  1. I've driven the small diesel version as a works car and I was hugely impressed. OK the diesel lump isn't the performance option, but the rest of the package was fantastic. I found it rode better than the Corrado and had a nice steer. The brakes felt a bit woolly, but it was a high miles works car so that probably explained that. By all accounts, the media seem to love all versions and the ST version in Mountune guise seems a bargain. I'm a VW fan but, when compared to the Polo as an all round package, it's better in my eyes.
  2. Saying that, we must have the only good mk5. Had it from new on a 56 plate. Never had an advisory on an mot or anything go wrong apart from the infamous 2.0 tdi injectors going bad on us. Not a single rattle, squeak, pop or bang.
  3. That's under 2.5% which considering how much everything else seems to be rising and the number of cars on the road with free road tax, I think is very fair. If it was taxed like it was in Ireland, then I'd be selling up! Don't get me wrong, it's a lot of money to keep a relatively old and unpowerful car on the road and I don't feel like I get that much value for money.
  4. As much as I agree that watching that escort is far more interesting than an f1 car, the whole point of racing is to cover a certain distance faster than your opponent. Drifting isn't the fastest way anywhere and as a result you end up with cars cornering on rails and becoming processional. F1 has become a victim of its own ability. Maybe introducing random jumps and loop the loops may make it more entertaining. I personally love the strategy and engineering that makes the sport. But that's just me.
  5. Looks good! Dark blue a chance?

Technically yes, but how often do you adjust the ride height? Moving a thread or 2 from where the geo was last set wouldn't make a noticeable difference.

Much easier than mk4 but you will need geo done as the camber isn't fixed like on the mk4.
  8. Samco hoses are not of the best of quality. They're trading on their name and not their quality. Try Roose motorsports and don't use jubilee clips to hold it all together.
  9. Another vote for the mk4 handbrake.
  10. That compensator in the engine bay was pretty much the same style as what is fitted onto the rear suspension setup. It is designed to accommodate the weight shift back and forth. Having a fixed rate compensator in anything other than a track car with solid suspension is pretty dangerous. But, as you said you will be doing only hill climbs and track days, an inline bias valve that runs next to the driver would be the ideal solution if you are intending on ditching the rear mounted compensator. There would be no reason to run 2 lines to the rear then as you have no abs pump to modulate individual wheel speeds. Have you thought about going for the TEVES20 system and retaining ABS? That is 4 channel and eliminates the compensator and is an awful lot better than the stock Corrado system?
  11. Iridium magnets are what you want. Nice and strong!
  12. Real bbs versions are very heavy for what they are, I can only imagine what copies are like.
  13. These are just parts that age, both this Corrado and my last one had cracked arms. Squeaking clutch and spongy pedal are sometimes symptoms.
  14. The 24v seems to be quite good on the old motion potion. I'm no Colin mcrae, but I constantly get 32mpg over a tank.
  15. I think dark blue, dark grey and black will look great with cream an option for those crazy lunatics out there who can deal with the potential weekly cleaning!
  16. No, car dealers just assume most of their customers are thick as the proverbial.
  17. Looks great. I like the idea of the biscuit colour they are offering.
  18. If you're anywhere near Lincolnshire, then you're more than welcome to give mine a go to see if you like it?
  19. You'll need something stronger than araldite mate. Maybe chemical metal something on so that you can use something metal to adjust instead of something plastic.
  20. Where did you find the rear top mounts? Vw have gone obsolete and ebay hasn't been my friend!
  21. It's nice when all the paint matches eh!
