  1. well nothing now, I dont have one anymore :'( on my valver I had 16" borbets with the ventura setup which was bouncy, not low enough and generally a bit poo on the VR I had 17x8 RH's and Koni -60mm springs/shocks and the ride was a little bumpy but only what you'd expect from a lowered car, handled great! http://www.chris-hill.co.uk/photos/Corrado%20VR6%20-%20%20RIP%20/DSCF2067.jpg shows the ride height of the VR quite well at -60mm (massive image!)
  2. just to back up what others have said, I had the 'lovering kit' that euro car parts sell which is bilstein dampers and ventura shocks and it was bloody horrible for rebound and being crashy. IMO -60mm is the best looking ride height, wheels fit the arches just right and there's not too much scraping of the front spoiler.
  3. on a 1.3 mazda yes, on that thing, no! You'd think it would be reasonable to get up on as a named driver but its upwards of £500! Probably something to do with her being insured through 'sheilas wheels'.
  4. loads of money, no sense and no taste either!
  5. The constant whine from the mini's PAS probably send her slightly demented! I'd love to know how people get credit cards with high enough limits to cover the difference between list price on a new r32 and £8500
  6. ditto, my mum actually used to have a 'rat much like Dave's old one (although not as cool), silver one before that and two jettas! I learned to drive in a gold mk2 jetta :)
  7. haha no mate, my parents are rock solid! Its the (I assume) smaller engined version, 190ishBHP I think. I've told her a VR would be faster AND more stylish but she didnt want to listen :(
  8. I wouldn't mind if i could actually borrow it and drive it! I was telling her about having to rev it harder to get it to perform properly and by the look on her face I know its never going to see the high side of 3k
  9. Sometimes my mum really surprises me. I remember a comment she made about her old Austin Metro being 'plenty fast enough for me thank you!' and now look at her! and no I'm not insured on it (bugger)

    VR6 Into 16v.

you'll need to take into account the extra weight up front too, make sure your suspension is up to the job!
  11. Based on their 'no negligence' claim, if he'd been driving along side you and his tyre blew out on a nail in the road causing him to swerve into the side of you and totally wreck your car - they wouldn't pay out. Like Dinkus says, van windows don't just explode for no reason. If they're being difficult threaten them with the insurance ombudsman.
  12. sounds like they're fobbing you off there mate, insurance isn't just there to compensate for negligence!
  13. having driven a 16v with a knackered PAS belt (which I guess is simular to no PAS) its fine at speed but at anything below about 10mph its a nightmare. If theres a way you can get the PAS on there mate it'd be more than worth it.
  14. funnily enough he's been arrested for something that sounds quite similar to that... Cars looking superb Paul, looks so much better on those TT wheels. Nice photos too, that new camera's obviously working well!
  15. looking good, thats going to be one sturdy mofo when its finished! I expect they were grateful for the lack of roof, its got to help speed fitment up a little by not being quite so enclosed!
  16. ha! it all just reminds me of something from a national lampoon film
  17. haha i can't imagine throttling a dear is all that easy! did he start out with gentle pressure, trying to be humane, and end up with it in a wrestling style choke-hold while shouting profanities? my little list: Don't spend a fortune sorting you car out so its uber reliable, looks new and drives perfectly... then sell it Don't ever, ever, EVER park the car on any kind of incline without leaving it in gear 'just in case'. :(
  18. I'd hope its made from the bones of aztec children for that price! jeeesus! whats wrong with a £5 pot of turtle wax? ;)
  19. I don't think the VXR is inferior in any way to the corrado, its a great motor by all accounts and I'd certainly not slap someone who offered me a free one - however - the amount of time, effort and money this guy has put in to polishing up a brand new 'hot hatch' to what has to be concourse standards is obsessive and (i feel) unnecessary. Imagine this scenario - you're walking down the road and that astra passes you in one direction and a (standard) old escort RST given the same detailing treatment passes you in the other... which car do your eyes follow? Shiny astra - meh you see one of those every day /ignore/ Out of interest how much does that 'royal' wax stuff he's using cost? wax in a big glass case doesn't strike me as being affordable to your average bloke on the street!
  20. ooo driving gloves, stylish!
  21. I think its more impressive to get those kind of results from a 15 year old car regardless of marque, rather than a brand spanking new one. Anyway it was more the associated behaviour of not letting the dealer touch it that made me chuckle
  22. that a bit OTT on an astra, to say the least! It's very shiny, the paintwork's flawless, its had some stupidly expensive wax slapped on it and had the merry hell polished out of it, but I bet it only looks marginally better than the guy's down the street.
  23. you're asking the wrong people! TBH though at 50k miles theres not a great deal thats going to need doing. One of the major things is the timing chains but that's normally in relation to high miles, so no worries there. check the sunroof tilts AND slides, if the electrics are otherwise ok then it sounds like a good find. From the sounds of things the last owner didnt take very good care of the bodywork, but that's easy to sort in comparison to a dodgy engine. Keep in mind the guy probably doesn't want it hanging about his garage, its a hassle to take it to auction and they'll take a cut of the (usually next to nothing) he'll get for the car, so market value doesn't apply in this instance, you're doing him a favour! ask him how much he thinks he'll get at auction for it, then offer 20% less :D

    K&N Confusion

dead simple mate, I'm crap at that stuff normally but I managed it without injury to myself or the car (other than putting too many holes in!) once you have the lid of the airbox off, look at how the bottom attaches to the car - 3 or 4 rubber band type things, take those off, undo the circlip at the back and hey-presto, one detached airbox. Take it out, drill a few holes and re-attach!
