Crap, sorry, didn't realise there are actually three heatshields! I was after the one that bolts onto the top of the exhaust manifold, not either of the ones under the car. Apologies for the confusion :)
-
I'll definitely have the strut brace, just found a cheap rear one so it'll match :) Will PM you re: collection / postage. Stone

Could I have the exhaust heatshield, posted please? Ta :)

You can get repair panels for this area (at frankly extravagent cost!) from the dealership. Each side gives you the complete inner A pillar and top of the door frame to the rear edge of the door aperture, and at the bottom includes this rotten area up to the frontmost part of the sill. I managed to snare an unused pair from on here a while back - lucky find as I've not seen another set since! Mine are thoroughly rotten in this spot - just as bad as yours - so I'm hopefully going to get it sorted during the respray I seem to have been planning for years now  Seems to be one of the worst areas on the whole car as water gets flicked up by the front wheels and trapped behind the arch liner - post-repair it's going to get a very thorough coat of underseal :) Stone

When replacing the tappets you're supposed to let them sit installed for 30mins before starting the engine - not sure how many people actually do this? As with everything in the Bentley it's totally unclear whether it's utterly crucial or just a recommendation...

There's another company I ran into while setting up the Roose group buy that you might consider: http://www.sfsperformance.co.uk/ Based in Luton, no good or bad reviews but worth a shot?

Are you use original or Lupo/TT arms? After I swapped to Lupo GTi arms the passenger side always drops slightly into the scuttle panel, I wasn't even aware you could adjust it! You get used to the annoying noise after a while ;) If you rotate the passenger arm upwards by one spline then it'll stop it, but then they look wrong when parked. Stone

Stem seals will only be worn by high-lift camshafts squashing them, extreme age or ovaled valve guides - only one of which will be solved by replacing them without getting the head off. If the engine's stock it's probably the valve guides so you should do those to save you having to do it all again later. Stone

I've seen an awful lot of Samco hoses with splits/bulges in. Could just be because they're likely to be a lot older than the Roose ones (as they've only been available recently) but they don't use as many plies of reinforcing material between the layers of silicone. You also have to wait ages when ordering them if they've not got any Corrado ones in stock, as they make them in central Europe somewhere and there's a long waiting list. Roose produce within 3 days. Lifetime guarantee on Roose hoses makes the plastic connector moot - Samco only offer 2 years limited warranty. But Samco are cheaper. You pays your money and takes your choice :) Stone

Or I could buy one of the sets I was offered and let you lot sort it out among yourselves ;) I have enough half-finished Corrado projects as it is...!

Just dropped the car off at Total VAG in Leighton Buzzard when I saw a black C - G*** RMX. I was the looney waving pedestrian! Stone PS: your back right brake light is out...

Appears I've caused a fuss again  Sorry! Have responded to mic_VR in the affirmative. I didn't make this quite as clear as I could have, but I did ask them first. They said I was the first person to ask in over 2 years, they hadn't sold any for at least 3, had trouble shifting them all in the first place and not only did they not sell them any more or have any in stock, but the guy who did the CAD left the company and took the original CNC files with him! (yes, I did shamelessly ask for the CAD files so I could make some on work's CNC machine, no I have no shame :D) Really don't see what the problem would be, but you're right that it would be polite to ask before doing another run. Unfortunately I need my fans replaced very pronto as I have no cooling right now...unless I drive (even) faster. But it sounds like there are a few unused sets floating around out there that could be used as patterns! Cheers, Nick

I tried swapping NCB between cars once, but it only would have saved £200-300 on the premium for the car I wanted to swap it to, but the policy I wanted to remove it from were going to charge me £800+£50 admin fee for no longer having an NCB on it! If you use the Saxo as the daily then I'd put the 14 years NCB on that next renewal and use a classic policy (not accruing NCB but not needing it either) for the rado. Stone

PM sent. 95% sure I'll have them, just wanted to be totally confident so we don't post them back and forth unnecessarily :) Stone

This is exactly why I like the auto box on the VR6es, there aren't many people who'd drop into 1st if you put your foot down when you're doing 20 but the box does it every time! The auto ECU decides whether you're being silly or not (in the late model one without the manual Sport button, at least) and if it decides you're trying to be silly then it will quite happily cane it all the way to the rev limiter. Also, upshifts are crazy fast :D You lose some top end from not having a fifth gear but you normally aren't driving fast enough for that to make a difference. I've beaten stock R32s off the line at Santa Pod (for the first 20m or so, heh) but my favourite was a nice M3 - I cheated slightly by carrying 15mph into the lights while he had to start from stationary, but he was so surprised he spent the next mile or so six inches from my bumper waving his fist  Stone

What are the headlight lenses like? If they're perfect I'll take them - just wanted to check the horizontal line visible on the nearside light isn't a scratch!

Halon's been illegal for years, so long in fact that it's now quite difficult to legally dispose of it. I believe for the military / aerospace applications where they still have halon-based installations or portable extinguishers it's legal to put a genuine fire out with one but then impossible to get the system refilled! The best industrial ones use liquid nitrogen now (cools + smothers) but as with halon it's not ideal if there are people inside... A lot of naval equipment has a CO2 injection port so you can fill it with gas without opening the casing and letting more oxygen in, which is quite a good idea. I've seen some horrific shots of modern car fires where the magnesium alloy used in sports car chassis has eventually caught and there's the square root of naff-all left of the car afterwards :suprised: Stone

Late VR6 should be 4-pin MAF - not sure when the changeover happened though. OEM looms are usually tightly taped rather than being covered in heatshrink though? Your wiring may have been changed but I'd be pretty confident that 4-pin is correct. Stone

Lovely, ta. Getting my coilies swapped this weekend so have primed the garage to do this too as mine are properly rusty now! Looking forward to fixing another rattle or two :)

The fans are only needed when you're doing roughly 40 or under, it's just to give it a bit of a helping hand. Right now mine are unplugged (after they caught fire ) and my temperatures are totally normal until I get stuck in traffic, when they start to gradually creep up. Provided oil doesn't go over 120-130ish and coolant is under 110 then it's most likely fine. Do try and troubleshoot it if your fans aren't working though, it's expensive to fix once they've burned out. Also, keep an eye on the Samco hoses and replace any that look dodgy. I've lost count of the number I've seen with cracks in them - they're made from cheap materials without enough reinforcement layers and once they start to deteriorate it's just a matter of time until they're leaking. Worse, the cracks can open up with pressure so you end up with a slow leak that only lets coolant out when you're driving it! Keep an eye on your coolant level, you shouldn't ever really have to top it up. Stone

Awesome, think that cancels out my fans catching fire twice! The blue badge grommets cost pence, and swapping them for new ones makes a huge difference to how firmly the badges are held on. PM me your address and I'll send you a couple. Stone

Long shot, but DG have stopped doing their double fan bracket and I wondered if anybody had a spare one or one that's been sat in the bits box..? I'm after the ones that look like this: Needed fairly urgently as my fans have packed in and I'm booked in for repairs (under warranty, thankfully!) on the 30th. Thanks in advance, Nick

It's powder-coat, and given time it will crack...whether it's JOMs, Weitecs or KWs.

Good to know, thanks! Bazmcc: 12g = 55 litres, 15g = 70 litres.

My set arrived today - thanks, they look very sturdy! How many bolts are we supposed to get? Only five were in my set - have I got one missing or do two of the straps share a mount at one end?
