How to change blub in instrumental panel
greasegriff replied to nmahi's topic in [Archive] Wiki Submissions & Collaboration
Sorry to come back to this but how do you get at the back of the LCD's in a late VR6? The illumination of both of my LCD's in the instrument cluster has gone now and when I stripped back the dash, I couldn't get into the LCD units. I got as far as removing the outer trim, removing the clear plastic over the clocks and removing 3 x clock units (petrol, speedo and revs). I was then faced with the back of the instrument cluster which I tried to remove but got a bit stuck and bottled it, so I put it all back together none the wiser! Do I have to remove the whole instrument cluster to get at the back of it? Also, the 3 little bulbs that run along the top of the instruments to illuminate them - do they have to be got from VW? They don't seem to be standard dash bulbs - they look like they're soldered into their own little holder and twisted into place. Any help on any/all of the above points would be appreciated - I'm getting bored of my dark dash now! -
Think that's what did happen? My bad if not.

Gotta love it! If that same *c unt* was the guy that went into the back of you as you were checking your engine temp readout at a junction (for example!), everyone would be on here cursing how stupid he was for not reading the situation in front of him!! As you say though, a good opportunity to make some changes and legitimise the expense to the misses!

speedlines! do we all agree they are the best wheels?
greasegriff replied to marmite monster's topic in General Car Chat
On my Solitudes But these are my favourites I do like the Speedies, but for me, RX2's. Pain in the arse to clean and wondering if they're still gonna be there in the morning is an issue but they still make me warm inside when I see them! -
The misses spotted a 'green broken down one' on the A48 out of Cardiff this morning. Anyone on here? Crappy morning so I feel sorry for you breaking down!

All these mixed messages! Nah, it is on my list of things to sort out. The guy who owned it before me said it was a sensor but he hadn't bothered replacing it either. How much are ABS sensors to replace? -

Thank God for that! Bottom of the list then. -

cheers guys, i think ill just bluff it at the MOT... "nah mate, them rados never came with rear wipers" :D Mine's been MOT'd without the wiper on and they didn't say 'ought! Although, they didn't mention the piece of insulation tape over the ABS light either (still on the list of things to sort out!). -

I'm pretty sure it's not a requirement too. Lots of cars haven't got rear wipers. Don't quote me on it though! -

Cheers for the comments guys, I'm liking the way it's going so far. This is a pic of the Jetex. It was shiny until I started running up and down the motorway - all cacked up already now!! It's settling in well, even feels a bit more responsive but I may be dreaming on this note!! The Rx's have got Kumho 250/40/17's on. I did a fair bit of research into tyres before I went for these and they seem really good. I had all the suspension and wheels changed at the same time so I haven't really got a benchmark to test it to but it grips a hell of a lot better than the last set-up (i.e. - stock!). They rubbed when the suspension was first on but the garage slammed it - think they liked the look! I raised it up about 10mm and it's cured now. Can't wait to get the engine tinkered with although I'm not sure when that's going to be. Stealth are a good couple of hours from me and they'd need it left with them I think so not all that practical. Something will get sorted in the New Year no doubt!! Good luck with all your cars - it's really not that tricky once you get started. As I've said in Vornwends thread - most of my ideas came from his car and I'm very appreciative of his ideas!S -

Yeah. Click on the pictures and you'll see that one has a straight through pipe (on the right of the pic) and the other has a silencer unit. Don't think it'll make too much difference to be honest which is kind of the reason I went for the cheaper 2 box version. I'll get pics up tomorrow and if I'm feeling techie, maybe a vid! -

I wondered the very same thing before I got mine. One is a 2 box, the other a 3 box. From what I can work out, the 3 box is a little more restrictive and a little quieter. However, I went for the 2 box and it's not too loud for me. Shall have pics in the morning but I think it looks pretty good! -

Haven't updated this for a while so here goes! Just had the car back from the garage and had a few bits done : [strike:1he1tarl]1. Lowered on coilovers (thinking KW but open to suggestions)[/strike:1he1tarl] [strike:1he1tarl]2. New exhaust (again, would love some advice on this in the future)[/strike:1he1tarl] 3. Re-map [strike:1he1tarl]4. Induction kit (thinking BMC CDA)[/strike:1he1tarl] 5. [strike:1he1tarl]288[/strike:1he1tarl]/280 [strike:1he1tarl]brake upgrade[/strike:1he1tarl] [strike:1he1tarl]6. Clear side repeaters[/strike:1he1tarl] [strike:1he1tarl]7. De-wiper the rear[/strike:1he1tarl] [strike:1he1tarl]8. Uprated headlight loom[/strike:1he1tarl] [strike:1he1tarl]9. 16" alloys[/strike:1he1tarl] - although I went for 17's! 10. Moonroof 11. Red brake calipers 12.Red rear lights 13. DDI dials 14. A trip to Stealth for some extras! Quite like the sound of a turbo! [strike:1he1tarl]15. Sort out a couple of small patches of rust on the drivers side door and rear sill[/strike:1he1tarl] A silly women went into me in the supermarket carpark and dented a wing so with 'betterment' from the insurance, I got a few small patches of rust sorted out. Looking almost pristine now although a bonnet re-spray wouldn't go amiss! Maybe when she's a second car and not a daily this will get done. Also got my 2 box Jetex fitted. Really pleased with it. Looks lovely and shiney and doesn't sound chavvy in the slightest. The garage commented that they thought it was very good quality too which is always reassuring. Few more bits to do but for now I'm happy. I've got Schimmel 263's to go in in the near future but still wondering if I should get tappets replaced as a matter of course when this is done or if I should leave alone? Once they're in, I shall be making a trip to Stealth for a rolling road re-map then jobs a good un! As in the above replies, I'm now considering a Schrick too - any comments from people who've had/got one would be welcome!! Pics to come in the morning as long as the biblical rains subside! -
Just had my 2 box Jetex fitted and have to say I'm impressed. Not too loud (almost stock really) and the garage that fitted it said they were really impressed with the fit and quality. Got charged 2 hours labour (£80) to fit it. Love the looks too - pics when the sun is out!!
-
Great thread at perfect timing!! I've got 263's to be fitted and was wondering exactly the same thing re : a re-map. Shall press on and get them fitted I think. What's the verdict on just replacing the tappets and springs because it's a good time to do it then? Don't think mine need to be replaced (just done 100,000 but feels fine and no nasty sounds) but seeing as it'll be cracked open would it be sensible to replace them??

Loads and LOADS of fake notes going round the area I work at the moment. I went and bought a second hand motorbike from a guy last year. Withdrew £4000 in cash directly from the bank, turns out £80 was forged notes when the guy went to pay it in. Thankfully the guy just let it go and trusted that I wasn't scamming him but just beware - you can easily be fleeced with cash. Walk away I would, unless he can give you a secure bank transfer.

THE CORRADO FORUM INSURANCE SCHEME WITH CHRIS KNOTT
greasegriff replied to ChrisKnottIns's topic in Chris Knott Insurance
Sent my application, as above, off yesterday but not had a reply yet? Does that mean my renewal from my current insurer is unbeatable?! To be fair, it was £465 when I got it through the post, rang them up to tell them it was higher than last year, so they knocked £100 off! Definitely pays to ring your insurer and be a bit cheeky! -
Easy. See below, fork out the readies and be ready to go! Loads of people have used these and all rate them highly. I'm one of them! Couple with some Phillips Extreme bulbs, they give great results. http://the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=74542#p867710

http://www.f1leisure.co.uk They were excellent, fair play. Gave us a good discount for hiring 3 cars and when the F430 broke 1 mile out of the garage (throttle release valve jammed sending the engine into a 10,000RPM crescendo!) they gave my best man an SL55 AMG to keep him occupied, then delivered the F430 to us once it was fixed. Excellent service. There are some spectacular views up there and with a gaggle of Corrado's (? collective?!) it would be great fun! -

My best man was going to have a Vanquish but the gear box went kapput the day before we were hiring them so he had to have the F430 instead! Bummer! The Aston is classier probably but I didn't care - Lambo's are super-cool! 8) 8) Got married down in Swansea then drove up to Brecon for the reception (up the A4067 - go drive it from Brecon to Swansea if you get a chance, it's an epic road!). -
Well what a week-end! The main thing (as my new wife may well read this!) was of course our wedding - what a fantastic day! For all you singletons out there I would recommend trying it out!! If you are going to give it a bash, consider doing what we did for transport.... Lamborghini Gallardo for me, Ferrari F430 for my best man and a Ferrari 360 for my bro!! We hired them for the week-end, had a blast from Cardiff up to Brecon, down to Swansea and then back. The roads were perfect for it, the weather was fantastic and I had my beautiful bride by my side!! Still haven't stopped smiling!

Looked into it only last week. Can't remember the exact figure but a new wing from the dealer for my '95 VR was coming in at around the £275 mark incl. VAT. Personally, I reckon that's OK. Gotta get it painted on top of that of course.
