You could always toughen it up with a set of those eyelashes. Pretty mean-looking, I'm sure you'll agree.

Barwell/Earl Shilton's where my immediate family lives and I quite often depart from there for more southerly events ;)

Welcome! Always nice to see someone getting excited about a Corrado ;) Most of my family lives in Leicestershire so I'm down that way from time to time. While you're up this way how about stopping by north Leeds on your way back from York for the VW Festival at Harewood House so you can show off your motor?

Definitely in if a GB goes ahead.

Man of many problems seeks man of much Wisdom (Oil temp,Heat,Fans,)

Take out the instrument cluster and carefully remove the needles for the temperature and fuel gauges. Under the metal disc you will see thin wire filaments wound around a metal strip. Make sure the end of the strip is located properly in its guide and that the filaments haven't fused together between the terminals and the metal strip - they shouldn't be touching each other, but pry apart if they are. That pretty much rules out the gauge itself. Perhaps renew the temp sender(s) and if that fails check wiring. Have you tried replacing the water pump? -
It turned out that all senders were working fine and the temp gauge in the dash was at fault. 2nd stage of the fan started working too after a strip down and check of the fan controller. In the instrument cluster the two filaments that wind around the bimetallic strip for the temp needle had fused together near the terminals, leading to a short circuit and little to no heating of the strip. Prised them apart and now the gauge is spot on! Oil's still a bit on the warm side - going to check out the main water pump next.

Yeah, there's supposed to be a fibre washer on there, about 1.2mm thick.

Hahah, thanks for that Jay! -
It turned out that the bolts that secure the rear carrier to the stub axle weren't torqued up and one worked its way out en route so the caliper was hanging off :S Thanks to everyone who pitched in with tools, elbow grease and compromising pictures - we got home safely with no further problems :)

Check hoses for air leaks. I imagine it's probably more likely to stall when coming to a stop quickly.

Aye, having re-checked with the rad connector stage 2 is not engaging when bridging the connections so I think stage 3 must be keeping it in check at 114°. I know this worked last year when I checked... Anyway, I've swapped back to the original yellow sender so I hope that's going to sort the gauge and now I'm going to try and get stage 2 working from the rad. Unfortunately the wiring there is in a mess from the dealer aircon installation so this isn't going to be fun :/

Debadged and lowered blackberry Corrado on a private plate PJZ** in Manchester's Northern Quarter last night at 5:25.

Apologies in advance for yet another cooling thread but I could do with some advice here. So I've recently got the VR back on the road and have replaced all the senders in the cooling system (also thermostat) as the oil was running at about 118°C most of the time and it seemed apparent that fan stages 1 and 2 were not engaging while the engine was running, with only the after-run kicking in, possibly stage 3. I tested fan operation by bridging connections and everything seemed OK there, so reasoned the senders might be at fault. Coolant temp on the dash was a little lower than oil, between 90 and 110°C. Nowadays the oil sits a little lower at around 112/114 but the coolant temp is always sat at 70, give or take 5 degrees. While idling I've seen the fans come on for a few seconds at a time and the after-run still operates if the temperature is high enough. Signal from the blue sender (via VAGCOM) matches the oil temp on the MFA. At the moment I'm suspecting the new yellow (or black as it is now) sender might is faulty - resistance too high, so reading lower temps than actual and failing to operate fans at the correct point. Does this sound reasonable and while I drain the coolant to swap the sender, is there anything else I should consider checking? Cheers for reading all that :)

Yeah, Paul doesn't get the recognition he deserves! Does all the dirty work and is always the one to bail out Mike with a trailer when he buys a lemon somewhere in Europe... That appearance fee is astronomic! I'd expect him to rebuild my Beetle for that

Do tell... I met the gang at the NEC last November and they seemed like good chaps.

Sounds pretty fair to me. Which company is that and who's the manufacturer of the parts?

Forgot about this one. Classic green Storm in the Asda HQ overflow car park on David Street in Leeds one Saturday last month. Also a friend said a red Corrado in the vicinity of Morley last week, too. No further details there save for it looking nice :)

I got some Febi ones from VW Spares at about £1.50 apiece. I expect genuine parts would be in the region of 10 times that :)

If Edd China rates it, who are we to argue? :) Are you planning to take the gear to any shows?
-
Good stuff. Are you making a weekend of it or driving down on Sunday?

Some fine sandpaper should see them right. Use WD40 if they're a bit greasy.
