You're definitely growing old now. Golf Mk3s, other mates of mine driving Audis  jeez, what's happening to all the Rocco/Rado folk I (used to  ) know? I like the modded Auto Express booklet article though, always thought the G-Lader concept was special, and yes I have a memory like a sieve, but still manage to remember the G60 when it first came out (press articles and TV shows in Germany all slating them because of G-Laders allegedly blowing up  ). Corrado in Top Gear used cars buyers guide
Tempest replied to Ice White Socks's topic in General Car Chat
Nope, they probably would like to forget about both the Rocco and the Rado, given their low sales figures for what VW is: A producer of mass production cars  Even the lady guiding us around Karmann 2 weeks ago said that the Corrado was a big flop for VW, as car producers ultimately only look at the money aspect of their wares. Shame but true, but let's just enjoy the fact that our cars are so exclusive, sales flop or not  ! Tempest -
Yup, nice exhaust, and that's what mine must have looked like when it was new, too, all nice and shiny on the inside  Shame the summer is over again, as on my US Rado you hardly hear the Milltek system on the inside (because of the very efficient sound proofing), but during a nice warm sunny day, windows down, yup, definitely sounds nice :D Tempest

Does this mean that I should leave my BK Racing 299s on then as well? I just thought, that too many other Rados had them on  Tempest

Spotted a black Rado at Wyndon Motors (bodyshop) on Gulson Road, Coventry, today at around 19:00 whilst walking home. Anyone in Coventry got their Rado in that bodyshop, guess I could have walked in and asked  Tempest

Yes, can only agree that it's rather unspectular, as mine rolled over to 100k driving back from the Ragley Hall Mega meet last Sunday. Nevertheless I was hoping to delay this till I had had the Rado for a year, which is towards the end of this month. Tempest

The Königsport use Koni dampers (the Koni yellow), whereas the Highsport use FK's own design. Not bad for the money, at least on a Rocco, althoug Iprefer the Sachs Racing coilovers (no longer made  ) on my Mk1 Rocco :D KW do nice coilovers for the Rado as well, as quite a few Germans swear on them in preference to FKs efforts. The reason was 5-years anniversary of a German Rocco-Forum that I hang out on, 30-years anniversary of our beloved Roccos, and little me even celebrating 20-years Mk2 Storm Rocco. Some pics then :D :

Also look for fuel traces around the actual main supply hose inside the engine bay, the one coming up along the right hand strut (viewed in driving direction), may need to tighten up a clip there. Have a good snif around that area. The fuel pump on yours is already inside the tank, you can hear that by laying your ear inside your boot above the fuel tank plate (never mind what the neighbours think  ) and you should hear a humming noise with the engine swithced on (wanted to check yours next time we meet up and compare it to mine to judge whether mine's on the way out ...) Well, I better own up then, ... yes, I have been to Karmann this weekend just gone, together with approx. 30 other Roccos :D What a weekend it was :D . Loads of piccies, more in general chat shortly. Erm, back to topic, yeah, no problem with adjusting the gear cables, done that on mine several times (as you know and have heard, Jim, mine did crunch quite badly), as it is indeed a bit of trial and error and patience. PM for dates ... Tempest

Yup, that would be my next suggestion. Check the timing with a gun, should be 6 degrees BTDC (was retarded on my Rado when I recently did the timing  , made a huge difference getting it back to spec again), otherwise what's the resistance reading on your CO-pot? Could also be that your engine is running far too rich. Typical value for an unmodded G60 should be around the 500 Ohms mark. Tempest

Can only agree that thorugh the discounts I managed to get my membership fee back more than once. As I occasionally travel across to the continent (going again this Thursday - taking the Storm Rocco or the Rado,... decisions  ) booking my ferry ticket through Drewe Travel (mentioned on the CCGB website), you get a nice 10% discount there as well :D One ferry trip and I had my membership fee back. Yup, the flange on the side of the engine block is a bit tricky to do yourself, just done the one on my Mk2 Storm (same part number as the one used on the PG Block, now plastc, was metal), paid about ohhh, was it less than 2 quid or so from my local VW stealers. Tempest

There should be no probs with the In.Pros, as the E-Mark suggests that they're legal in all EU countries, just remind your MOT tester that the UK is also part of the EU, and has been since ohhh, was it 1976 or something (never been really good at history lessons  ). It's more likely that the FKs could cause probs, strictly speaking, as they do not have the E-Mark, let alone any self-painted/tinted jobbies. Tempest

Yes, it is true, that you don;t see that many Rado or Roccos for that matter in Germany. They're kept more and more as sunshine-only, special occasion cars, some still use them as daily drivers. But generally I've found as well, that I manage to see more of both in Blighty than in Germany (where I go to visit my parents now and then, always keeping both eyes open for Rados and Roccos). Then again, I'll be seeing loooooaaads of Roccos and a few Rados starting Friday next week whilst over in Germany :D :D Tempest

Not, if you look here, last sets went for £145 (smoked), and £159 (red/clears, and clears). They're the InPros with E-Mark. If I get enough peeps together again, I can start another group buy. :D Tempest

That'll appear in another thread once I've tested it, it's in though  Tempest

OK, it was the relay ... 8) Luckily thought of checking that before we took off all the steering wheel gubbins  Just thought I'd let folks know, as it's handy to have solutions to problems. Now on to mine ... Tempest

Erm yes, you're of course right, a 3rd variety being where some leather cover blocks access to the push horn, as is the case with the Momo wheel on my Storm , but I know Jim's wheel (at least I think I do  ), just didn't mention that here  No, quite, unless some moron has rounded off the allen bolts like was the case with my Momo for my Storm (off ebay) Leamington Spa, less than 20 minute drive, might be going there myself again in the not too distant future. PM me re; Saturday, as work is starting to arrive for my 3 toys again (more goodies arrived at the stealers today 8) ) Tempest

I think the idea behind an independent forum like this one is to highlight both positive and negative aspects, nothing wrong with being blatantly honest :) As a Newbie you most likely have already come here, because you want to read about both sides of the equation of Rado-ownership, I did! And despite reading loads of so-called negative experiences, I still went ahead and got myself a Rado. Why? Well the decision had already been taken anyway  , I knew that no car's perfect, and certainly not any ones not carrying the type 53 badge  Thanks to being able to read both the negative and positive aspects I knew what I was letting myself into, nothing better than a fully informed, clued-up customer who knows for once what he's buying :) So nothing wrong with sharing our experiences in the public, methinks, as long as the positive aspects outweigh the negative ones, which for me they still do :D Tempest

Aftermarket steering wheels: Prise off horn button, then you'll see the main bolt holding the boss + steering wheel assembly to the steering wheel shaft. No need to undo the 6 Allen bolts, as that'll only detach the steering wheel from the boss. Will get you there in the end, but too much work that way. Jim, we could do this this Saturday, as I might be kinda bored, no major jobs on any of mine to do at the mo', unless one of my toys once again dreams up a nice job for me  Tempest

Crikey, just had a casual glance out of my office window onto the car park, just to see a royal blue Rado VR6 drive by  This doesn't happen very often, I mean Rados in our rather boring car park full of the usual executive sh*te, but fancy that, nothing better to do, quick glance onto the car park and whoohay. Couldn't make out the license number . I think they took a wrong turning anyway, as they soon after left the car park again, only to be greeted by our ruthless exit barrier  Then on my way to work this morning, as I was walking down the stairs leading into a pedestrian undergorund passage, I quickly looked up at the road above, just to catch the tail end of a burgundy red Rado 8) Dunno what it is today and here in Coventry, but that's 2 Rados never seen before in Coventry !! Anyone else got some experiences like that today? Will then have to declare today as Corrado-Day  Tempest

I just phoned up the Milton Keynes VW support line (campaign line as they call it) asking whether on my Rado the heater matrix might have been exchanged to cure the "possibility of coolant leakage into passenger compartment" issue due to an exploded matrix. As the guy couldn't trace my car on license plate (import), or on VIN (didn't show up on their system), he couldn't help me, also mentioning that he thought the campaign, i.e. recall, had now been closed given the age of the vehicle ! Oh well, I'll just have to hope the matrix doesn't go pop  Anyone else had some more luck? Tempest
-
Same here, I have to admit that my Rado keeps me busy more than the 2 Roccos I have combined. Everytime I get a problem sorted, another is bound to pop up almost immediately after or during the sorting of the first problem  Oh well, who said Rado ownership was cheap and easy? Tempest

4 wires: 2 white ones (heater), 1 signal wire (purple), and a brown one which connects to the bracket that the conector is held onto (GND-shield). But if you're saying that with the probe disconnected the engine still keeps on cutting out, I'd start suspecting the blue temp-sender. When I had a faulty Lambdaprobe, disconnecting it made the Rado run fine again, a bit uneconomical possibly on the fuel consumption, but it ran fine. Tempest
