  1. Thanks for your kind words. It seems that today is going to be the only good day this week so the bike will likely be pre-delivery inspected and delivered today instead of tomorrow. It's unlikely to get much use for a month though - the roads are white with salt here at the moment (and everywhere else no doubt). 180bhp, one small tyre contact patch and slippery roads are not my idea of a laugh!....although my NCB bonus *is* protected.... That's true, I guess complete engine changes are way different to bolt-ons. It doesn't help that the mate in question doesn't really understand what he's bolting on. Shiny does not always equal good. There's no way even a mildly tuned and well set-up 16v would keep with a nail of a VR6 in my opinion......cue someone to tell me I'm wrong....
  2. You should find some taller people to fight
  3. I'd like to say "install a TDi engine"...but there's little chance of that happening. If it passes its next MOT in August I'll refrain from taking a hammer to it.
  4. I had better cars/bikes when I was 19 than at any other time in my life. I can't remember how I managed it but I certainly miss those days.
  5. I remember getting gritted years ago in a four year old (and pristine) white Astra GTE 16v. The gritter absolutely trashed the side of it by chipping it down to the grey undercoat in over 50 places. Lucky it was nothing special.....fast as, but not special.
  6. The fuel returning to the tank will surely be at (or very very close to) the pressure that the fuel pressure regulator is set to. Before the fuel pressure regulator seems the obvious and sensible mounting point. I'm interested in this gauge too as I'm sure I have a fuel pressure problem. Any details would be good.
  7. Where does the dog's arse go? I haven't got one of those
  8. I would expect if it's the brakes making the noise it'll change or become more/less apparent when the brakes are applied. Wheel bearings make a fairly distinctive constant rumbling noise, but the rears are cheap (like £8 a side) and easy to change. A good test is to listen for the noise getting louder/quieter while cornering. Louder on left handers is the right wheel bearing, and vice versa for right handers.
  9. Mine's been as loud as heck for ages - no bother. I do intend to chance the fuel filter soon though because it doesn't look like it's ever been done!
  10. I just assumed you had ginger hair....eh? eh? You see what I did there? eh?
  11. Plus? Plus what? I don't get it...
  12. I studied for a year of my bachelors degree at the University of Victoria, BC, Canada.
  13. I have a friend with a Renault 5 Turbo and I've watched him modifying it over the last few years. Each step he takes makes it a little bit worse to drive, and for very small gains in power it seems. There's no way I'd go the same route and modify the Corrado for extra power when VRs are so cheap now. The only engine swap that would interest me is a TDi conversion!
  14. My 1990 G-plate 1.8 16v has an adjustable steering column and all the other electric bits and bobs too - I assumed it was all standard when I bought the car.
  15. Wow...I'm almost embarrassed about draging this one off topic!
  16. That really depends on what skills and equipment you have and what you can do yourself.
  17. To be honest, I like to look at it more than I like to drive it. The 16v isn't the most inspiring drive I've ever experienced.
  18. I swapped the Momo Race wheel from my 1990 Mk. 2 Golf GTi into my Corrado, and although the boss fitted, the horn contacs didn't line up. I didn't investigate any further and just used an Italovanti boss instead with the Momo wheel. I'm pretty sure the Momo boss should have fitted though.
  19. & keeping warm/dry when it's raining.. and generally staying more alive when you have a crash. I'm just messin' people - a car is a must have item these days and what better than a Corrado? Nothing (for the same money at least)! The bike is definitely just a toy....but what a toy. As for the comment about the crashing....having spent some time stuck in a Golf GTi upside down in a ditch in the dark with a hot engine and a smell of fuel, I think I'll take my chances on the bike. Being stuck in a crashed car is NOT my idea of a good time and I'm not planning to repeat it....ever.
  20. The same question has been asked a load of times - I can think of at least two fairly extensive threads about it. I recommend a search.
  21. I had a little dig around and found this: Revved Up Renault 5 It's an episode of Revved Up with a feature on Renault 5s at Santa Pod. The red R5 I'm talking about does a 12.1 about 2 mins 45 secs into the video. The file is close to 40MB by the way to anyone that wants to download it....and the presenter is a bit of a nob.
  22. I completely disagree. Nothing wrong with the Evo 3, although the 5 is the weapon of choice IMO. Certainly quicker than any standard Corrado, so if speed's your passion....
  23. I'm sure it's the same guy. I have a mate who spends a lot of time on the R5 owners club forum - he has a R5 but it's rarely on the road. He talks about that Mike guy like a God! I heard that he's sold the red R5 now and started another project so it may be driven by someone else now. Space savers? Surely not! Recommended max. speed 50mph, not 125mph over the 1/4 mile....lol. I've seen it run with steel wheels on the back before.
  24. Get two quotes - one from VW, which will be high, and one from your preferred garage, which should be cheaper. The insurance company will likely give the go-ahead to the cheapest quote. That's what's happened before in my experience at least.
