theres probably a highly technical name for them, but its the plastic handles you use to close the door i'm talking about. Mine look a bit like a dogs been chewing on them, and i wondered if you can just replace them or if its a whole new doorcard job? I suppose the other alternative is to whip out the sandpaper and smooth them down, which i dont like the idea of much!

hutchy, I reckon yours must be about the same age as mine, the manual windows werent about for long as far as i know, and mine has them too! although i dont have door speakers and IIRC it wasnt a standard thing for a while (might have been an optional extra) perhaps a previous owner re-routed the wires from the dash to the doors to get some bigger speakers in?
-
probably something to do with 'crumple zones' to absorb the impact of an accident...maybe! i could just be talking out of my ar$e! bad luck though mate, thankfully it wasnt any worse and you had your wits about you!
-
I'm not sure what size fits in the doors, but the ones i have in the dash are 10cm (4" i think) and they 'just' fit without having to hack away at the dash, if you go for componants i dont think you'd have too much trouble fitting the tweeters in the dash, should be loads of room! and yeah, if you run them off the amp you should end up with a really sweet set up! try doing a search for something like 'front door speakers'. I'm sure its been covered before :) One thing you might find is that with the volume cranked up the original rear speakers do more harm than good, as they'll distort way before the amp'd ones do.

arent they 6x4's or something? personally i wouldn't bother, you dont need them for bass if you've got a sub back there, and if you get some good speakers up front you probably wont even hear the mids/highs they produce. I've got 6x9's on my back shelf which I could quite easily turn off and not really notice much difference apart from a bit of a lack of midrange, but then I'm just running speakers in the dash up front where was you (having a vr) can put something in the doors and get that midrange back. if i were you i'd disconnect the rear speakers and just have the sub back there, then get some componants for the front, mounting the tweeters in the dash and the mids in the doors. unless of course you carry people in the back who are going to complain they cant hear the music!

nice standard looking C!

fair point, i honestly didnt look at the speedo i was to busy trying to stop myself staining my jeans, but I dont think we got up to that sort of speed anyway!

chrisvr6nos (or whatever his forum name is!) imports them through his company http://www.japspeed.net they've have 3 gts-t's over recently in various states of tune and dispite them being the 'poorer' brother of the GTR they're still bloody quick! I've been lucky enough to drive one of them...very carefully! I'm happy to say though, chris's supercharged VR was equal, if not faster than, one of the ones they brought over in a blat down..er..private road....he kept ahead! the gts-t was 2 up with the boost cranked up a few notches (and me holding on for grim death!) and chris was 1 up in his VR with this NOS off. They're getting more common up here, theres actually a fair few around the sunderland/newcastle area, i'd still love one though, its next on my 'want' list when i eventually get rid of the C.

what just a 'W'?  -
coming into the conversation a little late here but i have to agree with that. Its up to the individual to do with their car what they see fit, but if you saw a mini one driving about with a cooper S badge on the back, you'd probably be thinking the same as me...WHY!? I dont see the point of badging an already pretty unusual car as something its not, its not going to gain him anything other than a few frowns from C enthusiasts, but like i've already said each to their own.

sold mine for £100 not long ago and from the level of interest I got at the time i wish I'd asked for more!

I heard once (and i dont know how accurate this is) that things like exhausts and filters give about a 3% increase in BHP on average. I got a custom SS system fitted to my 1.8 a few months after I got it and it made a huge difference, although that was mostly due to the fact that EVERY box on the old system was blowing! I did the K&N+drilled airbox mod a while back and ended up having to tape over some of the holes with ductape as it started pinking quite badly. You're not really going to gain much power from either mod, but a SS exhaust looks nicer and if you pick the right one, sounds the mutts nuts! oh, and throttle response seemed better after the K&N, but its so slight i'm not sure if i'm just imagining it! :|

:bday: I'm here for the party...what do you mean i'm 3 days late? :( happy belated birthday henster!

$85,000 for the top-spec one?!!? $85,000!!!!!!

it'd take more than a little work to get a C looking like that, what car is the photoshop based on because the curve of the roof (and lots of other bits) deffinatly dont look like a C to me! -edit- yup, it does look like a BMW....
-
i'm sure i replied to this before...odd...i've probably posted somewhere utterly random instead! oh well.... Dealer was cheaper than Pitstop, but i'll check out volkspartz and see what they can do. As for the wheel refurbers, its right next to where i work so I'll probably drop in this week at some point in between getting a tyre fitted and (hopfully) getting it in for a service. busy old week for my C!
-
loose the rear wiper! i did mine not that long ago and then realised winter was coming and thought 'AR$E!!' but TBH its not made much difference. if the rear windows misted in the morning then just wipe it over with your hand then stick the rear window heater on...job done. I think it looks a load better although the comments from people at work went along the lines of 'well whos going to notice that!?' philistines! I wouldnt be loosing my mirrors though, i like the crap sounding motors in them too much
-
Its service time again! well actually its long overdue but nevermind :S Up til now the cars got full VW history, but, as its now 14 years old and not worth a great deal as it is, is it worth keeping up the VW service or saving a bit of cash and taking it to an independant? (pit stop in newcastle - been recomended by a couple of local C owners on the forum) surely its not going to make a huge difference to the value or its attractivness when the time comes to sell it?

a mate of mines just bought a cooper s and says its quick off the line, but a bit poo at motorway speeds which i suppose echos the 'overtaking' comment before. They're ok IMO, but they're a bit of a trendy car and i wouldnt have one for the same reasons I wouldnt have a TT, far too common in the super-fashonable circles! Give me a subtle g60'd mk1 with a few tweeks and i'll show the mini boys whos boss! better looking, faster, more exclusive and more of a head turner for a fraction of the price. 'couse it could just be sour grapes becuase i cant afford one....the tw*t.

The american corrado's came with a smooth bumper, but I would think getting hold of one would be more expensive than smoothing the one you have already, plus i'm not sure if the fittings are the same as on a valver. They also have the side repeaters in the bumper (as you can see from the pic) so you'd still have to do something to it to remove those! I dont think it'd be a massive job for a bodyshop, unfortunatly I cant recomend anywhere, but I hope that helps a bit!
-
I've always liked mk1's. my (at the moment very distant!) plan is to get hold of one in resonable nick, strip it out and stick a g60 in as a project/toy. like i say its a very distant plan, I have enough trouble keeping the C on the road cost wise to even consider taking on something else!
-
oh yeah i dont dispute that, but if there was 1000 originally, and theres bound to be a few that have gone to the big scrapyard in the sky over the years making them a 'little' rarer, its got to be a pretty good find?
-
sounds like a bit of a rare one then if theres only 1000 of them! I'll have to see if i can get a look at it and confirm its a genuine UK one from the chassis number...hmm...if only I had a few grand to take it off his hands and get it back into good condition! sounds like a real waste if you ask me!
-
I've just been talking to a guy who said hes got a mk1 golf campaign tucked away in his garage under some boxes, he recons its done all of 2000 miles in the last 10 years! I told him about the C campaign and how rare it was, but i wasnt sure if the golf was made in the same limited numbers, so whats the deal with them?
-
yeah? how odd! ii've asked loads of people locally and no-one knew! well there you go! where is it mate? and how much did they charge you?
