If you can do the work yourself then the running costs are minimal I'd say. I've had my 1.8 16v for two and a half years and by far the majority of the money I've spent on it (still not a lot) was on things I wanted, rather than needed.

Anyone see the dream garage on Fifth Gear....

Right oh. It's 44MB and my ISP is being a pain to upload to at the moment. I'll let you know when it's up. * EDIT * It's up at http://www.southeast.plus.com/Fifth_Gear.avi -

I can host the feature if anyone's interested. -
Ok...so I guess nobody out there knows anything about this. How about some pictures of a 9A airbox showing the position of the overrun cut-off valve and the diaphragm pressure valve? Any takers? Please?!...

The symapthy and concern from the forum members is astonishing. Seriously though...someone should check!

Is my head on backwards or is the steering wheel on the wrong side?! * EDIT * I've just read 'similar spec'. Phew.

I didn't bother sticking anything on the end of my injectors because I didn't want to break the old ones. The car runs perfectly.

I agree; I suspect, like my mate and his Corrado, you'll be seeing this problem again.

Only one Ferrari?! Pah...peasant :) -
My MFA shows an average of about 28mpg with mostly a mixture of town and B-road driving. It works out to a real-world 31-32mpg though. Quite crap considering the (lack of) performance available.

I just kept seeing VW Beetle for 12 and then it came to me in a flash! I never would have got the Porsche 914 or the Rolls Royce though.

Only 7, 9, 10 and 14 to go!

37/50 and stuck

Obviously it would 'work' for a normally aspirated engine but it'd be next to pointless. I wonder if anyone's ever put it into practice with before/after dyno runs.

I'm sure Roo's right. Here are some pics...

What I'm looking for is as much information about the KE-Motronic overrun cut-off system as possible. This might include a diagram of the system components, descriptions and/or pictures of their location on the car, etc. Basically, anything you know! I've got an ongoing fault with a 9A-engine'd Corrado that I'm convinced is down to the faulty operation of the overrun-cutoff system. The problem is I can't find enough information about it to go fault finding. I did the Haynes manual tests on the differential pressure valve current loop last time I had the car here and got some odd results. I intend to look further into it this time. So far I've replaced the ECU temp switch, the ECU and the differential pressure valve, with no change. I've just take delivery of a complete fuel distributor assembly also, which will allow me to rule out the air-flow meter potentiometer and the fuel distributor itself. The car sometimes (increasingly) runs like it's in overrun cut-off mode from cold and drastically loses power/surges. When it's warmed up it's fine, which is hard for me to explain as I'm not sure what the ECU is doing differently between cold/warm running conditions. My head hurts just thinking about it. Thanks in advance :)

First, prove the temperature sender is working/not working by shorting the live feed to earth at the connector. If the temperature gauge rises towards full-scale (don't let it reach full-scale though as it may break) then it's a new temperature sender that's required. If not it's either a wiring fault, or a new gauge/set of clocks needed.

As far as I'm aware it's rare for the entire coil pack to die at the same time. I have a friend with an earlier distributor-engine'd Corrado VR6 with the same problem. He's had the entire fusebox and all relays replaced (long story) and that hasn't cured the problem.
-
I'm no VR6 expert but that doesn't sound right to me at all.

I'm pretty sure my 1.8 16v fan comes on at 105 degrees but I wouldn't swear to it; that may be the second speed though. It's very rare for it to get above 100 degrees even in traffic on a hot day. Are you sure water is circulating through your radiator and the thermostat isn't stuck closed? You could try removing the thermostat to see what happens.

trig's 94 OBD2 VR6 - New Wheels!!!! (...finally)

That's very good. I rarely top 60mph these days in my 1.8 16v and get an average of 31mpg with a fair mix of driving conditions. K-Jet really is crap. -
It looks like mine in the first pic! :)

Well Tiff Needell had one and he raves about them; that's good enough for me. I expect reliability is pretty good but it's clearly gonna cost if the worst happens.
