I though you where allowed to drive it to and from a 'pre-booked' MOT without tax.

Bugger, hope it turns out to be something simple (and cheap) Answers (that I know): 1. Don't know 2. No - it won't show a faulty relay 3. Check the cams are turning (as well as spark/fuel) 4. May do - mine developed a random misfire until I changed the sensor
-
Rev counter will over (I think) read by 50% - it may be worth keeping an eye out for some VR6 clocks. Are the LHD and RHD assemblies the same?
-
sounds good, i need just the nearest one to the airbox I don't know about that one - I needed the one at the battery end, that was obselete but a 2nd (more useful) parts person realised that it was supersceded - still not found receipt fror that part - looks like I've not put it in my file  Found the receipt for the cone thingy at the end of the cable - this is the number off my receipt, so I assume it's a part number but don't guarantee V535 823 555 it's described as N/STK NIPPLE and cost £6.11 on the 14th Jan this year.
-
It's been superseded - I'll have a look for a receipt with the part number later - At least it was still available in January when mine let go.
-
You may need to get the cone shaped thingy that fits on the under-bonnet end of the cable, the bolt sheared on mine when I attempted to change it, it is not part of the cable assembly.
-
Just fix it properly - less hassle and probably quicker than devaluing your car with nasty bits
-
Doesn't sound good - could be one several problems though. Any chance of posting an audio clip? It's too hard to diagnose from your description, could be anything from a big end let go (full bottom end rebuild) to an exhaust manifold come loose (5 minutes with a spanner). What's your location, it's possibly you are near someone who'd be willing to assist the diagnosis.
-
It'd be good to know the problem. I'm quite often around there, but in the works van rather than the car.
-
10 may even be too thin for a high miler - I'd be looking for a good quality 15 or even 20 weight if I was in your position.
-
Easiest way will be to find a switched live and use that to operate a relay, then feed the fans direct from a permanent live (I'd wire direct to battery) via a suitable fuse through the relay. You then only need a low current to hold the relay on.

Guessing wheels where in the air, (auto or manual transmission)? If so nothing to worry about, you should be able to stop the rotation with your hand.
-
nice - always used to put my tax discs there - kept getting bollocked by the coppers though cause the car I had at the time had a screen with a built in sun strip, they struggled to read em and didn't like it - these days though, it's all on their 'puter.

If it was me I'd change the usual 3 suspects first if you don't know their history: ECU Relay Fuel Pump Relay Ignition Switch It'll be also worth scanning with VCDS to see if any odd codes are stored which could account for the problem.

ABS switch? do you mean the warning light?

That's a negligible amount of oil in your pic, could have come from a split breather as mentioned. If you had non showing on your dipstick and it was an external leak, the underside of the car will be plastered in the stuff as you'll have lost over 2 litres which will cover a huge area. If there's no obvious oil in large quantities on the engine/underneath of the car - I would have to suspect that the engine has burned it and you haven't noticed, or it never had enough in the first place. I'd check the plugs/air intake etc for signs of where the 'missing' oil has gone. I'd also want to know where/how the garage checked the oil, and what pressure they recorded - rather than saying it was a little low. The warning buzzer activates at 0.3bar iirc
-
Nice one - glad you're sorted :D

Yep - there's an interfering signal on 433.9MHz - could be a jammed wireless doorbell, or if it's been happening more than a week or so morelikely something mains powered (possibly video sender type thing where you can watch a sky box, etc in another room). It will be in a house within 3 or 4 of yours. Check it's not your own property by taking batteries out of any wireless remote controls, and knock your mains off. If they still don't work, report it to Ofcom on 0207 981 3040 or see http://www.ofcom.org.uk/contactus/

Sounds like tappets to me. You'd normally hear a slack chain with the engine spooling down, it has a different sound to tappets - somewhat like a flapping noise.
-
:D Used to like haynes when it told you you could fabricate a special tool using half a brick and a bent nail! They're not as helpful now a days.
-
1 and 6 are usually the first culprits to wear. However I'd hazard a guess that your head gasket has gone between 1 and 4 :(
-
That will be one of the oil pressure sensors - I think they are on a tapered thread, just see if it will tighten a little, may be enough to stop it.
-
That's the same lead I've got - highly recommended. I got sick of the cheap nasty ebay leads falling over so bit the bullet and splashed out on the proper one.

Here's mine - looks to have been before the end of May last year looking at the tax disc colour (can see it when zoomed in) and on a Tuesday morning - bin day. Can't get the picture to size properly - sorry.
