VR6 Review from 1993..a better year for Man U fans..
sprinterVR6 replied to sprinterVR6's topic in General Car Chat
I know!! How cool is that? So now we really can say we drive a 'type' of Supercar :norty: granted, it's bottom of the barrel and would be 'owned' i think is the expression, in a 0-60 dash.. Still though  -
nice colour for sure - tax disc location is 'diferent'! but I like it. I see the grill badge has been gently removed! There's a dude selling a ''geniune' G60 grill badge on Ebay?? He's looking for £50 i think :pukeright:

St. Mirren eh? Good call, although Peterhead are my fav Scottish team as I made a fortune off them in season 2005-2006 - would've been promoted again had not been for those pesky Partick Thistle bas'tods! -
i heard some bad words on the FK's - think it was in a review section. Dude said they were a nightmare and had them off in less then 2 weeks.... I'll be updating this post with my review on V-Maxx coilovers once their fitted :confused4:

The "what I did to my Corrado today" thread...
sprinterVR6 replied to Jim's topic in General Car Chat
...fired it up after one key turn after it'd been sitting on drive way for over a month.....no issues...this was after the missus 'modern' 2005 car packed up! I say no issues, but the drive to the train station showed up a horrible sound from the left rear shock...just as well I've just received word that Mr DHL man has just delivered a large package to my wife :camp: ...thankfully it's either the V-Maxx coilovers , or the Jetex exhaust system!! Massy, those wheel look well cool - fairly simple and not overly fancy design, but really works :salute: -
Not sure if I've seen this review posted before so thought I'd throw it up. MOTORING / Auto Biography: VW Corrado VR6 JOHN FORDHAM Sunday, 13 June 1993 THE Volkswagen Corrado VR6 rules OK. It ruled pretty OK when it was just the Corrado G60, but last autumn - when it came here with the compact and beautifully designed V6 engine conceived for the breezier versions of the Mark 3 Golf - it matured into a machine of awesome competence, panache and performance. Buffs began discussing it in the same sentences as the Mazda RX7, or those snip-priced Porsches that come in at around pounds 35,000. The Corrado is, of course, something of a buff's car. It's low-slung and low-roofed; it looks like the kind of blunt and stubby projectile designed to be fired from a catapult; its suspension is firm; and it's nobody's idea of refined in the Nineties sense, whatever VW might say. Yet in its own way, the Corrado VR6 is not simply a piece of exotica made by an otherwise sober manufacturer, but a safe and practical performance car - once you accept that it's a true sports coupe and not a sleek facsimile. It is a remarkable sprinter, but that's only a small part of the story. Though it looks a shade old-fashioned, like a hatchback that's been squashed, the Corrado's chassis is so well conceived that its responses to throttle position when cornering are strikingly sharp. Almost ideal weighting of the power-steering completes the sensation of driver, vehicle and road contours being in intimate contact. The Corrado hasn't sold particularly well in Britain, nor has it held out against depreciation, probably because its distinctiveness is just too quirky and its driving capacities too rarely capable of being safely explored in everyday use. But it's already a classic, and, compared to some of its BMW and Porsche rivals, at a little over pounds 20,000 it's cheap. GOING PLACES: sensational pocket-battleship V6 engine, delivering 190 brake horsepower at 5,800 revs per minute, 181 ft/lbs of torque at 4,200 rpm. Gearshift a little clunky, but power unit acceptably quiet at motorway speeds, with subtle traction- control braking devices to limit wheelspin - a potential problem with a powerful front-drive car. 0-60mph in 6.5 secs, similar for 50-70mph overtaking range in fourth. STAYING ALIVE: VW-standard ruggedness, with bigger engine not compromising front crumple-zone structures. Anti-lock brakes and front-wheel traction control (sensors automatically brake a spinning wheel) standard, but no airbag. Superb handling in all conditions from one of the best designed and engineered chassis around. CREATURE COMFORTS: rather austere interior, instrumentation and fittings more basic than the more upmarket competitors. Excellent sporty front seats, acceptable space at the rear though headroom tight. Bootspace limited by stubby shape. Good driving position flexibility, with height adjustable seat and steering column. Ventilation system much improved by 1993 model's rotary controls. BANGS PER BUCK: power steering, alloy wheels, ABS brakes, traction control, central locking, electric front windows, electric tilt/slide sunroof. Acceptable fuel consumption for power output, approx 21mpg (urban), 30mpg at motorway speeds. STAR QUALITY: classic-quality sports coupe, high power blended to handling balance and safety in state-of-the-art relationship. Comparable to machines on bottom rung of the supercar league, but much cheaper. TURKEY QUOTIENT: distinctly unslinky shape, boxy interior, space limitations for family use. AND ON MY RIGHT: BMW 325i Coupe ( pounds 21,875): close- run thing - better on refinement, ride and explicit class, slightly less sharp on handling; Lancia Delta Integrale ( pounds 23,395): faster, bumpier, crazier; Porsche 968 (pounds 33,500): no faster up to the limit, or sharper on the bends, but more kudos - and a lot more cash.

that's unlucky chap - crazy how so many had very similier incident! :pale: slightly off topic but, with the coilovers, it seems the consenus is that it's best to buy quality rather the cheaply. A mistake I make back on my first VR. Still quite surprised just how expensive a medium to top end coilover set is...eg KW V'1 at £600...and yet you can get a set of standard FK AK coilers for just £270? Now I know alot of people have mentioned it's 'night & day' between cheap and expensive set-ups, but without sounding like Karl from the Ricky Garvais Show, how bad can the cheap set be?? It's hardly like the KW V'1 will feel like a magical 'Hoverboard' from Back to the Future as it goes over your average crappy road - just as much as the FK's won't, contrary to belief, shake the eye-balls out've your sockets! bit've a rant sorry, just Monday's dragging on a bit...

my VR was driven into an Audi Dealership (not literally) to be scraped in exchange for a shiney new A3 Thankfully forum member 'Pat McCrotch' who works there saw it roll onto his forecourt....and few weeks later I drove it over to Ireland for keeps  Not sure how he managed it in light of above 'hands off' policy

nice car mate! I paid exact same for mine too  ! Bodywork on mine needs some work also!, and would you belive it, I'm getting a full exhaust system in this week (Jetex) along with, you guessed it, new suspension set up!! It's spooky! Can I just second the below remarks - they really hit the nail on the head for the many people who will ask you....''why''???.....my answer has always been, ''why the f#ck not''! enjoy and keep us up to date on your progress  -
another couple! Though I was not present at the time.... couple of dudes doing leafet drops stopped in the driveway and, according to the missus who was sat inside, spent ages walking round the car and checking the inside etc (you do worry sometimes though :pale: ) again, delivery guy dropping off my new Sony Head Unit this morning, ah'thank'u  , Delivery guy: ''that your fella's car is it?'' the wife in mock-angry tone to doubt: ''yeah, it's his pride and joy'' DG: ''tell him he's a very lucky man'' Wife Blushing: ''why thanks'' DG: ''No, I mean the car love''

can someone tell me if, when purchasing a new exhaust system from say Demon Tweeks or Venom, that the new exhaust item will include fitting stuff like the canisters and clips, and those rubber things????? CHEERS :salute:
-
[*] Doesn't forum member 'Pat McCrotch' work in Audi/VW Ipswish branch  He was great with me when it came to buying my Storm. So there, one good seed in every rotten apple eh
-
Yeah just read another one of his posts on another thread. :? sorry Guys - was just venting  it was in relation to the V-Maxx coiler kit I'm getting. despite my last post, am I right in thinking v-maxx, while not being V-1's, aren't really 'cheapo coliovers'?? I'd hardly say £360 - £400 coilovers are in the 'pay less, pay twice' catagory  I will of course inform on how the ride quality is once their on :salute:
-
x3 They look exactly the same as the v-maxx. As said above, they're bouncy but bearable. But again, as already said... for only an extra £200 you could get something ALOT better. I wasted £350 on the v-maxx and got rid after about 2 months and speaking from experience what i replaced them with are so much better. Arrrrrrrrrgh :censored: :censored: !!!!
-
well that's just great :brickwall: - I'm about to collect a set of V-max coilers from 'frankie'! :pale: Tell me there not that bad!! They were voted 'Fast Car - Coilover of the year 2007'. Fact!
-
Repeat Chufties - was parked outside Maternity Hospital few weeks back for couple hours a day and a elderly gent walked past checking the car out - eventully the car must've got the better of him, 'cus he popped out his earphones and came over to chat. ''wow, that's in great nick'', ''how long you had it'', ''quick isn't it (knowing nod of head)?'' then he mentioned he seen it all week and even walked out've his way to look at it
-
cheers timdoc  yeah, I've found I can still get my 7 hrs sleep, it's just in little piece's of time  fairly knackered today and heading on a stag weekend in 2hrs :gag: :pale: it's great to know there's a good few of us still living the dream of family plus sports car  IT CAN BE DONE
-
mate - your car is spot on. And like vaghag, it's pretty much how I want mine to end up like. I know you mentioned the new ride height as being from centre of wheel arch to ground (i think), but would you know what the drop was in mm's? Was it 40mm? Thanks
-
here here! Itch'n to get back into it in the next few weeks. Getting some coilovers, a Miltek system, new panel Air Filter, new plugs & Pioneer head unit  For now it's just sitting on the driveway teasing me every morning as I climb into the wife's excuse for a car
-
wow! those carpets came up singing - cracking job sir. It's a stunning example from those first post pics. +1 on the lowering - I'm sorting my Storm out in nx few weeks with some coily's
-
:( Don't mind him mate - green is ''one'' of the best colours. I reckon it looks nice and mean in low light and a bit classy when bright. Don't forget, the Incredible Hulk was green - so, basically, there u go, end of.
-
thanks mate! Yep 1-0 already. The deawoo tissue box thing is being got rid of next month thankfully, it's a crock of sh!te! the wife seems fine with my promptings of a 2.0 2005 Golf FSi 150bhp!! She even mentioned the Mark 5 GTi!! Call it insania, but I veto'd that as i reckon it's too bloody fast for her! plus, it would compete for 'driveway show piece' with the Storm!! Can't have that!
-
Thanks Timdoc - Yes, mother and baby boy doing great  Born Mon 5th, so just back in work today. And the C was the wagon of choice for bringing the little man home. And, as it turned out, the wife's Daewoo yoke was useless for getting the car seat and pram in - enter the C!! No issue's at all. Grand-parents now converts to the cause!
