    Pre-mot

Ok so its that time of year again and the C's mot is due sometime in December (i think its the first week but i can't really remember...) anywho after the car being off the road for about 2 years before i bought it and rebuilt the head im surprised it didnt fail on more the first time around. Anyway after sorting out a few issues i was left with some advisories: - N/S/R inner road wheel slightly damaged - N/S/F inner road wheel slightly damaged - O/S/F inner road wheel slightly damaged - N/S tyre close to legal limit - radiator subframe corroded - rear disc grooves rusted - parking brake efficiency only just passed minimum requirements (minimum is 16% i got 16.5%?!) I also plan on replacing my 9A cams with some KR ones while its off the road, and respraying my slam panel :) The first few advisories were easy to do, i bought some new alloys on ebay which had brand new tyres and weren't damaged and that was completed in February. The radiator subframe was proving harder to do but thanks to __Andy__ and his offer of his unneeded subframe for free it was obvious what i needed to do. So after travelling around 200m round trip we'd picked the subframe up and I started to collect other parts. I thought the best way to sort out the handbrake issue was to do the MK4 upgrade. After trawling ebay i found a pair for £32 however as soon as they'd arrived I found that one of the seals had a hole in it so after spending another £30ish on a BiggRed seal kit the calipers were ready to put back onto the car. Also had to get the good ridge conversion kit, £31 on the 'bay. Rusty discs = replace them, Euro wanted £84 for a pair of standard solid discs....TPS only wanted £36 so naturally i went with those, obviously i also bought replacement bearing kits for around £20. I plan on reusing the ABS sensor ring as long as I can remove it without braking it.... Calipers as i bought them: ETKA Corrado.pdf2010-11-05 15.31.06.jpg[/attachment:n3lh4d47] Reconditioned and painted calipers, much better :) stromlaufplan_gamma4.pdf2010-11-12 15.38.46.jpg[/attachment:n3lh4d47] Now on to the subframe...I hadnt realised how bad it was till i started to take the front end off, im surprised it wasn't a fail, it was pretty bad! Big hole! Corrado92.pdfIMG_7944.JPG[/attachment:n3lh4d47] passat climatronic wiring diags.pdfIMG_7949.JPG[/attachment:n3lh4d47] (my dad has just had a new driveway, it was finished and sealed 2 days before i started working on the car...its now dirty...oh well! ) In the meantime i'd already purchased new bolts, bushes and front engine mount and hammerited Andys old subframe: - New bolts and bushes £36 from TPS - New mount £26 fron GSF Much better, thanks __Andy__ you saved me a lot of money (subframe over £200 brand new from VW!!) The only thing left to do is cut 2 holes for the PAS cooling pipe climatronic wiring-Golf from May 01.pdfIMG_7918.JPG[/attachment:n3lh4d47] AS is the way with most corrados...as soon as you fix one problem you find a lot more...I also removed plenty of things that needed hammeriting and cleaning - horn doesnt work - CV joint needed replacing (hopefully only one side, not sure which one yet) Thankfully i've got a pair of driveshafts with CV joints on them, not sure how good they are, will replace both and if it is still knocking will replace the original one and put it back on - O/S steering boot has split - distributor is leaking oil - random vibrating noise under the car, i think its a loose heat shield.. and the biggest problem - O/S suspension spring has snapped in half  I have no idea how this happened, or when, or how long i've been driving on it, the car has been making a strange noise so im going to assume it was this, as the wheel sits inside the arch you cant see the springs whilst the car is sitting, it wasn't until i had it up on axle stands that i noticed it. Again luckily i've got a set of standard shocks/springs that i can put on the front to see it through the mot and whilst i look for some more, does anyone have any for sale? 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdf2010-11-17 17.11.11.jpg[/attachment:n3lh4d47] 2010-11-17 17.11.00.jpg[/attachment:n3lh4d47] Corrado = empty pockets *sigh* I wouldnt do it any other way though
  2. here you go! (try the search, ive uploaded it a few times before but happy to post it again :) ) Early Wiring diagram: Corrado92.pdf[/attachment:92c6unjk] Jay
  3. yeah i feel the same, its only been altered slightly to improve the look, ill upload a picture of a night shot, i might have to change my light set up though as its getting difficult to read them! haha
  4. What illumination set up have you got on the dials? I'd changed mine and put blue LEDs to go with the rest of the colour in the car but it doesnt shine very well on the rest of the colours, in fact the blue isnt really bright enough. Are you still running the stock green illumination or something else? UV would work really well with the print out if i left the colours white...
  5. What is the easist way of determining which side cv joint is knackered? I can hear a knocking when I turn the steering slowly...shes coming off the road today for some pre-mot work so should do that too...any suggestions would be appreciated :) CFC
  6. i re did my dial faces ages ago, did the modifying in illustrator, like you said takes ages to scan and alter it to get it to be accurate but luckily i had a spare set to use. I printed it onto photo paper to get a nice matte effect, cutting it out wasn't too bad as i made a template in card from the dials and used it to cut around. This is what mine look like, or at least this is the print out: Gauges2.jpg[/attachment:30o891kd] Out of curiousity why have you got 2 different accounts?
  7. Mines called Valerie the valver
  8. the filter can give different effects depending how it sits infront of the display, you can turn it around to give slightly lighter er lights  mine is red and black like that in the link but it'll never be a perfect black as the filter is not opaque. Did you prise the existing filter off of the LCD or did you try and use a different filter from somewhere else?
  9. Congrats on getting it back, sorry to hear about the state though, why take bulbs?! Its beyond me why someone would do something like this... I've got a few bits floating around somewhere so once your list is up ill see if ive got anything that you can have
  10. That sucks man, i live in milton keynes and will keep an eye out for you, where about was it stolen from?
  11. perhaps ill use a lot of lube....
  12. warned eh, i think a bit of brute force and a hammer might do the job lol but thats for the heads up! £37.60 for 4 rubber mounts and 11 bolts...(including engine mount bolts)! not going to order the front engine mount from TPS though....over £100!! think ill get it from GSF only £25!
  13. haha no i did wonder when you said that!
  14. Edit: found it, part number is 191 199 233 (perhaps you thought i was talking about something different) Part 3 was the bit i needed (circled in red) I should probably replace the bolts too while im at it... 050000.png[/attachment:q1jui211] The part number you specified was for the actual radiator rubber mounts but thanks for putting that up as they only cost pennies and might as well replace them too!
  15. Does anyone have the part numbers for the 4 rubber bushes on the radiator subframe? Im going to assume they can be replaced as they are accessible when the subframe is removed. I've had a look on ETKA and cannot find anything.... Many Thanks Jay
  16. they are attached on with a round disk type fixings  . they rust and break off leaving a rattly heat shield. easy and cheap fix. Cool thanks mate, i thought it would be something like that, i'll give it a look tomorrow :salute:
  17. Hey sorry to hear what has happened, i know how bad i felt when some drunk driver (who was only 17 and didnt actually have a license) stole his mums volvo, went for a joy ride, lost control and wrote of my first car (renault 19). Luckily i wasn't in it, he hit my car so hard that it was pushed up the curb and bent the street lamp! He then continued going and took the civic out behind mine! Woke up to a police note on my car saying it was involved in an accident and not much of it remaining, i was devastated. I can't imagine how you're feeling but I bet its on par with that. Good luck getting it sorted, unfortunately i couldn't claim as he wasn't insured...clearly... 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfHPIM0715.jpg[/attachment:29rcbz5f] HPIM0721.jpg[/attachment:29rcbz5f] For reference my 19 was inline with the civic before the volvo hit me... I know its not the same but I thought it might make you feel better
  18. Fitted a FK badgeless grill and found that ive got a rattling noise coming from underneath the car...ive had a quick look and all the exhaust mounts are fine, are there any heat shields under there and do they come off as a course of age/usage etc? If so, are they easy enough to put back on?
  19. L9** BPH black VR outside Comet in MK. Parked up in my Valver 1 car away from you but wasn't around long..
  20. Is it losing water? A common sign of a matrix problem or water leak is no hot air (as theres no water running through the matrix)
  21. Found that my passengers carpet was soaked...again, removed door cards and resealed the membrane...fingers crossed its ok now. While the doorcards were off i fitted the new windows rollers, havent tested them yet for rattles... Also did a DIY heated seats mod :D works brilliantly (i've got black fabric seats), although the base gets warmer than the upright, thinks that's got something to do with the seats rather than the heating pad. Passengers side is done and in, just got to do the drivers now. Works on a 2 way rocker switch HIGH - OFF - LOW, however I am looking for one that i can fit that looks VAGish to suit the rest of the interior, preferably one that lights up so it can match my other switches if anyone has any ideas?... I did start to document it but it takes quite a bit of modding the pad to get it to fit properly and i did that without taking photos so when i do the drivers I will take some more photos and do a write up for anyone interested
  22. Fitted a blue lighter surround, suits the colours much better :D also fitted an extra lighter inside the passengers tray compartment (not that i smoke just find that its easier to have things running from there out of the way) IMG_7818.JPG[/attachment:2qny51tw]
  23. Mine fit really easily, well, you have to flex the deflector slightly to fit it into the window area but the plastic holds out well. the window wont sit any lower as the deflector doesn't actually sit on top of the window, as the window closes it sits snugly against the window and the rubber in the frame (however it is thick enough not to fall out when its in). When the window is closed there's no way of them coming out/off due to the above snug fit
