The reason why I never ever run locking bolts. There just more hassle than there worth. Never heard of anyone getting there wheels nicked these days.
  5. Ive just done the underside of the Mk2 with some Por15 sealant and its much better. There was a thread on clubgti about it with a link to a guy that did some test using similar stuff and waxoil was not very good.

Its not slow but yes you do have to wind the thing up, @88k miles its just run in. Ive been using it all this week. Got the tyres swapped for some 50 profile today to help with ride. Its polybushed all round with braided hoses all and in good nick underneath. Happy days, some Por15 sealent and its now ready for winter!!
  7. Rain, mud etc i dont care about. The car gets dirty (I actually really like a car thats mawkit - good scottish word for you). The only thing I hate is wet salty roads, you just know no matter what prep you do it will still start it evil corrosion nonsense.

My seats look the same as your. TH2's back on and took it for a quick wash. Doing my first trackday with it in a months time and should get it RR'd in a couple of weeks. Lets hope its dry.
  9. Cant really say much but better to have loved and lost than not loved at all. Easy for me to say but at the end of the day its just a lump of metal, as long as you are fine thats all that matters.
  10. Check my avatar, supermoto. This but Im not quite as good as these guys -
  11. Photo of lights would be good, sounds interesting.
  12. No luck. Thats some list, I race bikes for a hobby and Ive only broken a finger in 3 years!!! I remeber this happening to my dad and he was layed up for a while. Speedy recovery.
  13. Good idea but I cant help think they are a bit weak after seeing that video, especially if the headlights are on.
  14. I hope Steve Soper hangs his head in shame. The other guy is smarmy git.

First mod on the Mk2, had to have a bit from a Corrado in there somewhere :D . I must say Im loving it and its a good change from the torquey VR and Tdi.
  17. Christ how low do you run if you can see the fuel tank!!! After driving the Mk2 for the last two days it makes the Corrado feel like a new car. Im amazed there from roughly the same era. I never liked the mix of Mk2 trim in the early cars, the later trim suits the car a lot better. I think the green started when it was offered on the Mk3 Golf as well so around 93/94.
  18. Good to hear. Will try and fit mine over the winter when the car is tucked away.

Just been through the history. Looks like it was a London then Kent car up until mid 2008 which probably explains lack of rust compared to a Scottish car. Its had a few belt changes and clutch change only 10kmiles ago. Every MOT back to 97 and every tax back to 92. It was registered 21years ago this very week!!!

Thanks, Id remember preferring the PAS on my old ones. It felt like a flat tyre to start with. The PAS rack must be quiker as well as it does need a fair bit of input to get round tight corners. Is it hard to retrofit? Rack and pump required?

Yep, Helious Blue. It really does make the Corrado feel so modern but at the same time thats probably why I like it so much as its completely different.

After coming to my senses and deciding to keep the VR I did think about another toy. Im always on the look out for a Mk2 Golf 16v in silver but they are near on impossible to find so Id given up. Was even thinking of selling the Mk4 and getting an S2 Avant but I again came to my senses. Not the best daily runner. Started looking again last weekend and went to look at a 2.1 16v on Pistonheads. Decent car but after finiding out a few things the engine spec didnt really suit what I wanted. Id seen this on Scottishvag and always liked it. Seems like its been looked after and has just had timing belt, leads, water pump, filters, rear beam rebuilt, polybushed, braided hoes etc etc so I contacted the guy and decided to go down to check it out. Since it was down near Glasgow and I not the easiest place to get to I took a trailer just in case i liked it. Took it for a run and realised it was about 10years since I last drove a Mk2. It felt so old despite only having 88kmiles on the clock but I loved it, doesnt even have power steering!!!! Drove ok, no real issues so did the deal. Im going to sort the little bits of rust, fit my spare Corrado wheel maybe get some 280mm brakes and some more compliant suspension. Good to be back in a proper Gti, it makes me feel 19 again (feck I sound like an old git!!)
