1. Tonight after work, car started fine and no real problems on my journey back home... but something is not right so will keep digging. I really appreciate all the help guys. I'm studying the Hayness manual for Passat 1988 to 1991 which covers 9A engine. I will be taking car to the garage on Friday/Saturday, but at least now I can point and/or explain my problem in more details rather than "idle issue". I've also checked for vacuum leaks - but as far as I can say all hoses look good, thought it's hard to be 100% sure. Haynes says even small split or crack can screw up the engine normal operation... there are so many hoses in awkward locations
2. That is a brilliant ability to always search for a positives regardless of what is happening. I like. This morning (woke up at 5am to avoid morning traffic) tried to start the car and issue re-appeared. It would just not idle. Decided to still drive to work. 100-200m into the journey and problem got fixed on it's own. Arrived at work. Stopped, restarted engine like 10 times and all is well... But I know it isn't! The danger is the moment the engine dies, it removes power steering and also brakes... it's super dangerous to drive like that. I'll look into sensors, but should I start replacing them one-by-one in a lucky bid to replace the faulty one? I need some 16V gurus, please... Can take it to garage, but garage will not research issue that is not happening at the time, surely?
3. Well not exactly :( As mentioned above, after replacing ISV car started fine and idle was fine. We decided not to go cinema so I took the car for a spin and all was fine - did good few miles. Came back home, made above post, had some food... 2 hrs passed and decided to take car for a spin again - just to be on the safe side. Car started up no problem , idle was fine, but half a mile down the road engine died on the crossroad with the same symptoms - no idle. I can start engine fine (with acceleration pedal), but it will die straight away as soon as I remove my foot. Limped back home... and well that is where I am now. Damn it, what else it may be?
4. I sourced ISV some time ago but since my ISV stopped playing up was waiting with replacement. Today was just about to go with misses to cinema and... it happened again. Car struggled to start, u need to help with acceleration pedal and then would not idle at all. RPM would plummet and engine stopped. One philips screwdriver and new ISV later (10min job) and car started straight away and perfect idle ;) Great success. Was waiting with replacement as wanted to be 100% sure that replacing it will fix this. So far so good Hope it will stay like that.
5. This is an interesting read. My insurance covers exhaust and all mods for as long as I do not go over XY BHP, etc... but then forgetting my insurance. Does this fell into category of modification: Uprated loom - I mean OEM loom is far more dangerous to drive with than the uprated loom, Audi TT wipers - again, OEM does not really work that well while the Audi/Lupo wipers is dream to drive in a rain, I mean all this stuff is safety improvements, would one be penalized for not declaring this as a mod on their insurance?
6. Great stuff. Let me know when you get chance to remove it. Can come and collect it to save you hassle with posting.
7. Harsher punishment! For keying a car, let's chop his finger, for two cars, well two fingers, etc... Sounds a bit like Sharia law, but that is the only way to teach such low lifers anything. You cannot reason with them... you just have to go medieval on their asses (as they say in Pulp Fiction). I remember many years ago there was someone damaging (kicking/punching ?) mirrors on cars (this was back in Poland). I remember few people decided to stay overnight and keep guard. This took few days but they caught the b*tards and problem got solved once and for all - never heard of any other cars being damaged back then.
8. Kip, have you got Electric Window Control Module? Ever since I removed my door cards to replace door membranes my driver side window sometime doesn't work - other days it works just fine. Some days both windows refuse to work, and sometimes passenger window will play up. But mainly it's drivers side window. It's very intermittent. I can hear clicking on the back so it seem switch and electrics are fine. There are days where I can get in the car, close the door.. and the window will work up-and-down few times, and then it will refuse to go down out of the blue. Did some reading and few people point to that Electric Window Control module... think, it's worth giving a try.
9. Just came back from cinema. What a movie! Probably not to everyone's taste, but it's a great movie overall and worth seeing. 9/10 from me, loved the music (link: https://soundcloud.com/life-of-pi) and scenery is seriously beautiful. There should be more movies like that, instead of all these Twilight/Transformes crap!
10. Simply saying both platforms complement each other. I always assumed that it is natural that you want to be part of the-corrado.net forums and at the same time join CCGB club. This way you get best of both worlds. There are a lot people out there (I hope) paying CCGB membership and also donating to the-corrado forum. To put it even more simply if I have to buy ISV from ebay for £50 (that's of unknown origin). I can buy it over here for £20, then donate £5 to forum and also pay my membership for CCGB, and I have a working ISV and some moneys left. win-win. You just can't go wrong.
11. I'm a fairly new member. So I always paid only £10. If it's going up by £5 so be it. I spend thousands of pounds every year to keep my car running (repairs, parts, insurance, petrol). Membership fee of £10 or £15 is nothing in comparison to these costs and that's just once a year payment. Every now and then Sprinter magazine shows up at my mailbox, every year I do get a new membership card (which seriously looks ace! - haven't seen any other membership cards that look so good). Occasionally we get club branded stuff (air fresheners, tax disc holders) - so after all it's money well spent... I would sign myself to keep Sprinter magazine in paper form at all cost (even if membership fee will go up) - we like to collect it, don't we? I bet most of our homes are filled with Corrado related stuff anyway, paper based Sprinter is just a nice touch. If you make it email-based it will loose all it's magic :)
12. ...and mine is here, just there in front of me :) Thanks for all involved. So far great month... first calendar, now Sprinter issue, was I really that good this year?
13. I've always been using this from Halffords: http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_169605_langId_-1_categoryId_165745 It's small enough to sit behind my passenger seat. It last's for quite long, once used.. you can buy replacement filling-bag (so no need for new box). Hard to say how well it works I also re-did my indoor membranes, still for the price it's worth giving a shot. edit: Mine rear window does steam a bit... but nowhere even close to see droplets and such (as you describe) so may have diff problem somewhere else.
14. Ralphead any rough idea of price you would wish for yours and maybe some photo? I'm not after amazing sound tbh... I imagine 6x4" cannot really deliver proper sound, especially when there is no amp in the car. I just need something to fill the sound from the back a bit. Looked at the speakers joe posted "Pioneer TSA-4613i" but at the price tag of £50, I'm just unsure atm. There are so many places where I can burn money on my car, seems speakers are somewhere down on the list. That's why after some thinking would prefer getting some cheapos and be with it, until I can convince myself into something better. Also, regarding Pioneer "TSA-4613i" do I need any special equipment (crossovers or whatever its called) or it's just a direct fit? These are 3-way, where my door ones are 2-ways, can you mix it up like that? Having in mind there is no amp in my car. I have a Pioneer DEH-P4100SD headunit tho.
15. No good I'm afraid. Removed speaker shelf and trimmed plastic, all nice and clean. Due to size of magnet and that additional "plastic lip" on new speakers", even after trimming it will not go in. Basically there is not enough clearance available to slot them into shelf. Picture may represent this a bit better: I'm going to sell these JBL GTO6428 (4x6") speakers and will get something else. Whats this set of Longmill 6x4 you have? Can't find anything on internet?
16. Agree, at 1:56 it started real nice... btw. What DAW are you using? Abletone by any chance?
17. Hmm, I have this slight worry clutch in my car could be on it's last legs. Still it's seems to drive fine, throughout gears, but when driving in traffic (1st gear), if I try to let go clutch completely (even slowly) without pressing accelerator pedal, my car start to "jumps" and behaves very erratic, almost to the point of stalling. It's only by pressing accelerator pedal I can keep it moving - that unfortunetly means that if driven in traffic I always travel quicker than everyone else. So there is a lot of clutch/accelerator pedal/brakes work involved to keep me going. Should a Corrado 16V be able to drive forward (slowly) with 1st gear selected but feet not touching either clutch or accelerator pedal? Mine seem to be unable to do that. Could that point into a worn clutch? It's hard for me to say if clutch is heavy or not. It's always been the same - I have no records of it ever being changed in the past (17+ years... - I bet I just answered my question now)
18. I'm surprised you still have one left. Flebay sell used ones for £10 (random condition) and new ones for like twice that amount. You're asking £6.50 ... these should sell super fast, not too mention it's very rare that people sell them in first place. edit: Maybe it's cause 16V drivers do not like to put badges on their cars... so it looks more like a VR
19. Need to stop. Just spent 45 minutes looking through that website :) Some people seriously need to learn how to park. I bet some people had no choice, one parked badly others followed, then the last car stayed and got photographed.. even tho it wasn't his fault.. but still majority of these pictures is just real bad parking skills. Notice how many 4x4s are there...
20. it's a zombie thread, a lot of weird things are allowed :)
21. I'll have a go on this again over the weekend. Will remove the shelves and will see what I can do with that. Was just needing some advice, as didn't wanted to just cut things out and then end up with buying different speakers anyway. If you say I will struggle with any other modern speakers as most of them are on the big size, then I shall make the existing ones work somehow.
22. I may do that... just when was looking at it - there is that top mount rubber cover in a way as well. Not sure, would I have to remove that also? Is it OK to remove that rubber cover? I'm just unsure if all 6x4 speakers are so big... or I just was unlucky and went for like the biggest of them all? Was really expecting them to just fit straight in. To be honest after all the hard work I had with replacing the door speakers, this looked like a walk in the park.. well last famous words :)
23. Okey another Corrado madness. In my attempt to replace everything that is broken or doesn't work I decided to replace tired rear speakers. Same as my front-right the rear-right one was blown. So checked all details at it says everywhere that rears are 6x4 so... shopped online and bought JBL GTO6428. This arrived today, so took old speakers out and try to replace with the new ones... ehm.. they are twice the size of the old ones! I mean have a look... Tried to somehow fit them, and it seem there is no way! I would have to cut the plastic bottom part of the tray... and I'm still unsure if it will fit anyway! So what are my options? I thought all speakers as long as size is same (6x4, etc..) will fit. Did I just burn money for no good reason? Should I look for another set of speakers or should I cut that plastic? I'm bit annoyed, as when was doing research it said these speakers will fit Corrado... I just can't see how? I just want something that works, is not in your face and doesn't cost fortune. Did I missed something really obvious? Any ideas? ps. On the pictures you can see there is some sort of black plastic surround going around the speaker? Can I chop it off as well ? This would safe me at least 1cm. As you can see I'm desperate. Ideally I would sell them off for cheap and get some direct fitment... if such exist?
