Any other R/C aircraft nerds out there
corradophil replied to corrado_sunderland's topic in Off-topic Chat
Never flown RC planes, but also used to race R/C cars. I started with a Tamiya Vanquish, then Kyosho Optima Mid, then Yokomo Works '92. I still have all my R/C cars, which includes a few more than the three mentioned. -
Do you have the leather handbrake handle still? If in reasonable condition I would like it please, well dependent on cost!

National Day 2012: Sunday 20 May: Brooklands
corradophil replied to Tempest's topic in Event Announcements & Discussion
Yesterday was really good. I was there in my Golf. I am currently fitting ITBs and Megasquirt to my Corrado so it is off the road, but I'm already keen to bring mine next year. -
That would be great if it is not too much trouble. I have been doing some reading and it appears there is a difference between early and late cars. I presume the change over was at the same point as the instrument design was updated. Early ones can be driven directly from coil -ve. Late ones (which mine is) have a feed direct from the ECU. Apparently the green cable to the ignition amplifier can be used as a signal for the rev counter. This is the thread where that info came from http://www.msextra.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=101&t=35301 ---------- Post added at 9:46 AM ---------- Previous post was at 9:44 AM ---------- I have seen that diagram, but no mention of what pin from the ECU, so I will take a look at my MS to see what if anything is connected to pin 29.

I spent 5 weeks in NZ in 2001, and only saw one Corrado the whole time I was there. It was white and in Auckland - Could have been yours.
-
Mine is a late one, and is fed from the ECU. I may be able to do a 'bolt on' for megasquirt, but I would still need to know what input voltage to use. I don't want to kill my rev counter, hence doing lots of research beforehand.

:( Has nobody done this?

National Day 2012: Sunday 20 May: Brooklands
corradophil replied to Tempest's topic in Event Announcements & Discussion
Somehow, I have completely missed this until now. My membership has lapsed, and my Corrado is off the road temporarily for some upgrades, but I would still like to come along. So if I want to come into the event I can pay for membership on the gate is that correct? Should I bring my membership number with me? If I want to bring friends, do they need to join too? -
I like that. I'm a big fan of hotrods and muscle cars. My dream garage includes a 68 or 69 Camaro, or possibly a notch back Mustang, oh and maybe a nice Dodge Charger. This is one of my favourite cars that turns up at North Weald occasionaly (and the reason why I like nothch back Mustangs).
-
20 years! What to you usually race? Yeah the next one is June 17th.
-
I'll probably go to the next one. I usually go to them all.
-
I wish I had gone now, would have been good to take a look around your corrado. Looks very good. Last year I got 15 secs dead at 100mph at North Weald in my Mk4 Golf 1.8t. My Corrado is currently in bits and part way through a Megasquirt and ITB conversion.
-
I'm converting my 9a to run on Megaquirt and ITBs. The MS ECU does not have a rev counter feed like the original Bosch unit, so I need to find an alternative feed. On other cars I have used the low tension -ve connection on the coil to give the signal to the rev counter. Can the Corrado rev counter take it's feed directly from coil -ve?

Hi from another Essex member:)

Am I mistaken or didn't you sell up and buy a sensible newish car a few years ago? A Mk4 Golf diesel IIRC, you ended up getting another Corrado after that. I sold my Corrado and bought a Mk4 GTI and ended up at Stage 2 spec ~ 230bhp, but it still could not replace a Corrado, and in the end I was lucky enough to buy mine back. I think short term you would be happy with selling up and being rid of the hassle, but give it a year or so and you'd start looking at Corrados in the for sale section.

anyone been to see this one or know anythign about it?
corradophil replied to hyland770's topic in General Car Chat
I spotted this on the A127 near Basildon at a car sales place - I didn't stop to look, but the photos make it look nice. This was a few weeks ago, and I have not seen it there since. -
What was number one when your Corrado was new?
corradophil replied to Purple Tom's topic in General Car Chat
01/06/93 Ace of Base, All that she wants. I have an Ace of Base album somewhere - I might have to dig that out -
Late Headlight Switch....New Batch Delivered. Fit All Corrado's.
corradophil replied to 8vMatt's topic in Forum Group-Buys
Mine arrived on Thursday. I fitted it at the weekend. I'm really pleased with the quality, thanks for organising this Matt. -
It's not good if the engine is not reaching normal temperature. With an ABF thermostat (genuine VW ones anyway) the engine will run cooler than with a thermostat for a 9A. So I would recommend getting one for a 9A, which should be the engine code for your engine. The ABF was fitted to Mk3 Golfs.
-
A genuiine ABF thermostat will make it run cooler, if you want it to be hotter get one for the 9A.
-
IIRC the thermostat should open at 87 deg C, so it could be just a case of the thermostat nor closing. Mine has a OEM ABF thermostat at the moment which opens at 82 deg C, but I am finding it takes a long time to reach that.
