Washed the car and dried it off yesterday. Then I started it up and the ABS light went out :? Turned it off then started again and the lght stayed on :? A couple of hours later went out in the car and the light stayed on, stopped the car to visit the shop, got back in, started it up and the light went out :? This morning the light came on and stayed on. From this I think I have a loose connection somewhere relating to the power supply to the ABS system. Anyone know where the ABS earth connection is?

Am I right in saying when there are no faults with the ABS the light will go out but the fault codes are still retained. I don't need to clear the codes with VAG-COM to extinguish the light???
-
I've also checked the connectors into the ABS under the bonnet.

The light comes on when starting and stays on.

I've cleaned all the battery terminals. I found some corrosion on the ABS controller connector where moisture had got in so I've cleaned the connector and controller contacts. I also found a blown 30amp fuse next to relay 79 but I'm not sure if this has blown this morning during my investigations so I've changed that. I've checked fuse no 4 in the fuse box and this is ok. Needless to say I've still got the ABS light on :( Do you think the stealer could have given me a faulty relay? When I turn the ignition on I can hear clicking from the relay. MOT is looming next month so I need to get this sorted.

Funkster, you still want me to get them Laser cut?
-
Will do, thanks

Picked up relay 79 today, just fitted it, cleared the fault code and it has NOT cured my problem. Is there something else I should be doing to clear the code? Any ideas? Fed up now :( :( :( :(

After tightening up the play in the rear bearing, the noise was reduced slightly but still evident. So I bit the bullet and had both rears changed yesterday and now I have NO noise :D

Don't know if I'm lucky but I've never had leaks or steaming up problems in the 2 years I've owned my C.................oops I've opened my big mouth.

I'm lucky to get a discount at the stealers in Notts everytime I visit so I'll be keeping my CCGB membership. Got 10% off the wrong ABS relay yesterday. Changing it tomorrow.

They're in the same boat as the blue washer jets and the under car neons................poo :pukeright: just my opinion of course :)
-
ok mate, I'll swap them tomorrow. thanks
-
Just 2. Relay 179 to the left and 79 to the right and a few fuses.
-
Nice one mate, was hoping someone would reply quick as am in the car with the laptop and vag-com. I'll go back tomorrow. Cheers

So I ordered a ABS relay and the bloke said there was only one listed for the ABS. Picked it up today and it was the 179 relay not the 79 relay. Fitted it and I've still got the fault code. I tried clearing the code but it keeps coming back. Have I been given the wrong relay? Are they both for the ABS?

Ordered it this afternoon from VAG, will be available for collection Wednesday morning.

£13.56 + vat & no stock. Just got off the phone. Can I get them from GSF or similar? Edit - GSF don't do them.
-
No relay yet. Are they a dealer only item? I'll have ago without taking the glove box out.
-
Just wanted to make it easier to get at. Looks like Henny's put the brakes on that.
-
How does the glove box come out? I've removed all screws and it's loose now but there is a lip on the dash that stops it pulling out.
-
I've come to work with my tool box today so will whip out the dash to get to the relay. Is relay 79 marked up as such?

Just found this which seems to backup the above answers. http://the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic. ... s&start=15

Now that I've got it you can put me down for OBD connector in Notts, Derbys, Leicestershire. Thanks
