So what's the story? Was it just abandoned or was it found at the residence of someone who was recently introduced to Mr. Cricket Bat?

The pipe to nowhere is likely to be the air intake.

I'm a litle confused. You bought a 1989 Corrado VR6 under the impression that it left the factory that way? With respect to the problem I'm not the best person to offer a diagnosis as I've never even owned a VR6. If VAG-COM is likely to be able to find the fault I wouldn't think that retro-fitting the diagnostic sockets is a major job - if you can find the loom. I assume they're connected straight to the ECU. With 34 views to this post I'm surprised nobody's replied. I guess they saw 'girl' in your name and curiosity took over!

My impression is that Clarkson is not in the same league as Tiff as far as driving skill goes. No better than Tiff? He could only dream of being that good.

Both shows are over-scripted (in my opinion) but I still watch them both, ultimately, because I'm a motoring enthusiast. I lean towards Fifth Gear though since I prefer the presenters. That Hammond really gets my goat and his Motorcycle News column is complete toss.

What happens when you're tired and driving down an unfamiliar, twisty road in the dark when it's raining and foggy? This. I think the scariest two minutes of my life passed that night while I was unable to get out of the car. I couldn't see a thing and wasn't even aware that I was upside down until I unclipped the seatbelt. After I took a minute to gather my thoughts I realised why I couldn't open the driver's door and escaped via the passenger door instead. It would have been just another sideways incident except the rear near-side wheel dropped into a pothole by the side of the road and flipped the car into a ditch. I'd only estimate the speed to be around 30mph but it was surprsingly violent. The seatbelt saved a lot of injury for sure. I called the Police and requested the 'Authorities Aware' sticker because people kept stopping to check nobody was in the car. I made sure I was breathalised at the scene too since I was on the way to a party...which I still went to and thoroughly enjoyed :)

Well the Audi A4 came in at number 55. Still looking for the 3 series. *EDIT* Ah, number 38. Best not mention that then :) It seems the BMW 3 series gave the Audi a slapping in the JD Power survey too and came third in the class.

How did the BMW 320 fair against the Audi A4 in the Top Gear Survey? Hopefully favourably.

Don't be so sure...

This reminds me of the time my mum filled her Leon's expansion tank up with screen wash.

You bought a Corrado to save money? That's a new one :) Im sure I recognise that car from the For Sale section on this very forum. Who owned it last?

I'd call that pretty healthy boost!

I feel that the word 'epic' is somewhat over-used on Top Gear!

the effect of short distance driving on engines

As far as I'm aware, the 'mayo' people look for is mainly to indicate headgasket failure allowing water and coolant to mix with the oil. The condensation caused by short journeys reacts in much the same way with the oil on the filler cap. -
Corrado VR6 exclusive...... (update 04/2007)

I read 'South End' and though 'Essex'! -
That version of Juiced was a pre-release copy by a fair while though and it wasn't finished.

At least it's good, honest, light panel damage rather than a bodged up hard front-ender. I know words are cheap but I'd still buy it post-repair if I was in the market since it'll be mint again. When I bought my Corrado I was well aware that it'd had two fairly large accidents in its life - one requiring replacement of every panel on the driver's side and a fairly hefty impact in the front near-side corner. However, they happened a long time before I bought it and it was still clean and drove ok. That's about all a car has to do to achieve my required standard! The path it took to get there is largely irrelevant as long as it's honest. -
F33D ME....wonder what that's registered as... *EDIT* Apparently it's unregistered and unavalable on the DVLA site. There are S33D ME and W33D ME though at £250 and £399 respectively :)

Oh....my....God.... I don't think you'll suffer too badly as a result of the insurance clain, especially if your NCB is protected. Is there a chance it'll be written off (and do you secretly hope it is)? -
Better than mein Deutsch!

I read the title as 'dummest (sic)'. Was that an intentional error or just a somewhat ironic faux pas?

But they're my favourite bits!

Why do manufacturers insist on putting big plastic covers over engines now? I don't understand why they can't just make an engine bay look tidy without it. Honda manage it with cars like the Civic Type-R and even the CRX all those years ago.
-
I'm sure most people understand what you're saying and I think very little of this thread is directed at you personally. It seems like more of a G40 appreciation society annual meet! To be honest you'd never know for sure until you actually set up a race under controlled contitions, which is unlikely to happen unless you're interested in setting up a meet at Santa Pod for instance. A short blast on public roads doesn't really prove anything but the power/weight figures imply a fair amount.

The engine didn't melt, but the high engine speed and low airflow caused enough heat to melt the sound deadening material on the underside of the bonnet....it would appear. It would also appear that the high temps. took everything plastic or rubber in the engine bay with it!
