8v mate i find them a bit more torquey and she doesnt exactly rag it around with big revs :D , so the 8 v was more suited to her driving.

Geeez ....it's like plucking at hairs in here sometimes I had 5 mm plus the backing left on the pads when the tester failed it for having 1.5mm plus the backing who cares about the backing all i said is at 5mm if it was a service they would be thrown away ,if you read back through my posts i was on you side as the tester was an arse hole for failing them and he had no right to so go and ask him why the hell he did , IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN AN ADVISORY AT THE MOST. you were the one that said there were no pads 19.6mm as new , well there are loads .

the only thing she does nt like is it has no power steering , so i told her we will pump the tyres up a bit more , sorted :D

my mum drives a mk2 gti and she is 62 :D
-
so do i run mk4 disc then to retain the caliper and its mounting, and how much did the stub etc cost .

] 5mm is approx. half worn.....i've yet to see any pads that are 19.6mm thickwhen new  sorry mate loads of pads on the market are 19mm at least, 5mm is nearly stuffed if it was a service on a car with 5mm left on the pads they would be replaced. The minimum figure given for Golf and Corrado pads is 7mm including the backing. Now the figures i quote do not include the backing. the backing is around the 5mm so 2mm of lining left then ish best throw them in the bin get some new ones :D

thats a fair comment but its not the testers place to fail them unless there 1.5mm or below , if he had been a good guy he would have put an advisory notice on them drawing atention to them that way but he had no right to fail them the test is only good for the day it is also way way down from a service as a service is to get any car as close to new as possible , but an mot is just a bare minimum , its all wrong but true im affraid, its the goverment again :cuckoo:

last one i promise just to show people they are more than capable of these speeds food for thought aye :)

Yikes. That helps explain why the S4 is so cheap to buy. I think realistically i'd only ever consider one if I could afford to write off that £5,000 - like just have the car for a toy and if it broke badly, just sell it spares or repair. Would be a great toy though - I really really like big understated saloon cars, and the sorts of cars that only car nuts know are quick! Something like this would fit the bill. Astonishing it'll do over 170MPH though... like, bordering on shocking in fact. it was just redlining at that and it was running 400 bhp mind you i dont know how accurate the speedo is up that end , hence the vr is cheap to run and fix in my eyes

i take it no one knows or doesnt want to commit to an answer, i cant be the only person who wants to do this , can i
-
put it on flea bay someones bound to buy it
-
done it cant hurt :salute:
-
fair game to the french thou they get the job done and dont take any crap. and there fuel is cheaper than ours
-
if they have no direction arrows they can go any where , i love getting new wheels enjoy
-
i had one if you want running cost, the corrado is peanuts you can get a new vege engine for a vr for 1900 quid ,the turbos on the s4 were 700 each and a 28 hour job to do it that and a few other things is why i sold it , if you own one make sure you have 3k in the bank on stand by , in saying that it was the quickest car i have ever had it was fantastic fun , 60 in 4.8 and 172mph from a 4 door saloon it was not standard thou it had pretty much every mod going , one of them being 365mm full floating discs and 8 pot brembos for starters, i do miss the power but not the worry of buying new turbos etc.
-
well anything could be dud when its new , have you done a wet test as well to see if that makes any diiference , either way both reading off both cars are good so i realy would not worry , i have done loads of compression tests on many different cars and them readings are all tidy and there all even.
-
hi does anyone know definately which hubs will fit on the rear of the vr so i can run seperate discs instead of the hub and disc in one ,and then also which disc also many thanks in advance . i did a search and came up with nothing definate as far as i could see.
-
just keep it if your not bored , and worry about thing s if they do happen not if they might happen , i really hate this mind block people have about mileage just enjoy youself lifes to short :D
-
i did that with mine and they were still naf maybe the springs were just stuffed but they felt firm enough to hold the wiper to the screen
-
i mot cars also and most cars you cant see the pads on properly , you dont just guess , its as bad to fail something that doesnt need doing as missing something that does in V.O.S.A. s eyes , just for the hell of it ask him what device he used to measure the pads with
-
bang on if it was oily in there you would have problems all good as far as pic shows :salute:
-
pic then please , dare i say i have wanted to change them but want a oem look , but not the rubber ones.
