This problem with the subframes seem to be getting common, Im in the process of replacing everything on the front end of mine at the moment and just had a good look at my subframe and it looks a bit sad with loads of surface rust around the welds  hope mine holds out and doesn`t give way at high speed..

Sorry to hear this story Andy, You seem like a decent guy, You bought the BBS split rims of me if you can remember! I think sometimes you just have to say what you feel instead of keeping it under your hat! Tell this woman what your Dad told you and get it out of your system once and for all, You Will feel better im sure then you will be able to concentrate on your own family and try and put this behind you, hope things turn out ok for you mate! Good luck...

steveo29 Thanks, sussed the compensator bit, The passenger side bled fine with the gunson pressure bleeder but the drivers side wasn`t gonna play ball :? had to get the missus in the car (Only time she`s allowed in the drivers side) to manually bleed it! After an hour or so  and some swearing it slowly started to seep through but i dont think its right! Put the wheels back on and turned it around back in the garage to start stripping the front down as its sorn so can`t really test it just yet...

Ive Just finished the Overhaul of the rear Axle bushes And brake refurb and am in the process of putting it all back together :D So whats the best way to bleed the rear calipers, Ive adjusted the piston out as far as not to bind on the discs, Would i be better of dropping the car back on its wheels because of the compensator, and should i use an easybleed kit or just the old method of someone sat in the car pushing the pedal, and what fluid, Dot4 or should i use 5.1? Cheers

Wouldnt let my wife drive my Corrado or my S3! She wouldnt even ask  She has her own car A swb mitsubishi shogun and treats it like a dog, Doesn`t check Oil,Water, washer fluid (drives it without) She once drove ten miles in the rain after the wiper fell off and scratched all the screen  ! Wouldnt let her drive a Dumper.

Cheers Guys! Bought the rewind tool from halfords £19.99, You cant do this job properly without this tool and believe me what an ar***ole of a job to do the stupid dust seal over the piston is a nightmare to replace Lost my temper and tipped a tin of brake fluid everywhere  Should of just bought some new calipers instead of being a tite ars! and to top it of after taking my time to repaint the calipers with black engine enamel i decided to laquer them and it only stripped all the paint off them!! And my new discs never turned up after them promising to deliver them today AARRGHHH RANT Over
-
Does anyone know how to remove the pistons out of the rear calipers on a 16v and the front G60 ones as iv`e bought some repair kits and im dreading stripping them  Any Help would be appreciated :)
-
Mic_vr dont worry about the rear bushes too much! ive managed to do mine pretty easily, once youve got the rear axle down the bushes came out with some heavy persuasion from an old socket with a lot of plus gas and a BIG lump hammer :) Most small garages should be able to hash something together to press them in, My brother works for mercedes and he used a couple of old pullers and made something up and they went in no probs, Im in the process of doing all the bushes and all the brakes! It can become a bit costly when you need discs all round and caliper repair kits and so on and on but just think how much you are saving by doing it yourself and the big smile when you drive it and its all nice and tight, And at least you will do it properly which in my experiance is more than most garages do these days good luck mate :)

Ive just ordered some G60 Grooved front and rear discs from a Firm called CRN off ebay you can have them zinc coated in black gold or silver, £133.00 Delivered for a full set which is cheap! My mate who owns an Evo recomended these to me as a lot of the Evo lads of the MLR forum are buying them and are really pleased, One lad on there says they have taken everything he`s thrown at them  ! So if there good enough for a 320 bhp evo there good enough for my Corrado, maybe someone can sort this link out for me as im useless as they may of some interest for some of you http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-GOLF-CORRADO-G ... Can anybody tell me if the caliper carriers are the same on the mk3 golf gti as the VR6 and G60 280mm setup? Are the part numbers the same?
-
You Cheat youve done a bit of painting there  Looks good
-
While the rear Axle is off i was wondering if there is anything i can tidy up under the arches with as they are starting to look a bit dirty! I was thinking some sort of paint but has anyone else got any ideas :)
-
Ok So its G60 or VR6 Carriers and callipers and then 280 mm discs ! But not 288 cos they dont do them in four stud :) Ok Thanks everyone....
-
As im on a mission replacing all the bushes underneath the corrado I was thinking while everything was stripped why not sort the puny brakes on the 1.8 16v with VR6 items and was wondering what was involved? Is it just a matter of carriers, calipers and discs or should you replace the master cylinder too! Im replacing the rears (standard) at the moment along with the rear Axle bushes which i completed yesterday :D Cheers All !
-
I can only speak for the 1.8 16v which goes well enough with a few simple mods ie Exhaust, filter, and tune up, as most of these cars are probably not running to the factory settings being old as they are, I used to take mine out with a spanner in hand and advance the timing untill it just started pinking and it flew to be fair  With A decent suspension setup they still go well enough for a bit of fun, I use my S3 for some proper performance now so the corrado only gets used in the summer
-
There is a proper brake spanner you can buy designed for the nuts on the copper brake pipe which helps as you can easily round the nut off with an 11mm spanner so be carefull! Halfords may sell it...
-
Blimey  Dont say that! There holding up my corrado without a rear axle beam at the moment with me underneath Shortly :) I bought some of these bits last year when they had this same offer on I also bought the swiveling seat and the car creeper and there pretty good quality to be fair

Thanks for the replys, You think they would tell you on these new kits wether you need to cut the bump stops down or suprisingly not try to sell there own!
-
Thanks Supercharged

Going to be investing in some weitec ultra GT for my 1.8 16v while im stripping down the rear axle to replace the axle bushes does anybody know if you have to cut the bump stops down with a 40mm drop? Thanks..
