    Sunroof!

It would be far cheaper and easier to repair your existing sunroof, welding the hole up is a bit extreme, plus you will need to consider how to trim the inside of it. Repair it and you'll also benefit from having a sunroof, which is nice when the weather is good. 8)
  3. Good thread, I'm sure it will be great when you have finished it. Are you doing all the work yourself? If so, well done for picking up the skills at such a young age. Looks like you need a bulk order of Nitromors, I used to do bodywork for a living, and one job I did was a bare metal respray on a 1968 Camaro. I had to strip the entire shell. Trouble is, once it is stripped you need to get a move on so it doesn't rust.
  4. Just another thought on the lambda. Rather than water causing electrical shorts, I wonder if the the sudden temperature change has damaged it? It would be very hot, being screwed into the cat, and submerging it in water which in this weather is going to be around 0 deg C will cause it to cool very quickly. It would only take a small crack on one of the connections to it to cause it to go open circuit and act as if it's not there at all. Just to add to that, I would not alter the ignition timing. How can water rotate the distributor? Answer - It can't.
  5. If you unplugged the lambda sensor and it made no difference to the running of the engine, surely that suggests the lambda is doing nothing. The Lambda is one of the the lowest positioned electrical items and therefore likely to be one of the first to come into contact with the water. You say it smells of petrol - Overfueling due to fauly lambda sensor maybe?
  6. Perfect looking Corrado. I think I remember meeting you and looking round the C at the Ardliegh Crown in Colchester, when we had a Corrado meet. Funny seeing it all the way over there now.
  7. That's an amaising transformation. I always respected you for doing everything yourself, but didn't like the styling, now I really like it. Well done 8)
  8. Things moved on at the weekend. I managed to change the leaking core plug, which looks like it was damaged when originaly fitted. The area where the hole is looks like its been chipped or warn down, the rest of the plug was perfect, so I only replaced that one, as they are a nightmare to do with the engine in. I also did a compression test, even when cold it was excellent, all 4 cylinders between 13 and 13.5 bar - not bad for 200k miles. Next job is to remove the steel panel under the radiator which is really rusty. I'm going to get it shot blasted and powdercoated or repainted. After that, I need to change the heater matrix. Oh and I've also won a JL Audio sub on ebay to fit the Audioscape box I fitted. The person I bought it back off replaced the JL sub with a Vibe sub which is too larger diameter to fit the box correctly.
  9. The Minichamps ones are very nice - I have a red one. It's more detailed than the Schabak one. Also I have 3 Welly pull back Corrados - not the best quality, but they're cool as they are Corrados. Finally I have a 1:18 Revel C VR6 which is very nice. Ooh and I forgot, I have a 1:10 Nitro R/C Corrado which I sprayed Green to match my real one.

    2.0 16v??

Mine made 162 bhp and 152 Ibft with KR inlet cam, Magnex cat back exhaust, flowed head and manifolds by me.
  11. Sooo many welcome messages, thqank-you  The first thing that made me like Corrados was the styling. I was already into Veedubs, having owned a Mk1 Polo, Mk2 Polo and a Mk1 Golf GTI, but I wanted something a little more refined and special - The C fitted the bill perfectly, however I could not afford one and ended up buying a 1990 Mk2 GTI 8v, which I kept for 5 years, and it was great, but still not a C. Eventually I bought the Green 16v and brought it up to the standard I wanted. During my first 5 years of ownership I rebuilt practically everything except the gearbox, and the whole exterior was repaired and painted apart from the roof. I fitted G60 280mm front brakes, FK suspension, Poly bushes everywhere possible at the front, new oem rear beam bushes, Audioscape sub, amp and high quality 5 1/4" components up front, uprated headlamp loom, oil pressure and volt console gauge pod, lightened flywheel, KR inlet cam, flowed head and matched flowed inlet and exhaust manifolds, Magnex exhaust, very rare Azev H wheels, goodridge flexy brake hoses - the list goes on and on. Whilst I owned it, I learned how good a well set up C is to drive, and enjoyed having something different to the average car on the road, I see more Ferraris on the road than Corrados, so they are very individaul. All this fun, individuality and style combined with simple MK2 Golf mechanicals is a very good alround package I guess, plus it is far far cheaper than a Ferrari. I plan to keep my Mk4 GTI, which I sold the Corrado to fund, it is a very capable car, with a better quality interior, better performance - mine has dbw throttle and a KO3s turbo and Revo stage 1, and more refinement, but it does not have that special appeal or X factor that the Corrado has. I still can't quite beleive I have it back again
  12. There is definately something about them that makes you want to always own one. Thanks for the welcomes. At lunchtime I bought a new heater matrix, thermostat, core plugs and anti freeze. I'll fit these and fill up with water and run it up, and look for more leaks. If all is well, it will get a major flush through and fresh water/anti freeze mix. I Still cannot beleive it is back :)
  13. My signature and avatar are photos of it, I'll try and upload some showing its current condition. Walesy, thanks for the welcome  Since selling it I have really missed it, and regreted letting it go. I originaly sold it to a mate, but he quickly sold it on to somone else who lives locally to me. I've tried several times over the last 6 months to get it back, but had until yesterday been unsuccesful. Yesterday I got a text saying it is for sale and a quick sale is needed, so I got the cash from every source I could find and went and bought it back straight away. My mate towed me back using my Golf, and even just being towed was a great feeling, although I kept feeling like I want to bang it into 2nd and floor it past.
  14. Yesterday I bought the Corrado back  It's in a sorry state - won't even hold coolant as one of the core plugs is leaking at the back of the block. Also needs a heater matrix, and then I can run it up and find out if there is any further damage to the engine. The sunroof is broken, and there are a few stickers on it, oh and the VW badge on the grill is brush painted red, and it has a stick on chrome G on the back, the owner wanted it to be a GTI, but the T and I fell off. The interior is very dirty, and finally there are a few bits of bodywork which need sorting. This is going to be a long project to bring it back to how it should be, but I'm so chuffed to have it back :D
  15. So how many people have asked you why you bought a plate that says F*&k it? Looks realy smart. DS2500 are very good aren't they.
  16. Its been a while since I've posted here, however I 'may' be buying back my Corrado. I went to look at it on Sunday, and the current owner advised he had to remove the uprated wiring loom, because the dim dip function was not there. I.e. once ignition is on you either have dipped or main beam only. He could not get it through the mot without reverting back to standard wiring. I never had a problem with it, so has the law changed???
  17. Decided to rebuild the N/S strut last night, and could find nothing wrong. The damper works exactly as it should, the spring isn't hitting anything. I'm out of ideas now. :(
  18. It's been a while since I last posted on here, having sold the Corrado last year, but I'm hoping you can help me out with this one. My Mk4 Golf 1.8t has a knocking noise from the front N/S when the front N/S wheel goes over drain covers, small bumps etc. It has 1 month old Koni STR T suspension (uprated dampers and -35mm springs) and I've tried the following: New top mounts and bearings. New anti-roll bar mount bushes. The clearnance between the anti-roll bar and driveshafts is around 60mm. These definately have not hit each other, even the dirt on both components is unmarked. I removed both anti-roll bar drop links, made sure the anti-roll bar was not able to knock and tested it, but the knocking was still the same, so it is not anti-roll bar related. New lower ball joint. New track rod complete with track rod end. New Audi TT rear bushes for the front wishbones. (Front bushes are showing no signs of damage. Checked every bolt related to suspension and steering is tight - all are fine. Removed dog bone mount and checked this is ok (I fitted powerflex bushes last year). Checked tighteness of the N/S gearbox mount bolts which are accessible with the airbox removed. All CV joint gaitors are good, and the the backlash in the drivshafts is normal. I cannot feel any play in the wheel bearing. The exhaust is clear of all bodywork etc, and all mounts are in good condition including the centre one which I've seen broken on a few of these now. All bodywork in this area appeas as new - I cannot find any broken spot welds or other damage. The next thing I will try is swapping the front struts left to right to see if the knocking is strut related. The O/S is perfectly silent, even when driving over rough ground. So, what have I missed? I have spent a lot of time (and money) trying to locate the cause of this, but I cannot find a thing wrong.
  19. If you go for a Mk4 make sure you get one with DBW throttle, this will either be an AUM or AUQ engine fitted with the K03s turbo instead of the old K03. As long as you get one post 2000, I think it will be AUM or AUQ. If you are going to modify your next car, it may worth spending the extra on the LCR, an LC with a remap and no other mods will be around 212bhp, whereas and LCR remapped is somewhere near 260bhp. LCRs look better in my opinion too. :D
  20. Arghhhh, just wrote a long response and clicked save instead of submit, and I am yet to find where saved posts go  Anyway basically I was saying dog bone bushes are a must, i have Forge ones on my Golf 1.8t which has stage 1 revo. The throttle response is alot smoother. The 312mm brakes are good for every day use and some fast driving, although in my old LC I had them fade a few times. I am about to upgrade my Golf 288mm front brakes to 312mm with Ferodo DS2500 pads, hopefully these will be a good set up.
  21. My Leon had the boot latch problem, it happened about 5 times over the year I owned it, and the last time was when I was about to get the money from its new owner - great timing. The water in the footwell usually comes through the door, just like on a Corrado or any old VW when the plastic membrane is not sealed properly. On Leons and new VWs the plastic is replaced by a pressed steel panel which bolts to the door, and has a rubber seal all the way round it. The rubber seal over time starts to leak. I sealed mine by loosening the fixing bolts, cleaning the seal and running a small bead of silicon sealer around the joining faces and then tightening up the bolts again. I did this on 3 of the Leon doors, plus 1 door on a friends Leon, and 1 door on my current Mk4 Golf.
  22. Stan 24v, How did you manage to end up with a 4 Motion and Leon Cupra? Obviously the Leon and Golf 4 (I've had a Leon and got a Mk4) are quite similar, but how do the engines compare? If you had to have only one, what would you choose out of the LC and 4Mo?
  23. Arggg, just written a reply, and then saved it instead of submiting, now I can't find it anywhere :( I've got a Revo'd Mk4 Golf GTI, its faster, more comfortable, has similar fuel consumption, similar tax and insurance costs, but it is nowhere near as exclusive as the C, it was great driving something that rare. I think an S3 or Leon Cupra R may be the sensible choice, but it won't have that special feeling the C has.
  24. I often dream I still have my Corrado, then wake up and know I don't :( I think I need a get rich quick scheme to make a bit of money to buy it back.
  25. A mate has an Ibiza Cupra TDI 160bhp, which is a lot closer to the Corrado driving experience than my Golf, but the interior is a little cheap looking, and I'm not too keen on the exterior styling.
