  1. i bet he's handy in a puncture situation!
  2. Which speakers are you looking to upgrade and what year is your C? earlier models didnt have door speakers, although the pods/grilles are there, which will make a difference to what advice you get. Mines the earlier type and I'm running a set of pioneer TS-E1075's in the dash running off the HU then in the boot running from a small amp are some magnat classic 6x9's on the rear shelf and a 12" sub. The oringal 6x4's at the rear are disconnected. Theres two schools of thought over 6x9's, one for and one against. I've found mine do improve the sound but you're better off investing in a decent set of speakers to put up front and stick a sub in the back, your sound stage will be all the better for it.
  3. same here henny - well simular at least... according to a letter I still have from my old headmaster, i 'hacked' the computers on two seperate occasions, once by guessing the librarians password which let me play pool on the old powermac's in the library and once by finding a floppy disc and running an interesting looking .exe off it. hardly matters of national security but i got all my computer privilidges taken off me :( they should have been encoraging my tallents!
  4. I think maybe we're expecting too much from the stealers, you'd think working for VW they'd be at least semi-interested in the brand, but sadly in reality to the vast majority of them its 'just a job'.
  5. i've run out of petrol on the a1 before now, knowing full well i needed to fill up but trying to make it to the next service station with a burger king because i was hungry, not only did i feel like a plum I didnt get my burger king for another 2 hours!
  6. for the best results you should go for coilovers, prices vary but roughly £500 and up! you can get spring/damper kits for half the price but the results wont be as good. The h&r spring/koni damper combination is considered best by most people with a drop of around 30-40mm 'about right' in terms of handling. fitting can be expensive, mostly down to the labour. Also worth buying new bumpstops and top mounts as your current ones are likely to be dead. i learnt all this the hard way by buying cheap springs/shocks and being disapointed, and also forgetting to get the top mounts and bumpstops which made things worse! they're only cheap too!! doh....
  7. not a major thing, but post-facelift the front wings are slightly wider as well as what you mentioned above.
  8. I've always thought 'female only' insurance companies are treading on thin ice , its blatent sexisim! imagine if it was the other way around? there'd be women lining the streets burning their car-bras! Fair enough offering them lower policys if the statistics say they're less of a risk, but surely it's illegal to promote yourself as a 'female only' company?
  9. I think they'd look cool, I dunno what sizes they come in but IMO they'd need to be at least 17's to work

  11. woah shiny!! looks immaculate, very nice!
  12. funny you should start this thread, i was going to ask the same thing! mines not making too many 'strangled cat' type noises yet but its getting there.
  13. classic turbo/supercharged car - the Nissan 'March super-turbo' or micra to us non japanese people. 110bhp from a 930cc engine...not bad going!
  14. somewhere around 60-80mm seems to look best although that might be a little low on 15's! mines lowered 40mm on 16's and the (90mm) spoiler doesnt catch that often but looks wise its not as low as i'd like. if its a 94 you'll have the smaller front spoiler allowing you to go that little bit lower without it catching.
  15. in answer to your first question I think you're going to be looking at a 1.8 16v since you're 21, unless you have a really friendly insurance company or you're loaded! I average between 25-30mpg in my valver but i do have a lead foot! generally valvers are cheaper to run since they share engines with the 16v mk2 golf/jetta and (IIRC) a passat meaning spares are resonably easy to find and most garages are capable of fixing them without any hasstles. dont be put off by it being the 'bottom of the range' engine either, they're fast enough and bags of fun.
  16. i agree with dave, front arch looks a bit 'too' flared IMO you should be able to at least see a bit of tire!
  17. didnt they do a test of all the tuned cooper s's on top gear a while back? IIRC one was up near the 300bhp mark!!
  18. i know i expressed interest before kev, but I think its a bit out of my budget. looks like a quality product and worth every penny, just a bit too steep for me.
  19. One of my mates has one, they accelerate in low gears very very quickly, but as has already been said at around the 100mph mark they start to loose momentum. I suppose at the end of the day they're still a 1.6 and as the saying goes...theres no replacement for displacement! I've not driven it myself but my mate reckons the handling is superb and it certainly feels well planted on the road from a passengers perspective. I've said this before, i like them, but i wouldnt have one! they're far too 'trendy', much like the TT.

    seats

IIRC with the correct subframes both the TT seats and just about any porker seats will fit. Someone posted a little while ago saying they could get/make porsche subframes...
  21. nice idea kev! I looked at the autoacoustics site for a 'stealthbox' when I first got the sub, but they dont list the C, depending on costs i'd be interested in that. I'll hang fire on anything for now until the GB comes up!
  22. space is the main issue really, the box i have used to wedge in just nicely between the 'hump' of the spare wheel and the wheelarch, but since i've now got a spare borbet in the boot the humps bigger and the box doesnt fit anymore. It's currently laying on its back with the sub facing up towards the bottoms of the 6x9's (only way it'll fit!) which obviously isnt ideal. I thought about a false floor but thats not really going to help as the magnets on my 6x9's are HUGE and the sub box wont fit in upright if the floor is the same height as the top of the hump!
  23. I've currently got a fairly cheap 12" sub, before that I ran a 10" for a month until the dodgy amp I had at the time killed it. I've been toying with the idea of going back to a 10" this afternoon to save boot space but wondered what you guys thought? I'm not too fussed about stupidly high volumes, just nice clean punchy bass when its needed.
