  1. Yeah, not the smartest move!
  2. The 200/300TDi Discovery engines are rock solid and have no real common problems that I'm aware of. The problem with a Land Rover is going to be finding a clean chassis/body of that age. If you can find a good 'un then I wouldn't rule the Land Rover out based on potential un-reliability. I've been running a 1986 N/A 2.5 Land Rover 90 for almost three years without any mechanical engine/drivetrain failures. However, a SWB Pajero is probably going to suit your needs better. The Disco has more ground clearance and is better off-road ability but if you're not planning on any hardcore off-roading then the superior build-quality of the Misubishi will make it a better drive I think...but then they're more expensive than a Disco. I guess it's a case of horses for courses (pun intended).
  3. It's certainly not a perfect system but what do you propose instead? Only crush the Renaults and leave uninsured VW owners alone? It's frightening that the old bill have to power to do that to a car but if it means less uninsured drivers on the road then maybe it's a good thing. As long as the system doesn't backfire and flag up legal drivers then it's all good. With respect to the crushing though, it doesn't seem very environmentally friendly to squash a perfectly good car. What's wrong with putting the decent cars through a Police auction?!
  4. Nothing needs to be disconnected on the KR or 9A to check the timing. The Haynes Passat manual just says to clear all fault codes on the 9A before starting. It just says: 1) Run the engine to normal operating temperature. 2) Stop the engine and connect a timing light. 3) Start car and allow to idle 4) Point timing light into access hole and line up flywheel mark with casing mark by turning the distributor. The timing mark is to the left of the '0' TDC mark at around 6 degrees BTDC. ...and that's it.
  5. I can't say for certain that new injectors will fix your problems. All I know is that my car used to start very badly if left for a couple of hours and would idle very high if caned for a while. Since replacing the injectors it starts and runs like a new one.
  6. It's very easy. They just pull out of the manifold and are screwed on to the fuel delivery pipe from the fuel distributor. It should only take five or ten minutes to change all four. Pushing them back into the manifold is the hardest part with the new o-rings fitted. Don't be surprised if the car starts and dies a few times after replacing them. It sometimes takes a few tries to open an injector that's been seated for a long time.
  7. Nice one...but that site is pretty well known on this forum. lol @ 'German'; it's a Russian site.
  8. Holy cow, that IS cheap. I'm not sure I'd put 'em in my Testarossa though!
  9. I have absolutely no idea what you should be checking next; it just seemed like you were a bit lonely in here :)
  10. I replaced the injectors in my 16v with standard ones from GSF (£137 all in) at 120k miles. The difference in starting and running was day and night. I looked into the Mercedes ones at the time and there was a reason I didn't bother...but I can't remember what it was!
  11. G-reg 16v...electric everything...some of it even works...
  12. They're not repeaters; they're marker lights. I appologise if you knew that and were just asking if anyone had used them as repeaters instead!
  13. Good info that. I'll read it when it's not almost 1:00am and I'm not full of vodka!
  14. You mean GIXXERUK? Apparently he was last online on March 24th.
  15. I've found the manual but I don't have the time to copy out the info at the moment as I'm off out in ten seconds. It may be quicker to rig up the ol' scanner and get you the info that way. I'll do my best to get it done around tea time (unless another helpful sole comes along in the mean time).

    Gearbox mount

You mean the Mk2 GTD? I don't think the Mk2 ever got a direct injection diesel engine. Maybe it's an isolated incident and I just got a mount from a dodgy batch. The rear mount was also pants though and is causing serious vibration.
  17. Sure they do. The 9A engine is covered in the May 1998 -> 1991 VW Passat manual (ISBN 1 85010 647 9). I'll have a look for my copy.

    Gearbox mount

I think the quality of GSF parts was higher a couple of years ago. A lot of the stuff I've had more recently has been utter cack.

    Gearbox mount

When I went to GSF a couple of months ago they didn't list a gearbox mount for the Corrado so I took the Mk2 Golf one instead as it looked the same. It fitted but lasted 150 miles. I guess it wasn't up to the job. You're better off going for a genuine one or a quality after-market part like Vibra-Technics.
  20. I assume undertaking is illegal as cars were only required to have a mirror fitted to the driver's side back in the day? I fail to see the problem with undertaking a car with two mirrors...and a driver that knows how to use them.
  21. I think I really like it purely due to the finish. I'd say it's got a good chance of winning that competition too after checking out the other entrants. Good luck with that dude.
  22. Blimey, that's not what I was expecting at all. I have to respect the amount of work you've put in. Was the work sponsored by Elecronic Arts?!
  23. The rad support looks pretty good but I reckon it'd be easy to make a car look tacky with too much gold plating. Do you have plans to plate much of the car in gold?
  24. If you're asking whether one of the pulleys on the water pump should be an idler pulley, then 'yes'. Is that what you were asking?! The later 1.8 16v engines and all 2.0 16v engines used a two-pulley power-steering system, which did away with the idler pulley on the water pump, and drove the power-steering pump directly from the crank pulley.
