  1. Yeah, bts = blue temp sensor. Have you had it on vagcom? I know that will show up a duff bts, as I had one on mine when I got the car. They aren't (weren't) too expensive, just over £20 but that was in '04, so likely to have gone up a bit since.
  2. It's more basic than the above, the engine actually won't crank if I read your post right. Have you checked the starter motor? Have you tried to bump start the car when it won't go off the key? If it starts it proves the problem lies with the starter circuit somewhere.
  3. Check you've got a spark on all 6 plugs, possible failed coil pack. Check injectors as described in above post. Check compression on all cylinders is within limits. Change your oil and filter - this won't help it run, but as it's contaminated with petrol it will have lost most of it's lubrication properties.

    Speedometer

I don't know what car you are talking about, but iirc, only the early C's with the analogue mile counters had cable driven speedo's. The rest have electronic ones, driven off a sensor on the gearbox. Most likely this is packing up, if the speed reading is fluctuating wildly. A cable at fault usually manifests itself as an oscillating speedo needle, with the occasional jump as the cable snags then frees itself.
  5. Dunno if you've sorted this yet, but... If you mean is the copper right in your pic above, then no it's totally mashed. Some pics below of a spare I have knocking around, sorry for crap quality, my camera bust so used phone. Dial set to position 0 close up at position 0 Dial at position 4
  6. Mine's oily, but it hides under the bonnet so it doesn't matter to me
  7. I've never been a fan of bosch plugs, but that's after some incidents 20 years back, so not fair to slate them on those terms. Have your HT leads seated correctly?
  8. Yellow sensor for the gauge. Blue is for ECU, and black for aircon.
  9. Don't know about the radio lights, but your windows are definately working correctly, they should remain live until the door is open and closed again. Useful if you forget to close the windows before turning the car off. My radio beeps to remind me to take the panel off, is this what you're hearing?
  10. Ignition switch at a guess. My VR's doing just the same, but intermittently. If you have a look round the forum, you'll see how troublesome the switches are.

    ABS light of doom

This is the home page of the company that makes vagcom, have a look for the version of the software you want, usually 3.11 and download the shareware version.
  12. Holy poo - glad you're OK. Wonder how this happens though, I though the safety catch should have held it for long enough to pull over.
  13. I suppose it was lucky you found it when you did, could have been much worse. Good luck in repairing it. You have removed or disconnected the battery haven't you? Just wouldn't want it to get any worse over night.
  14. As others have said, see if you can drive a VR to see if it's for you. It's not really a quick car in standard form especially compared to more modern stuff, reminds me more of a cruiser. A couple of times in the last couple of months some random people have called round, one picking some freecycle stuff up and another looking at a bike I was flogging, both of them loved the car and wanted to buy it (they referred to it as a VR6, not a Corrado btw) - No it's not for sale by the way. Stuff like that gives me a buzz, and mines not in all that brilliant nick in my opinion, the problems of not having a garage.
  15. Sound odd - the only thing I can think is that some how the throttle cable is been pulled by the handbrake mechanism somewhere, although I don't see why it would be routed anywhere near. May just be worth tracing the cables to see that they aren't interfering with each other.
  16. Mine used to do this - not done it for a while though now, I'd forgotten about it. I just ignored it and it seemed to go away. I put it down to dust burning off some of the electrical contacts.
  17. Pull you plugs first and check the condition of them and see if they spark when connected to the HT leads. If two dont, and the are on the same coil, ie 1 and 4, 2 and 5 or 3 and 6. Then that's a sure fire sign that one of the coils in the pack has died. There's a vague possibility that one plug has failed and needs replacing. Mine used to oil one plug and it would fail, I think the bores where glazed when I got it through city driving - they're not now  and it hasn't done it for about 5 years.
  18. Is it possible to fit a LHD gauge pod in a RHD car without too much faffing around? I'm sure I saw a thread on here a few years ago, but can't find it now. Just wondering if its worth taking a punt on the set on fleabay at the moment.
  19. You'll need the later bonnet, CDI unit for the engine. The driveshafts may be different front springs may be different to cope with the heavier motor. I'm sure someone will confirm or correct that.
  20. My oil fluctuates a bit like you would expect, but only between 104 and 110 (at legalish speeds) I dare say it'd go higher if caned. My water sits about 80 constant (unless in slow traffic). I'd be a bit wary of the 'stat, it'd be worth swapping out for piece of mind, and it isn't overly hard or expensive. A bit fiddly though from what I remember.

    clocks

Be wary of VR6 clocks as the tacho will probably be miles out when used on a 4 cylinder car.
  22. I never knew a battery could go reverse polatity - you learn sommat new every day.
  23. Supercharged beat me to it - check the 'stat isn't stuck shut.
  24. I've seen a loose connection on the battery do this before, not on a Corrado though. Disconnect both terminals, clean any corrosion and smear with petroleum jelly or similar and reconnect battery (-ve last). Fingers crossed it will work and be a cheap and easy fix.
