Not sure whether this is of any use to you, as it's from my LHD US-spec G60 engine bay (only some bits are in slightly different place  ). pic thumbnailed-vr6storm Re: Charger: Yup, would agree, send it down to G-Werks, or better even, visit them. I was there for 8 hours, but somehow time flew by :D Tempest

Worse: At shows like UVD you actually just keep it raised for show puposes, as the old saying goes "Spoilers up!" Tempest

Audi quattro Coupe as well for me, the old boxy one that is, would sit nicely alongside my Mk1 Rocco :D I'm getting worried now, up to now I just thought, all this talk of getting a Mk4 Golf was just palaver, but if searches on Autotrader have even taken place ... worried about the Rado  Tempest

Agreed valuations seem to be getting more and more of a marketing tool, as I'm currently in a sort of dispute with HIC regarding the value on my Mk1 Rocco. The valuer rightfully said that he gets done by Ford Escort chavs declaring their rustbuckets to be worth millions, and yet that attitude is then automatically assumed to be prevalent amongst all car drivers  I wish they'd just send out a valuer to actually look at the car rather than rely on pictures, but that would, of course be way too expensive, apart from the fact that the actual valuer that looked at my Mk1 Rocco when it got rear-ended by some stupid Nissan driver coming back from Utterly Veedubberly 2 years ago (I'll never forget the scene of damage, and the desire for wanting to inflict serious damage to the Nissan driver) was acomplete w**nker claiming the repair of a highly customised Rieger rear bumper was similar to that of a Ford Focus  Goes to show that even the so-called specialist insurers are only after our money using nice marketing tools and empty promises half the time, but when it comes to paying out, our treasured vehicles are treated like everyone else's cars get treated by all the mainstream insurers, i.e. like sh*t  Tempest

No, definitely not compared to my short shifters in my 2 Roccos, the Rado feels like rowing a boat  Tempest

Move to, e.g., Aberdeen, where my LHD US-import Rado (something most insurances don't like at all) only cost the previous owner £300 FC  Coventry, as we know, is a sh*thole for crime, driving up insurance prices  Tempest

Didn't help, of course, that someone all the way from Coventry for a G-Lader rebuild on his Corrado recently asked just that question, "Thinking of getting a Rado again?" Addictive or what ? 8) Tempest

My business colleague has recently bought a rather "boring" looking Audi 100 Avant. The little give-away is that very understated S4-badge on the front and rear, meaning only one thing, when you see it in your rear view mirror: Move over!! This baby has got the 20 valver TQ engine, rated at 230 bhp standard, tunable up to 500 bhp (as Audi did). Yes it's expensive to run, as my mate found out, like somewhere between 16 and 19 mpg (city traffic) , the power steering pump will set him back a hefty 300-400 Quid (as there's a top screw with rubber ring that keeps on exploding, result is nice green liquid all over the engine bay, soaking bonnet mat, and creetching pump  ). But it's fun to drive, as he demonstrated again just tonight bringing me home. Put your foot down 8) Tempest

Pretty much a straight screw in using a 22mm size spanner, I seem to remember (it's been a few months ago that I did mine). Yes, the thing sits at a rather awkward angle (facing almost upward), hence it's a bit tricky to get at, but mine came out fine without rounding off or anything. The same hold for both the ceramic and the metal cats (swapped my ceramic cat one against a metall one :D ). The probe was from a Golf Mk3, just soldered the wires onto the original wiring, kept track of the colour coding in my Bentley, done. Tempest

Erm, they're alright actually  , just a bit G40-oriented  . Nah, everyone's OK down there, just that Darren was the one doing my rebuild :D Tempest

Same here: Tried the Powerboost spray on my then 19-year old DX engine in my Mk2 Storm Rocco, can't say it made any difference other than that one of the clips holding the downpipe to the manifold fell off shortly after  That was probably not down to having used the Powerboost stuff. I then went on to try some injector cleaner on the poor Mk2 Storm Rocco DX-testbed (it was on special offer at my Oscotts car factor), again not noticing any real difference. Needless to say, I stopped using all of that stuff after one trial. Tempest

Yes, it was my turn now to travel down from Coventry trying to avoid the horrid London rush hour traffic jams, that seem to spread across the southern country during the morning hours like cancer, to the holy caverns of G-Werks and PSD to meet no one less than Darren (after a little help from Darren to get into the actual 5 Nursery's address once I had arrived on the correct road with nothing but nurseries along it, and the next door nursery never ever having heard of G-Werks or the 5 Nursery's address  ) Top man, top job, top entertainment and information, in a nutshell excellent stuff, despite a devastating start: My Rado decided to play silly games, 2 ba**rd bolts didn't want to come out holding the G-Lader to the mounting bracket on the air filter box end, taking lots of pursuasion and 2 hours to get them out using Torx bits, lots of hammering and a pneumatic drive  This was down to the "excellent" garage as used by the previous owner of my Rado when he last had the charger rebuilt; that garage had decided not to use any anti-seizure paste or aything  After that it was fortunately plain sailing, despite my Lader having blown oil before the rebuild  , no damage had been done to the shaft or any other bits. Jabba's finest copmponents (and labour practices, ie. pushing seals in too deeply  ) were identified in the rebuild  and suitably disposed of  Whilst there I also saw Bananaman's Rado in the rear of the workshop and the man himself re-inserting his engine later that afternoon, and Steve from PSD doing a rebuild on a G40 for a Polo (lots of G40-vs-G60 jokes followed  ). After a whopping 8 hours of labour (or graft) another happy Rado-owner with a freshly rebuilt Lader (me :D ) left the famous (slightly exhausted, no doubt  ) Darren at G-Werks HQ on his way home, keeping that foot from sinking too deeply onto the accelerator  Folks, I can only recommend Darren ! Me? I'm as usual going to the only remaining pure Rocco/Rado meet, Roadstar 2005, in the Netherlands, usually clashes with Wörthersee ... Tempest

Oops, sorry forgot to include the URL in my first post mentioning it  http://www.web-cars.com/detail/phorum/read.php?f=1&i=19678&t=19337 Just to clarify my possibly misleading statement The first bit refers to how to treat the paint once I've T-cut off this Diamondbrite, the second sentence refers to the Diamondbrite stuff itself 8) Just in case that wasn't clear  Tempest

OK, just had a quick word with my own trusted bodyshop in Coventry regarding Jewelultra's Diamondbrite, his reaction was: "Get if off straight away, you'll have to T-cut it off !!! Then re-polish with Autoglym Super Resin, and re-wax. It's good in the short term, but in the long term it eats into your paint !" He even reminded me that my Mk1 Rocco has 8 layers of clear coat  Has he counted them, I asked myself? Well, I suppose he's worked on my Mk1 Rocco often enough to know :D Tempest

Yeah, admittedly, I wasn't feeling too well, and still am not, the more I'm trying to read up on this product (other than from the manufacturer's own website), and find its weak spots. Oh well, it's only one small panel that's done, but still I even can't deny the improved shine. In my searches I have, however, come across this rather interesting forum for car valeters (particularly note the contribution made by the guy from the UK, "Dan loves tea", on Max Power car owners and how to make more money on car enthusiasts like us  ). Ohh, isn't the Internet wonderful  Anyone else tried this stuff? Yes, it's normally applied only by professional valeters (at ridiculous prices), but humble me can now apply it as well, for a pint or 2 :D Tempest
-
Hi folks, Just happens to be that my neighbour works for VES, a car valeting company in Coventry, and demonstrated treating on epanel on my Mk1 Rocco with Jewelultra Diamondbrite. This stuff is a 2-stage application. The first stage involves applying some spirit-based window-cleaner with Diamondbrite Stage 1 using an applicator, letting it dry than apply Stage 2 with the same applicator, letting that dry (15 minutes !!), then wipe it off with a clean cloth (a bit of hard work to get if off). The improved shine was apparent compared to the adjacent body panel, but my concern is longevity (yes, I know I can read the product maker's bumph on their website, but than I might as well believe in fairies, as companies will never highight disadvantages  ), cost (it costs anywhere from £150 upward for a little 125 ml bottle  ), what the use of normal car shampoes does to it, etc. Any one else had any experience with this stuff? My neighbour's left me everything to have a go myself on the rest of my Rocco over the weekend :D , but before I apply something that's got too many disadvantages, I'd rather hear some other people's experiences :D Tempest

Of course he's not entirely wrong, but I doubt whether he knows why  But yes, it's true, Karmann's finest coupes are addictive, I find myself also almost always thinking of my 3 whenever there's a quieter moment at work, on my way to work, shopping etc. Holidays? When you run your own company, there's no time for hols, just messing with Karmanns  Tempest

As Jim said, good choice is VT on the front, and oem VAG for the gearbox and rear engine mount. All bar the gerabox mount are fairly easy to replace, but even the gearbox one should be a heck of a lot easier on RHD Rados than on my US LHD G60  VT front mount 141 smackers at Stealth (includes postage, if you ask nicely and mention CCGB membership) :D Tempest

Yup, piccies exist on the CCGB's website: http://www.corradoclub.co.uk/design.html Tempest

Karmann factory and museum tour is well worth it, if you can get in. Had mine beginning of September to celebrate the Rocco's 30th anniversary :D They had some interesting prototypes in the museum, a cabrio Rado and pickup Rado 8) Tempest
-
No, she's not. It takes a lot to appreciate the intricacies of a Rado  Tempest
-
Hmm, gotta go out in the dark and have a play, too. Mine does relock after approx. 30 s whenever I'm in the Rado and started the engine, but that is a feature of my alarm, syas so in the manual of my CAT1 alarm. Tempest

Same here, but as JimsG60 already said, I prefer it as it is a lot less loud than the electric systems that Vauxhall et all use. My parents' Vauxhalls make this really loud annoying CLICK sound, terrible, probably means that even "deaf" people know the car's (un)locked  Tempest
