Merry Christmas all :)

I took the Corrado on the track once. Loved it. Must do it again in summer.

...and this is one of the reasons I own a VR6 again. My first experience of them was in a Golf VR6 with a standard exhaust (the car was about 3 years old). I was driving it back from the dealer and I went through a tunnel on a hot summers day with the roof and windows open. I really didn't know much abou the VR6 at the time and I came out the other side of the tunnel exexpectedly grinning from ear to ear.

Thanks. Yes I have done a lot of research into them and found most allegedly from 1969 aren't... wrong bezel, not a transition back, wrong serial number range, etc. I may consider a much newer model but I can't afford either yet.

Whoah! This is exactly my plan when funds allow. I was born on 21st July 1969 and my mum was one of the few people in the western world who missed the landing... because I was being born. So my plan is to get a 1969 Speedmaster.

My daily car is a mk6 GTI. I wouldn't like to only have the Corrado.. But I like the contrast between something modern and easy to drive and then being able to get into an older car with the better and more raw feel.

I went to collect something from someones house that I bought from an advert. He helped me carry it to the car and commented "Oh what a cool car". I guess he was in his mid to late twenties so not much older than the car itself.

It might be worth a call to VW to see if it was originally registered as a Storm. I don't know if they have records that go back that far but it's worth a try.

5 mins down the road from me. If I'd known it was on then I'd have planned to turn up. But sadly not able to tomorrow. -

When I'm in my garage gym I often watch/listen to various Ted Talks on YouTube. They are short talks on very diverse factual matters. Some are quite insightful. Last night I learned how the brain gets rid of its waste protein and one reason why you sleep. -
Nice.

^^ I was going to say this. ^^ But I'd be happy for this :D

I've watched this advert a few times and it is a brilliant advert. But it really jars me when Sainsbury's appears at the end. It is so prominent that it shakes me out of my thoughtfulness and brings home a for-profit organisation. I think that if it had been labelled as a Royal British Legion advert and sponsored by Sainsbury's then I would have received it much better. Every time I read about this story I find it truly moving. But it gives me immense pride and hope that the average person can come together for a few hours and forget differences. It is extremely poignent that, ultimately, British and German soldiers were just the same. Young. Scared. Courageous. I used to work for a very large British bank. In their headquarters is a wall with the name of every soldier who worked for the company who was killed in the war (unfortunately I can't recall whether it was for ww1, 2 or both). Apparently it has been moved at least once as the HQ moved. It was quite emotional seeing that. It gave a real sense of history. To this day Silent Night in German sends wonderful chills down my spine because of this story. When I was in primary school in the early 70's I remember telling my friends that I was going to Germany for a holiday (my father, in the police, was part of a police exchange programme - in hindsight it may have been designed to build bridges between our countries) and there was genuine ill feeling from the childrens parents. Mind you it was only 30 years since the end of WW2. So much has changed in Europe and young people today probably have no idea just how much it has.

What, standing up? -
B****y hell I've just checked and my old 16v is still taxed so must be on the road somewhere :D EDIT: And it was actually a 1990.
-
Thanks but unfortunately not. It will go on one day.

I've still not used my group buy new original VR6 steering wheel yet. It's still sitting in the box. I don't have the heart to put in on as it won't be new and unused after that. Doh! Do any of the other buyers feel the same and still have it boxed?

I dearly miss my almost imaculate 1989 big bumper Atlas Grey 16v. I had it back in the mid 90's and it was my first really nice car. It must have been one of the first big bumpers. G415 BLT or something very similar (I always remember the Bacon Lettuce Tomato jokes from my brother). The 16v had power steering, electric front windows and the bee sting aerial of course. I think the small bumper cars had slightly different doors with different quarter lights and wing mirror placement - and small bumpers. I'd have another tomorrow, particularly a G60.

Corrado cutting out at junctions - checklist of possible cures?
Portent replied to DPS's topic in Engine Bay
Also check the battery clamps aren't loose. When I first got mine it cut out at junctions as the negative cable was loose. -
This. Please do this :D

Can you afford to buy the M3 and then leave it 6 months before selling either the Corrado or the MTB? That would probably help the decision.
-
My kids still don't forgive me for selling the mk4 Golf we had for 8 years. Sadly I'd say you probably won't use the Corrado once you have an M3. So...
-
Bentley, used, for around £45ish.Far better than a Haynes anyway.
-
Sorry to hear about your job. Hope you find something soon.

Isn't that 20 years away?
