That's very interesting as I'm usually very well attuned to 'noises and happenings' when I drive, but can't say I've noticed this; and yes my ABS is in full working order. About how far down the road are you when this happens Kev? Armed with that I'm inclined to go out for a play.

Ho ho, I need two of those stickers

For what its worth I think this noise is most likely caused by worn friction plate, mine was pretty thin (nearly lost all the cross grooving) when it came out with 123,525 miles on it. Mine tended to make the noise more often when pulling away up-slope, less frequent on the flat so I reckon that's indicative of more load on the plate. Operating the clutch pedal with engine off, or on and taking up drive, is completely silent now. By the way, I would also have thought that the ABS would have finished its self checks by the time you'd engaged gear, mirrored, signalled and safely manoeuvred LOL Incidentally, I didn't change the clutch because of the 'wooot' noise (Note to Mods, is this going in the tech terms glossary by the way?) but because of the awful racket caused by a fracturing and bent release arm catching on the pressure plate cover - you could hear me comin a mile off. Its a joy to own :)

Can't see without taking the engine top covers off, but fortunately have a photo from my clutch job (yes, promise to do a write up soon...) The front wire is Pink/black, the rear one is brown. HTH

Mine had also started to make the strange 'groaning' noise on take up too, a few months before it started clattering. Not sure what caused the groaning as I replaced the whole clutch assy, release arm (it was fractured and bending), release bearing, ball pin & spring and slave cyl. New Redline MT90 in the box and the clutch is super light, quiet and the changes silky smoth.

OK, we know your cars, where did your names come from???

wanted something short, names chris, got 2 corrados, simple -
OK folks so I've got the VR going again with new clutch and timing chain gear, and MT90 in the box. She runs really nice the clutch is just so light now, and changes are slicker than a slick thing; now just got to get the left leg camber reset on Friday before some 'proper driving'. The only snag is that my starter now seems to "drag" once the engine has caught and makes a horrendous graunchy wailing noise  Not very good for the image!! Anyone else experienced this, more to the point has anyone got a cure for this? (And yes its been cleaned and moving parts high temp greased but it still makes a racket) Cheers

Whahay  Good news at last. Just got my broadband up an running today, bit quicker than dial up - thanks to Andi (& Patrick), though have a snag with recieving email which hopefully will resolve tomorrow. But better news, the VR fired up first turn of the key (after winding her without ign to get the oil round the innards first) at 1448 hrs yesterday. She lives and breathes :D . Just got to fully tighten the drive shafts and refit the wheel arch inners tonight, wash the workshop dust off, then ready to take her out for a run tomorrow :D :D :D Now I might get round to writing about the job ....

Too much contrast against the red IMHO, but maybe its the camera (you know they never lie), might look better in zee flesh

some sort of contraceptive device?

Riley, you say about having to fish about for 2nd. Have a look under the gaiter to see if the travel limiting circlip has fallen off the transverse pivot pin. Makes a BIG difference

Hi all, well in response to the sensible suggestion on my engine thread I have just spoken to Gavin Scott at Delta Oil and ordered 4 Qrts of this (have to do them both don't I). For that amount I got free carriage and also CCGB discount - £58.84 all in. I asked him if he ever got any feedback and he said he had from you Andy. If I ever get mine running again, watch this space for comments.
-
So that's firsted, seconded and thirded, so I'm guessing 4th gear'll be good as well

Yep, deffo to tell the alarm the boot is/isn't secure. I watched hawk eyed while the guy fitted my alarm to make sure he did a good job; he did.

And that Mark Williams series "The Coneheads" - hysterical

What else can I say. Good to see you here and love your car. Know where you're coming from, selling just ain't an option.
-
Would Eskimo bootees do it for you? (and I was thinking maybe 60/70s? but rather heavier than DM)
-
Hey Kev, why haven't we thought of this one before - bored and flowed ISVs to improve air flow volume :)
-
Bum, minor confusion when ordering over the phone. The temp sensor block quoted above is only 1/3 of the assy, the transfer pipe adaptor (021121133D) is £9.42, and the thermostat adaptor (021121121A) is also £9.42. Then there's seals and new screws to hold it all together etc..... so actually cost me nearer £50. Oh well, at least it shouldn't leak when I finally get her started. Front body members back early next week hopefully, so fingers crossed. Thanks for the words of encouragement Stephen, I seem to be lurching from one minor hiccup to the next at the moment.
