A crank has 2 different sets of bearing shells, big ends - these go inside the con rods wrapping around the crank journals, main bearings - these wrap around the centre part of the crank and are held against the block by the main bearing caps.

The rad fixing points are different for 6 and 4 cylinder cars

Mine did the same before I swapped the pump for a used one. Then the pedal sensor gave trouble, swapped that too and all was good for 6 months - the car is now sorned. Engine bay heat cause the PCBs to expand a little making the dry soldered joints to remake there contact for a while?

Is it a case where you'll feel happier to stand down from CCGB if you also sell the car? If CCGB folds its not because of anything you've done or not done, its because times have changed since its inception. Stand down, keep the car and enjoy it. With a £2K paint job will it be a £7K car?

Well I find its always better to reason with people face to face in a calm rather than "Shout my head off" I bought my mk4 Golf estate at auction without any history at 6 / 7 years old. NSF wing was rusting at the 12 0clock position, I bought a used one in the correct colour and when I swapped it the rust had come through the panel from the inside out (common issue for the last 20 years on VWs) - I pushed my finger straight through it. These cars are part galvanised, the point I'm making is that the wing could have rusted without their intervention? By all means take it back and try for a resolution (maybe something else needs a touch up and you can agree a deal whilst the paint is mixed and in the gun etc). FWIW I don't think you get a life times warranty on body work on a 25 year old car? Good luck with it :)

Have you tried the owner to see if he's willing to sell it back?

Always tap the Allen key into the bottom of the bolt hole before trying to undo the bolt.

It is, if you're at home when you realise you've left your lights on again! But at 7am after a 12 hour night shift the thought of a couple of hours wait for the RAC or a shove by a few work comrades I'd go for the bump start every time.

Have you never left a car in gear and turned the key? Was the result smooth movement or a lunge towards the car / wall in front?

Specialist Garage in Midlands? & Potential Engine Conversion help.
Dox replied to Samwain's topic in Engine Bay
You don't give any details of what the conversion was? £4500 @ £50 per hour is 90 hours. So if it's drive in, drive out big power conversion where everything needs stripping / updating / cleaning etc then there's loom work, fabrication, mapping and snagging etc that's based on £50 per hour which is cheap / fitted in around other jobs as and when we can etc At the end of the day Vince runs a business built on reputation and has done for nearly 20 years, how many others can say that? -

I'd start by charging the battery over night, 2 or 3 weeks of sitting around is enough to drain the battery to the point of a non start. If you do end up getting an auto electrician he'll thank you for giving him a good start for his fault finding mission

Why have they not developed a vr4? (Or a vr8?) A 4 cylinder that takes up the room for 3 would allow room for a turbo even in a polo sized car. Has anyone built a Corrado with an inline audi 5 cylinder with turbo?

I'd take the inner door panel off and retrieve the bits from the bottom of the door. The barrel and tumblers looks complete to me so maybe the C clip has broken?

One for the techies . Help please vagcom or ross tech ?
Dox replied to robrado974's topic in General Car Chat
Who scanned the fault code in the first place? Do they have a printed copy or the codes on their computer system? I suspect if you had the correct passwords etc you could access previous codes with dealer spec equipment or maybe the importers kit? Eg if they had a warranty claim for a seized engine and the customr continued to drive the car ignoring the lights and alarms then reset the codes before declaring "the engine just died etc" they could refuse to pay out. I doubt you as a customer could access previous history though -
A fixed height suspension kit is just that, the garage can do nothing to correct the side to side differences in ride height. The driver side front is around 75kg heavier than the passenger side (engine drivers side, gearbox passenger side) - so if your car was LHD which the majority are with the driver on board you have an almost perfect balance side to side
-
The correct way to measure ride height is from the centre of the wheel to the top of the arch, that way wheel size or tyre size has no influence on the result.

Isn't the MK2 caddy based on the Skoda Favourite? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Volkswagen-Caddy-Pickup-MK2-1-9D-/182269256792?hash=item2a70182458:g:whsAAOSwFdtXzaj8

Its an auction, not a concours event. Some will see the appeal of buying a dirty car and then posting before and after pics on various forums etc Hence "Barn Find" cars covered in poop making more than clean cars. It will be interesting to see what it makes. I'll say £10.5K due to the UKs obsession with low mileage / low number of owners / unmolested cars
