I took a junior hacksaw to the compensator on mine, between it and the bracket. Realised why I was having a difficult time of it when it finally came free and the saw blade had sliced into the compensator body rather than between the two parts! I wasn't planning to remove the brackets but had to take off the nearside one to drill out the old bolts and retap the threads. While I'd marked its position with some Tip-Ex I found it necessary to relocate both the brackets as wide apart as possible to account for the new poly bushes. Even without the wheels being realigned the handling seems OK so far. Are you not coming to Stanford Hall at all, Kip?

Yeah, Halfords will add quite a markup. You'll likely find it cheaper in a smaller shop. Those CTEKs are designed to be left permanently connected so like dr_mat suggested I'd be checking the battery posts and terminals are in good order. A good tip is to smear the tops of the terminals with Vaseline when they're connected and working to prevent moisture and keep things clean. Well, not quite clean as they'll be covered in Vaseline, but you know what I mean ;)

I don't know if that one is worth £100 but I have one of these: http://www.google.co.uk/products/catalog?q=jump+starter&hl=en&safe=off&prmd=imvns&biw=1366&bih=679&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=9332195410660767750&sa=X&ei=rV3nT8ShBoGb1AW-34GWCQ&ved=0CL8BEPMCMAU It's sold under many different brands in quite a few shops but always has the same plastic moulding, possibly in a different colour. Looks, feels and is cheap but I got one from the local market years ago for £25 and it's saved my bacon many times. I can personally vouch for its performance starting a VR6 :) Oh, and a CTEK MultiXS charger would be a worthwhile investment to bring a battery back from the brink. They're not cheap but will pay for themselves in one or two goes if it avoids you buying a new battery.

Not really advisable as it's almost at the lowest point of the cooling system and the coolant will just gush out when you remove it. If you want to reuse the coolant then drain from the bottom rad hose into a clean container (10 litre capacity will be enough).

Crap, have I missed the boat on this? I knew I shouldn't have left the warm bosom of England for a stupid holiday :(

Aw, after seeing those amazing photos I feel even more gutted about not being there! Could have provided that elusive silver one, too :( -

Sadly I'm not going to be able to make it. Just had an MOT failure - nothing drastic, just mainly brake stuff I can't tackle myself - and the work won't be done until Monday. Gutted, but I'd much rather be driving a safe car. I'm still crossing my fingers for some nice sunshine for all those attending! -

Well, didn't actually make the MOT today. Was about to leave when I noticed the clutch and brake pedals were far too spongy, meaning I didn't bleed the hydraulics very well on the first attempt. Gave it a second go after forcing open the brake regulator which I didn't do first time round - there was still plenty of air in there... Pedal feel could be better but feels safer now. The number 21 relay (indicator flasher) had also mysteriously given up but I pinched one from my van and it's all working again. The ISV was pretty noisy so I've given it the WD40 treatment. There's numerous other grumblings and squeaks which I'm going to assume will begin to sort themselves out after a time - par for the course after being off the road for 7 or so months! Going to try again for the MOT in the morning and all being well will set off down the M1! -

Fired up the VR an hour ago for the first time since last September and she ran! Booked in for the MOT tomorrow afternoon - if all goes well we'll be travelling down on Saturday and staying over somewhere. Special thanks to Vag-Hag for sorting me out with some brakes last week ;) -
Yes, that would be fantastic! PM on its way.

No, I didn't know dealers did exchanges on callipers! Are they likely to take one with a very stuck and damaged-beyond-all-recognition-in-an-attempt-to-remove it bleed valve? :)
-
I think the G60 ones are the same as VRs (280mm) but the rest of the line-up has 256mm discs.
-
Due to a stuck bleed valve I need a replacement passenger side front calliper, standard VR6 jobby, to help get me to the CCGB national day. Exterior condition not important but it must work and have a loose or missing bleed valve! Willing to collect within West Yorkshire (within reason). Cheers, Neil

Blimey, how'd you manage to get a rear sensor out in one piece?
-
GSF do them but I'm pretty sure they want £80 a side.
-
I'll sound them out tomorrow and let you know. Cheers!
-
That's promising. If they can make it to Leeds then I know of a good mobile repairer who will come out to my house, although I'd have to check if he'll tackle this kind of job. Failing that I could always take a trip to that bodyshop in Barnsley if you rate them!

I need some work done on my windscreen surround (a bit of welding/painting) and might as well have a new screen fitted as the current one is showing its age and/or will shatter when removed! I don't suppose either there's a decent mobile bodywork specialist who will travel to the windscreen place or whether Auto Plus will travel to a nearby bodywork place to fit the screen?

I've made a bit of a mess of this bracket when removing the brake force regulator. Does anyone have one available in serviceable condition? Cheers, Neil

NEW Group Buy - VR6 Polyurethane engine mounts (PAYMENTS PLEASE)
nrc replied to 24V Renshaw's topic in Forum Group-Buys
About how much higher will my engine sit if replacing existing (likely 20-year-old original) mounts? I'm curious about bonnet clearance with the manifold and perhaps needing to cut more away. -
I've just got a set of rears from TPS; info in the OEM part prices thread here: http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?52187-OEM-VW-Parts-Price-Enquiries&p=836217&viewfull=1#post836217 These are the part numbers for the fronts: 3A0615311 left 3A0615312 right

Jim, are you offering goes in your car to interested parties? :) If we can get these or similar cams at a reasonable price I'm definitely interested. Maybe DG would do a run if enough folks are committed?
-
You sure you've not converted it to LPG? :)

Coventry Festival of Motoring - 26/8/2012

I've been to what was the Town and Country Show at Stoneleigh a few times and it's a good venue. Can't commit to this one just yet but will know by the weekend.
