  1. Thanks again Shaun, yes it starts to make sense after reading it a few times 😉 Another idea I have is to keep the fan relay box and switch the relay for a non A/C one which should give me two speeds instead of the 3 speeds I had before removing the A/C. I have a brand new oem one I got for $10! Tbe Sharan connector might be harder to find for me here in Canada since we didn't get that model. I may go the same way Fla did with the MK4 connectors which I can probably source locally at the dealer. Cheers!
  2. Alright mates, I pulled the trigger on this shroud. Came up on sale, has a 12" and a 9" openings and I think for my NA set-up it should suffice. Thinking about it more, even if my oem fan parts "look good" they're old and will fail sooner than later. So for peace of mind I will be replacing the system. https://www.fablessmanufacturing.com/products/fan-shroud-vw-corrado Thinking of making the wiring harness now and I think I'm still not sure about a few things. The connector I see installed on you guts shrouds is from a Sharan correct? But like Fla, it's possible to buy both connectors off a MK4 instead to make the connection right? With this Spal set-up and relays mounted to the shroud. The entire fan relay module and its wiring can be removed? Shaun, with your wiring did you keep all 3 speeds and the after run as well? Since I deleted the A/C I probably don't need the 3rd speed anymore. Would be nice to have 2 speeds only where the second speed actuate the second 9" fan plus the after run and that's it!
  3. Looks amazing! Sebring are my favourite wheels on a MK2 and Michelin tyres are top, great combo mate!
  4. This is fantastic back to back info! So about 11hp extra and low rpm increase, win/win! Happy for you mate cheers
  5. I totally agree, that's why I wanted the oem one. And it's 26 years old after all, I'm sure it seen better time. But lime I said, if I can't find an oem replacement, it's going back! Cheers
  6. OMG you're funny and well said! Ha haa! I'm replacing the clutch and flywheel with standard Satchs yes. If I can't find a proper replacement then it will go back before Topran you can be sure. I just though it should be changed while at it, it's old and don't they bend a little over time?
  7. I agree, better be safe than sorry... I'm not surprised to read your story. I don't know what happened to customer service and also these days it's hard to find someone who is willing to do the extra step. I wish I could do the drive but I live on a small island in the Pacific, it's a day trip and a ferry away so unfortunately I have to rely on internet for most things... Cheers!
  8. Thanks Shaun, your point is totally valid and I would definitely go for a reinforced one before Topran or jp group. Nothing's wrong with it, I think! But it's old and I'm replacing everything with new stuff so I figured I should change that as well... Im curious to hear back from the dealer on Monday! Thank you!
  9. Thank you for your time Keyo. I gave emailed VW dealer again, he's on vacation and will be back Monday, then I'll know for sure if it's straight bolt on or another parts needs replacing as you mentioned. That reinforced one looks good! But really, for my application I don't think I would need that right? More for turbo or stage 2 and up clutches?
  10. Thanks Keyo, I took the part number on 7ZAP. I was not aware if the part was succeeded... I did ask my dealer and he said NLA, usually he would offer me if there was a replacement. So you think the "C" would do it?
  11. All I see available is JP group or Topran and I think those are on the cheap side no?
  12. Yet, another NLA part... I've bought the last one (02J141719B) of a seller on ebay and they just let me know 5 weeks later that the part is damaged and they won't be shipping it... I wanted an OEM one but now I can't find it... Any recommendations for me? What do you guys uses? Cheers!
  13. These are all very good news, very happy for you specially after the last week issues. Looking forward to seeing the numbers from your Thursday tests! Go enjoy! Cheers
  14. All good points, thanks Shaun! With all that new information, I think I'll pause this for now so I can think about it. By that I mean, see if I can budget for a spal kit ha haa. Engine won't be going in till fall anyway. I like the fact that I can loose that big relay box... Thanks for all the judicious advise as usual!
  15. Okay, I'll investigate more then about the jb weld. I do have some, got it when working on the dash... Yes mate, that is the kit I'm thinking about!
  16. That's a very good point Shaun! I was wondering if that big relay was going away if installing a spal system. Then, it might be another positive thing to consider, not only it would look cleaner but that's another thing that can go wrong in the future that wouldn't anymore... Food for thoughts, thanks for bringing this to my attention. I thought of jb weld to fix the cracks, it's the plastic studs that goes into the shroud I wasn't sure of?
  17. Thanks Fen! Yes that's the part number for the rings, I did search all over here first and it's a no-go... I guess with the age and heat, that plastic became very brittle. It's those plastic tabs that goes in the metal shroud that where pretty much all broken. The sad thing is the metal shroud itself has ZERO rust on it!! I was planning on getting it powder coated to preserve it! Cheers
  18. Thank you very much to you too for your time and comments. Much appreciated! Shaun that set-up you've put together is really looking good! I never thought of doing anything about my oem fans other than a powder coat but finding those broken plastic rings lead to a NLA part search. I'm not going turbo and I think the oem system is efficient enough but if I can't fix it, then what! And maybe this is good thing after all. It's true, those old parts would fail and with a new engine going on and knowing how VR6 runs hot, maybe it is a good thing to upgrade to spal fans. There's a kit I can buy here with the shroud, electrical and two 12" spals. I'm starting to think that maybe it would be a good thing to go for this, specially after noticing that many of you did the move already! Thanks for helping me out, you guys are the best! Cheers
  19. I just drilled the rubber with an half inch drill bit. Then a sawzall, cut the rubber all around. You're left with the metal sleeve, use a hacksaw blade, cut it once that will remove the pressure, then use whatever you have to remove it. Took me 10 minutes per bushings... Cheers
  20. This as been quite an interesting read, nice projects and write ups. This week, I took apart my rad shroud to get it ready for powder coating. I noticed the plastic rings around the fan blades all cracked up. It sucks because these are NLA and the rest is in very good condition. Anyways, long story short, I'm looking at alternatives and that's how I found this thread. So from this reading, it's making me realize that I'm probably not alone having issues as it looks like almost all of you already upgraded to a newer system with bigger & thinner fans... Is it worth it? Is it way better at cooling the engine? Cheers!
  21. Thanks mate, I actually just pulled them off! I used grease like you said, à little bit of heat from a hair dryer to soften them up a little and used a medium size pry bar. So glad I could save them! Cheers
  22. So I'm getting another round of parts for powder coating ready. This morning, I tackled the front engine carrier. There's 4 bushings that I will need to remove to get the job done. I know I could cut them off and call it a day but they are in very good condition and are NLA... Is there any way to remove them without breaking them or they go one way and once placed there's no coming back? Thanks as usual, cheers!
  23. Yes I think so Bruno, once removed I'll take care of it! Thanks again.
  24. Ya that ebay post is hard to follow. I bought a kit like this from these guys in the USA. But it looks like they only have front and rear kits with either mk3 or MK4 rears option. Not just the front ones... https://techtonicstuning.com/main/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_28_180&products_id=285&zenid=kucs1k1d8ifu4cuvevvn48sb63
  25. Way to go mate! Glad to hear it went smoothly for you. -I wonder too why the SKF came so tight? Would be curious to find out... -My inner came out that way as well, I had a ball bearing popping out of the cage. -wishbone bushing, time to upgrade to the R32 ones! They're cheap and not too bad to install. -I would wait to sort out those bushings before going for an alignment! Enjoy the rest of your Sunday! Cheers
