288s and 280s both have 54mm pistons, so if both are working as intended the pedal travel should be exactly the same. The 288s have a larger pad area and a wider swept area compared to 280s

VR6 ABV crank position sensor question - now fuel pressure issue
Dox replied to fendervg's topic in Engine Bay
The advantaged is that you can move the spanner down the hex giving an infinitely adjustable "extension". Once you've cracked them off half a turn or so they turn freely, my advice is to remove them with your fingers as the hex becomes wedged against the rad etc as the bolts turn out. -

Great news, do you have a link to the NRV please :) It could be there's not enough power going to the pump when cranking due to voltage drop in the wiring? You turn the ignition key, the pump primes and pressures up the fuel rail, you turn the key to crank and the pressure in the rail is enough to fire the engine over? I notice sometimes my car fires into life just as I give up cranking, did you notice similar? Great result anyway :) -
Nothing new, its been going on for years and its why remapping a standard car makes it drive better

With "Where there's blame there's a claim" culture, could you image what would happen should there be an issue with one of the cars in the next few years after selling one on? They have to be mega careful what they do and let go, hence brand new parts fitted and no mention of them in the totting up.

They make a loss on every car they do. They get paid royalties for every showing on tv They sell merchandise dvds, t shirts, mugs etc Mike Brewer posted on facebook over the weekend (in a statement about haters and trolls) he employs 34 people and raises millions for various charities all on the back of tv, I think they're doing OK?

It was for noise suppression for radio reception, ie MW / LW I believe.

If you want a cat d / c project join copart and pay £1k for one where you can view the damage. He's stuck a used wing on and who knows what damage there is to suspension and even chasis. The best should sell for good money, the worst should be priced accordingly.

It must be a huge relief, really pleased for you :)

You just agree not to go ahead with the sale and you get your fees back.
-
It's going to be resisted time and time again, every one here knows how hard it can be to sell a decent car never mind that P.O.S. Relatives or friends are running it up for him
-
Fingers crossed for a good result :) It will be a nerve wracking time no doubt after all the time effort and money spent

Has it got new cams? If so the manufacturers usually recommend not idling but holding 2K rpm for 20 mins. What oil are you using?
-
Don't forget OE cats contain precious metals and recycling centre will pay you for them. Pre 92 don't need a cat test
-
I suspect it will drop a little more over the next 1k miles or so

Normally smoking on over run (throttle closed and high vacuum) is valve guide or there seals (oil is sucked past the guides and there seals), what make seals did you fit?
-
Search for VR6 BRM (Brian Rickets Motorsport or Berrington rd Motor services as they became known), or Scotts VR6. Both offered big bore conversions when they were current models, from memory 100cc added 6bhp and 10 flbs or so. I have Wiseco 3l pistons, but I believe they are available from JE and Wossner too

Did you fit the refurbed injectors too or just the non return valve? It might be an idea to check the connections at the fuel rail for leaks once fitted? -
This is true, but you will make the car more desirable and increase its value to some people with the kit fitted when it comes to sell. The storm will slowly creep up in value, a new diesel golf or similar will go down in value. Horses for courses on a cost front, its more of a concern that most installs look a little untidy?
