  1. You mean like safety recall type flaws? The only one I can find on first quick inspection for US Corrados is the coolant recall - ================================================ Recall Circular Code: UE April 1999 Subject: 1992-94 Volkswagen Corrado Vehicles Equipped With VR6 Engines Modify Engine Coolant System Dear Volkswagen Dealer: This is to inform you of a voluntary safety recall campaign involving 1992-94 model year Volkswagen Corrado vehicles equipped with VR6 engines. This recall involves modification of the engine coolant system. The vehicles affected by this recall are within the following vehicle identification number range: WVWEF450_NK000001 - WVWEF450_RK003774 ================================================ Or just general points to look out for? Like breaking sunroofs etc. If the former then a quick call to VW (USA) customer service should tell you whether a particular car has had its safety recalls done.
  2. Can't really beleive the 42 degrees myself (was a colleague who spoke to the guy on-site) - cetain bits of kit I know of would die well before they got to 35 degress, let alone 42!!! As to whether 42 is survivable - I've been in an environmental test chamber at 40 degrees - only for less than a minute - and that wasn't too bad. Didn't they have temperatures of 51 deg C in India/Pakistan a couple of weeks ago?
  3. VAG-COM is a s/w package written by Ross Tech that emulates the VAG main dealer diagnostics tools. Used by private individuals and independent VAG specialists ('cos it costs $200 as opposed approx. $1500 for the pukka VW diagnostics) - So yes - it's a diagnostic on the Motronic ECU. The ECU can tell if certain sensors (e.g. Camshaft Position Sensor, Engine Speed Sensor, O2 sensor) are dis or shorted to 0 or 12 V. I've read here on numerous occasions that any of the above mentioned sensors dying leaves the ECU to guess values meaning you're down a few BHP (heard claims of 30BHP down for a dead camshaft sensor  )
  4. Had your VR VAG-COM'd recently? Check for dead camshaft sensor, engine speed sensor and/or lambda probe. Any/all of these are prime suspects to drop a few 10s of BHP.
  5. Just had one of our (Marconi) engineers on the phone from a BT site in Slough. He refused to go in to the exchange & work 'cos the temperature was 42 C !!! Don't blame him.
  6. Never heard of 'em. :D :D :D :D Sorry, couldn't resist that one either!
  7. So anyone know who makes VW's Quantum stuff then???
  8. Right. That's it. You lot have made up my mind. Just posted this in parts for sale: ======================================================== 1995 2.9 VR6 Engine (ABV) 85k miles. Full VWSH. Recently Dyno'd at 191bhp. Oil consumption negligible. £999. (replacing this with a worn out 1991 G60 engine 250k miles no SH 'cos everyone ses it's faster) ======================================================== (sorry - couldn't resist!)
  9. I'm guessing that too. Only car I've driven with it was a newish Astra (work pool car).
  10. Mods! Somebody lock this thread quick before it imitates every other G60 vs. VR6 thread :)

    check this out

Everything on the C is temperamental!
  13. Scott, did you get in touch with Chris Gaskell about your smoking problem (not of the tobacco variety :) ) ???
  14. Definitely on my list of "must do" jobs...
  15. What sort of angle are your driveshafts at with a drop like that?
  16. If you have a "one touch up" system you must have some sort of load sensor on the motor - or else you're asking for severed/crushed fingers etc. Some cars do have one touch up (Nissan/Toyota) without proper safety load sensors - just asking for trouble IMHO!!!
  17. By phone? have a look here
  18. I've heard others say that it's only over 120  that you get the better of some cars...
  19. There you go Roddy, not "near perfect" anymore, with those rear clusters - "PERFECT".

    MFA default

But MoT probe thingy looks at the sump & MFA probe is on top of the oil filter housing - bound to be different???
  21. why a laptop? 1. because I've got a spare one! 2. because the laptop with battery and external PSU already has proper power management built in, and is suited to be suspended when the ignition goes off The plan is to have the laptop closed but powered up, and use an external TFT LCD touch screen. Might even mount the laptop in a docking station in the boot.
  22. Yeah - PM me if you'd like to talk about it some more...
  23. Add into the equation - "8 month old son", "3 year old daughter" and "wife" (!) and I'm left with absolutely 0 spare time so I reckon it'll never make it off the page...   If it does it'll be a bloody miracle!
  24. probably the safest place ! Just round the corner from a big chunk of "urban regeneration" of the City centre, lots of trendy stuff about - recording studios, bars, cafes, art galleries and that bit of the street has obviously been set aside as a graffiti tolerant area as it's all over about a 70 yard stretch of that street. Probably loads of "trendy" scallys about too  :( (notice skip skillfuly (!) photochopped out of the first pic...)
  25. Here's some details of a little project I've been thinking about for a while now: (mainly 'cos I've got a spare laptop lying around at home looking for a use...) just need to find a spare week to get it all together 8) 8) 8) (The inspiration for this mad idea can be found here ) The Corrado-Puter! A Corrado based computing/entertainment device, providing: GPS satellite navigation & route planning DVD/MP3/VCD/CD video/audio playback Tracker-like SMS & email based security features (if the car is started without unique USB key/dongle present then it sends me an SMS message telling me so & containing the car's current location obtained from the GPS. Its movements are recorded to a file which could be auto-emailed every 5 or 10 mins. Or if I send an SMS to the car like "Where RU" it will reply with its current location. Could even send a message to tell it to set off the alarm's panic circuit with a little extra h/w) email/www access wireless LAN sync of all files (mp3 etc.) when outside the house permanent VAG-COM monitoring/performance analysis The system will be based on an old laptop (probably Celeron 400 with 128M & 6G disk) with the suspend/resume switch from the lid triggered from the radio/accessory circuit so it should hibernate & wake up within about 10 secs of keys in/out. The system will run either win2k or a flavour of linux like http://www.dashpc.com . (preferably linux if I can get a driver for the USB GPS.) The laptop battery should act as a kind of UPS whilst the car is cranked/started and the external DC drops, and allow it to suspend when the keys are removed. Power provided by mains inverter and laptop's standard psu, or directly by custom built dc/dc converter. With an external 7" VGA TFT LCD touchscreen mounted somewhere on the dash, the laptop, PSU & other gubbins could be mounted under the passenger side storage shelf whilst retaining access to the CD drive. Also, a wireless USB keyboard with builtin trackball will be used when the touchscreen isn't enough. The screen will retract or be removable when not in use for security. The GPS receiver will probably be the Royaltek USB GPS mouse. The audio out will be either connected via a cassette adapter to the head unit or wired directly into the preamp. Either the Nokia cardphone or a Nokia 6130 + Psion GSM PCcard will be used for the SMS interface and dialup internet access. (Cardphone preferred as a neater & higher spec. solution - supports GPRS) WLAN pc card will provide access to my wired lan at home via my wireless access point. And by running VNC I could conceivably get to the car's "desktop" from inside the house. A USB socket will be mounted in the dash or gearstick surround. A small USB key will have to be present whenever the laptop is "awake" or else it will send a text message to my mobile with the present location of the car from the GPS, saving the car's movements to a file which could be auto-emailed to me every 5/10 mins. VAG-COM could be permanently wired in to the diags socket of the car. Could also do performance measurements (0-60, 0-100 & 1/4 mile times using the GPS as a reference.) - combine with VAG-COM for engine RPM + other telemetry too.
