I think the better choice for me would have been to keep the C, and spend around 2.5k on an Audi A4 TDI as an everyday hack, that way I get comfort, economy & toys such as A/C, but still have a car to have fun in and be proud of. I just hope you don't live to regret selling it, because it would be a lot of work and money to get back to where you are.

True, it is very hard to find a replacement which can match the qualities the Corrado has. Having said that, I have had a Leon Cupra in the past, so I knew roughly what to expect, but it is worse than I thought. I have considered selling the Golf and getting an S3, but I fear I will find that pretty dull too. Out of interest, double-6s what would your choice be for a Corrado replacement for around £5k - £7k? The only other car I think I should have looked at more seriously is the BMW 3 series, however I think that may not have grabbed my interest like the Corrado. A friend has a classic Impreza WRX, which is nice, but I could not live with the Jap interior, so that was out of the question for me.

Deffo mate, but its time to move on. Nothing looks as good as a C though, thats the big problem Im having at the mo :( Hmmm, well I have moved on, and now regret it :( I'm now driving a Revo'd Mk4 Golf GTI 1.8t, although its faster, it is boring nowhere near as good to look at, and about as special as a Mondeo. To make things worse it is nowhere near as problem free as the Corrado was, it cost more than twice what I got for the C, and is costing way more to run. I'm very tempted to sell the Golf and get another Corrado, but I just don't fancy starting from scratch again. With the benefit of hindsight, I think you are making a big mistake in letting it go, particularly after all you've done to it.

G60 Front brake prices - disc, caliper, carrier
corradophil replied to StuartFZR400's topic in Drivetrain
StuartFZR400, I bought second hand callipers and carriers from a Mk3 Golf GTI in a breakers for £100 all in. I'd certainly buy the carriers second hand if I was you, even if you go for brand new callipers. -
herisites, Have a look here http://babelfish.altavista.com/ You can enter web pages which you want to translate, it makes the occasional error, but its very good. Some of the translations will make you laugh. I was looking on German Ebay for a Porsche 911 flat 6 engine for his T25 van, and it came up with strange things about "Engine farms"

Oh stop it, I don't want to be hearing that the C is a more enjoyable car than an S3, particularly as I'm still considering a TDI A3 or Mk4 Golf, they are probably going to be even more dull. I used to find my Leon Cupra a bit dull too, but it was a superb car for comfort, performance and handling. I now have a deposit on the C, so I'm going to start seriously looking for a car over the weekend. One thing which bothers me about the S3 over the lower spec 1.8t models and TDIs is the 4 wheel drive. How reliable is this, are there any known issues with it, or am I worrying about nothing?
-
Looks like I'm moving a step nearer to being possibly being an S3 owner, I should be getting a deposit on the C tonight. :( :D :?

All I can think of is wheel bearings or tyres which have worn with flat spots. I had this happen and it sounded identical to a buggered wheel bearing.
-
I have been seriously considering a TDI, partcularly the A3 TDI Sport or SE with the 130bhp PD engine. Can't help being tempted by something a little more fun though, hense S4, and then realistically the S3. Still no deposit on the Corrado yet, so untill that happens it is all just an idea. To make things more awquard I have just knackered 2 of my wheels in a pothole, so I need to either get them fixed or replaced before I can do anything.
-
So, a little thirsty, but it does seem the ideal progression from the Corrado. I breifly considered an S4, but that would definately be too thirsty for my liking, mind you a 2.7 V6 twin turbo is very appealing.

I've had an offer on my car, which I'm pretty sure I will accept. As a replacement I am considering an Audi A3, Mk4 Golf or Seat Leon Cupra various engine options including 1.8t, pd 130 & 150. My budget is around £6k -£7k, I can't help noticing that this puts me close to cheaper S3 money, seen a few between £7k and £8k and I'm seriously considering one, but one question I have is, how do you find the fuel consumption? I'm averaging a calculated 31mpg in my Corrado and used to get 29mpg in my Leon Cupra which I sold a a year and a half ago. I do around 300 miles per week, so fuel consumption is an issue for me.

diamondblack, Looks like you got a nice one there. I've still not come to a definate conclusion. The person who's interested has now had a propper look and a drive and tells me he definatley wants it, but untill I see some £££ nothing is definate. On Sunday I went to look at a 51 plate Audi A3 SE TDI (130 BHP). Very nice car still owned by the orginal owner, but in need of some TLC due to not being moved since March last year. It's silver with alcantara interior, Zenon h/lamps etc. Book price for one at average mileage, which is around 50K is £6800, he's asking £6600, but having done some serious research it could potentialy cost £1200 to get back up to scratch, which includes a whole load of service items, due to it being left, the repair of a scuff on one of the wheel arches and getting it through an MOT, which it currently does not have. The car is slowly turning green on the outside with mould, but luckily the inside is stilll clean and fresh.

How nice is that!! I'd love one of these, the nearest i'm likely to get is on GT4

Sounds like microblistering, caused buy painting in a damp atmosphere, or water getting into the air supply. If it is, the affected paint needs to be removed and the panel re-painted.
-
Thats pretty good money, looks really nice being standard too. I don't know, I'd love to keep it, and get a daily driver, which I did for a year with the Leon Cupra, but I struggled to justify the expense of two cars. I would say there is a good chance I'd want to own a Corrado again, but only as a weekend car.

I've been considering selling for ages, I did try to sell it about a year and a hlaf ago when I also had a Leon, if it sold, I'd have kept the Seat, but it didn't so the Seat went. I've not tried to sell it since the Seat went, its not advertised anywhere, but I do feel I've outgrown it a bit and I'm doing around 15k miles per year in it. I think I'll have a chat to the person who wants it and try and come to a deal for maybe a little over £2k. If we come to a deal, it's going to be hard letting it go.

Just edited my first post, its a 93 Kreg. Hmm, so opinion so far is, I would not be a fool to sell it for that - maybe more of a fool not to take the opportunity.

In short my Corrado 2.0 16v is mint inside and out including the VDO gauge pod in the centre console, no dents/rust, it has a gas flowed head, KR inlet cam, magnex exhaust, Alpine HU, amp and JL12W0 sub in Audioscape box, and some pretty decent components in the front. It also has a lightened flywheel 30k old clutch. Everything works, even the heated mirrors, sunroof and spoiler! It has polyeurethane bushes all round at the front and new oem rear bushes. The only downside really is the mileage which is currently at 172500. I've been considering selling it for ages - I've owned it for almost 5 years, and want something a bit easier for daily use i.e. Leon Cupra (had one of these for a year), Mk4 Golf GTI, Audi A3 1.8t. Obviously I'll need to put some more money towards any of these. Is £2000 enough??? Oh yeah its a 1993 K reg

Advice on lumpy, erratic 2.0 16v - being a bit crap again..
corradophil replied to Jim's topic in Engine Bay
You need an ammeter (I used my digital multimeter), and some cable to wire it inline with the differential pressure regulator IIRC. It's been a couple of years since I set mine this way, so its not fresh in my memory, but I will scan the relevant info from the manual and upload it if you want? With it set as per the manual my cars emmisions are very clean, and similar to my dads Mk4 Golf GTI and it drives well, and produced the power in my signature set using this method, so it can't be far wrong. -

Yes 6 deg BTDC is correct. The timing mark to use assuming you cannot adjust the timing light is the rectangular shaped lug. It's a shame you don't live nearer, I'd happily set yours up the same as I set mine to see if it sorts it. I set mine according to the manual for both idle mixture and ignition timing. MFA 2 on mine is hovering between 29-30mpg. A few months ago I got it up to 30.6, but I was trying to save fuel. My journey to work is about 15 mins of B road and 15 mins of windy country lanes, plus I usually do some shorter journeys in the evenings and weekends. On a decent motorway run I usually get about 36mpg on MFA 1 assuming I don't boot it too much. The VR6 I mentioned above was showing around 25mpg on MFA 1 the whole time I had it. -

My MPG is pretty reasonable, the overall average shown on the mfa is always between 29 - 31 mpg. A few months ago as a test, I reset the mfa and filled the tank to the brim. Then when I next filled up, noted how many miles I had done and how much fuel was required to fill it to the brim again i.e. how much had been used since last fill up. Based on this the mfa said 30.5mpg and I calculated 29.5mpg. Interesting how you find VR6's more economical. I had a P reg OBD 2 Golf VR6 for a few days last year, and that was noticably worse on fuel than my Corrado. -
Mines on 172k at the moment, everything works and it never lets me down.

gsbellew, That picture has been my desktop wallpaper at work for months. I've seen it run at the pod quite a few times.
