perhaps said friend was thinking that the bores are ovalised - which means it will burn oil & is a definite 'stay away' unless you want to replace the block

valves & rods knocking!? how can he tell that? normally with a VR if there are clunky or odd sounds coming from the engine block it is likely to be tensioners & chains have a look at the forum wiki for the buying guide from my experience I would specifically check: the running gear (front wishbone bushes, tie rod ends, rear beam bushes etc), also cv boots, steering rack boots etc, ignition barrel can be sloppy if it is on its way out, all electrics including wing mirrors & sun roof tilt/slide & spoiler manual raise button under the dash TBH m8 for the money I would hope you could find an example where the seller is not potentially saying the engine is knackered or on its way

ha brilliant m8 lol oh the days :D -
hi m8 if you look at my build thread on page 1 it has pics of my valver which has a Kamei skirt kit on all round http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?t=44751 unfortunately Kamei no longer produce the kits. i know this because when i brought the valver back recently someone had removed the front skirt & ive been trying to replace it to say the items are rare is a massive understatement! i found a link to a similar kit made by a US company, freedom design IIRC, but the posts were from 2009 or something & even then the kits were extremely expensive. there are some bulky & rather unsightly kits still available but they tend to be from Rieger & deform the natural shape of the rado

duplicate post from my members gallery so as to offer feedback on exhausts......it is a Longlife 2.5" full stainless system (from downpipe back) with sport cat OK then video time again please forgive poor audio & my cabin's rattles In the first video I tried to let it run up the rev's in each gear so as you can hear how the sound builds & drops as you go up the gears. I then tried to capture the burbles as you slow down & down change but it is difficult to hear on headphones. I also then tried to capture how it sounds when you have accelerated in 2nd gear, then let off the fast pedal & let the engine slow the revs down unfortunately the audio doesn't capture the way the sound travels in the cabin; from exhaust at the rear until around 3.5-4K revs & then moves to the front as the BMC / engine sounds take control https://youtu.be/ypoqtPkLXks In the 2nd video I wanted to try to show you how when accelerating normally & at usual cruising speeds the exhaust gives a nice grunty build up in sound, but not overly loud, & then quietens right back down. FYI just before I hit the bumpy dropped section of road I am already in 5th gear travelling around 35mph ish & you can barely hear the exhaust https://youtu.be/ICpGtbPmRYM sorry there are no pics yet, it was a very busy weekend & I really need to get the autosol on the exhaust before taking any lol

thanks chuggs! I was beginning to feel unloved here as they had been up for an hour & not one comment :( perhaps I need to put 'wayne' in the thread title to get more views & comments ;) PMSL wayne, only joking m8! :) glad you liked them chuggs. I must say I really am very happy with it indeed & hopefully the videos showed how it can be a very pleasant, low volume sound when cruising but gives a cracking build of noise when asked to :D definitely a wise move to get the suspension & height sorted prior to the exhaust m8 as Paul at Longlife in Birmingham said it was quite a challenge fabricating it due to my ride height I will try & give the exhaust a polish on the coming weekend or an evening & then post pics of it all

ha you mentioned the golden '4WD'!! which naturally means it should be turbo'd too ;) how I would love something like this in the for sale section http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?t=90441 & a blackberry too :D

hasan - have you double checked the remote wire out of the sub goes to the correct one on the head unit? also, if you have, it is worth checking the wire itself as I found that I had to replace my remote wire recently as it had a break in it somewhere

ha ha ha hope you have a 10K budget then lol & yes beer tokens (well, cider or rum) gratefully accepted :D

nice one Jim I knew id missed this episode but then after the first couple I couldn't be bothered to watch any more pity it was a blink & you will miss it kinda coverage though :(
-
possibly wayne - but I bet you will more than likely have to carry out many of the jobs on that as you did this ;) lol

finally ive managed to get a couple of videos, well the gf did the recording from passenger seat unfortunately they are only from an iphone so am unsure of sound quality I will try & upload them to PC today & then post please forgive the cabin squeaks, I really need to remove & refit all the rear trim after fitting the KW's a long time ago

its from rayne automotive - he is in the supplier section

excellent news, thank you for the update. looking forward to seeing the results

I doubt a remap would bring many ponies at all unless you perform some other mod's & as said in the thread the only way to see massive power increases is forced induction you may be a lucky one & have a standard VR that outputs slightly more than the 190bhp book stats but they are rare IIRC the main benefit of having a stealth map on a standard VR is the way the vince can get the bhp & torque curves much smoother than factory, thus creating a slightly better feel underfoot. if you want more power you have to make changes - using myself as an example I got a 10% power increase by installing 263 cams (giving a higher lift than standard cam & thus allowing for an increase in fuel mix to enter the chamber), a BMC air filter (increasing the amount of air getting into the fuel mix & thus creating a bigger bang) & then a remap so as to take advantage of the increases. on my VR that took it up to 209.8 bhp & I can say that it is definitely noticeable under foot :D my gf has a storm & it is quite hard to put into the right words but there is certainly a difference between the two hope that helps m8

thanks for the reminder chugs - i must do the exhaust videos this weeknd

no problem wayne. I thought that if I explained it in full then it would help you understand take your time when fitting the loom. it is not a difficult job but worth routing the cable as best as possible. this looks much easier when you take the front grille out. also, be careful if using cable ties to secure it along the route - don't want them to tight so that the loom rubs on any sharp edges
-
that really is nice seats look near new GLWS!!
-
wayne - in all honesty if you DONT put an uprated loom on the car then your shiny new lights & a lens clean will do, well bugger all really. in case you were unaware the issue with the standard headlights is due to the way it is wired by VW through the loom. such that when you click the headlight switch on your dash the voltage travels all the way up the standard loom from the battery to the headlight dash switch & then all the way back down to the light. this itself causes a drop in voltage when the current finally hits the lights, thus causing the dim candle light performance. what an uprated loom does is essentially provide a shorter path for the current from battery to headlight & as such the lights receive a healthy voltage from which they can perform well i have had an uprated loom on my VR for 4+ years & have only had 1 issue which was due to a relay failing in the uprated loom, which i changed & fixed the issue. FYI i have a 3 relay loom which KUR2Y used to provide on here. he used 3 relays for redundancy so as if one fails you still retain side lights, a feature i am unsure is present on a 2 relay loom. i have also installed one on the gf's storm about 2 years ago with no issue & i plan to put one on my valver when it finally gets its MOT & is back on the road (which is hopefully this week) i believe you would only get 'gremlins' from an uprated loom if care is not taken when installing it. for example if it is rubbing on something & could chafe i should also add that with a standard setup, IE factory loom & factory headlight switch, it is possible for the switch to wear out & break (as the plastic rocker fails) or worse there have been cases of the switches shorting due to the heat from the internal bulb & causing a dash fire. (i believe this is what MZpog was referring to) the latter is a reason to buy one of the group buy headlight switches as they have LED's in them rather than a bulb an uprated loom with better bulbs is £ for £ one of the best upgrades you can do ;)

IIRC it is the way they sit in the cluster. i think if you fit an early lense to a late car they sit proud. ive checked vw heritage & they specify 'early' lenses but dont have any 'late' lenses advertised https://www.vwheritage.com/shop/corrado/electrical/lighting-headlights-spotlights/ im pretty sure Anna at heritage would have listed them as universal if they were as she looks at items very closely when investigating if heritage can supply them or not a quick call to them could clarify
-
hello there - dont worry about asking questions, at least you had a good search prior ive not looked into sourcing some but i thought there were slight differences in the fog lenses between early & late models
