  1. no, quoted me £1400, charged me £2000......  :x  :( :?
  2. Not sure to be honest with you. I cna't remember how much I used when I filled mine up. I can't see it being much more than a litre, but it's always handy to have some extra for top ups.
  3. Just get yours trimmed. I've got plenty of pics showing all the stitch lines.
  4. I will never have a respray done again. It was sheer hell having to put up with the bodyshop. Their timescales are a joke, quoting 2 weeks, taking 3 months...yeah, cheers. :x Having the bodywork on my old golf done was one of the most stressful things I've ever been through, It caused me premature hair loss and turned me in to a right bitter old b4stard too. don't do it! :? :(
  5. It right down on the bottom front of the engine. no, there is no haynes manual for the VR6, well, not in Elnglish anyway.
  6. well you could diconnetc the reurn pipe (the rubber one) off the pump and let run off into a container, but you risk running the system dry that way. It may harm it, but shouldn't be too bad if you stop the engine the instant no more fluid comes out. I'd take the belt off, and the rubber hose, put that in a container and turn the pump by hand to see if it'll pump it out that way, then you know you won't damage the pump. When you refill it, expect the pump to knock a bit until all the air is out.
  7. The heat shield for the TB is factory! it's off a VR6 syncro. Not noticed any adverse effects from by passing the TB coolant lines. then again, I never ran this engine with them connected as it has no heater in it. so as you will guess, I've never ran it in the winter either. the rev counter is fine, I've got a dyno plot to prove it prduces power up to 7000rpm. and boy does it sound good! it tokk me a month before I eventually found the rev limiter!
  8. Air will naturally find it's way to the bottle. just run the engine at high idle for a while, get the car up on axle stands and turn the wheel from left to right for a bit, to get the fluid pumping round. I killed a PS pump using red ATF....and my rack died shortly afterwards. As a side note, peugeot 306 TD's use a pump that looks identical! handy if you need a spare.

    jets or what?

The rubber bungs that the injectors sit in a a swine for leaking and letting air in. Check your plugs to see if any of the pots are running lean.
  10. I'm not keen on mesh grilles really, but thanks for the offer.
  11. The GSF ones snap. be prepared for more knocking and dodgy handling within amonth.
  12. doesn't look too bad, I could make one of those. anyone got a broken late grille?
  13. How much!!! take them off and wax the screen..... :D
  14. For a late spec rado. Debadge the stock grille? Reiger? venom? Pics please, and tell me if it's plastic of fibreglass. I fancy going mad and fitting a rallye front end with HID's.
  15. Havent fitted the 4WD drive yet. but it's currently got 207BHP. It's built for torque, not peak power. Turn2USA crank pulley 268 cams Schrick VGI TB coolant bypass Cone filter mounted outside the engine bay. TB heat sheild No PCV, EGR, carbon cannister of oil breather rubbish. Unknown chip (revs to 7200??)
  16. You hear different stories off different people. some say it rots the seals, some say it's OK, some say NEVER use ATF in VE PS systems, VW included (but they would say that wouldn't they). Better safe than sorry.
  17. Me too, but they are too small. I'm running 9"x17" o the rear, and 7"x17" on the front. I'll have 205/40's on the front, so the only tyre that's the correct rolling raduis to match is a 235/35. But I can't find anyone who makes them!!
  18. I can't find any anywhere. Do they exist?
  19. try removing it, cleaning it, and cleaning the block where it mounts back to bare metal (it earths through it's body). refit it, without any grease.
  20. You should come along to the ClubGTI meet in Harrogate. Junior used to come regularly. I'd love to see the car again.
  21. don't use ATF! buy the proper power steering fluid from your VAG dealer. Same with coolant, use the proper genuine VAG stuff, not cheap sh1te.
  22. I love this car, always have done. I hope you haven't ruined it, it was perfect as it was! :( I'm looking forward to Elsecar next year, I guess it'll be ready by then?
  23. It's not really a sensr, more a swtich. if it's anything like the old mk2 system, the tracks in the switch are prone to corrosion.

    6-speed Box

not sure, haven't driven the car for a while. but on 195/50/15's, 4000rpm is 100mph, just when the Schrick switches over and the cams come in
  25. I ordered the VR one anyway, I'm sure it's the same fitting, just longer. I see so many mk2 VR conversions where they've kept the old cable and it isn't long enough to run through the gap in the cam coaver like it's meant to.
