  1. Similar thing for me Mr Wizard. Only its up to a roundabout and lane 1 splits into 2 lanes and lane 2 is pushed over to the right and becomes lane 3 for a right turn. So the amount of people who drift from the right lane into the middle one, because its a straight line, and fail to indicate and worse still force thier way across - its gob smacking, and more so when I peep to stay in lane and make my presense known. Jim - was the biker not a bit dazed and require a bit of 'getting it together' time? Someone should've moved the bike asap to get traffic going. And if Mrs Celica wasnt a nurse and checking Mr Biker was 'with it', then she shoulda fekked off.
  2. Im fed up of all this stuff as much as you. This might catch people out who speed (if Dr Mat is wrong – which we doubt), as most people know the locations of those big yellow boxes and slow down for them, I see it every day. Personally I don’t know of many cameras near me, I avoid the A45 and M42; however there is one road that has cameras on the way to work and I have no idea why they are there – it used to be 70 and now a 50, for what reason I don’t know. I agree with JIM , we are getting ripped off here and its not catching the tax/mot/insurance dodging scum. And what about all this malarkey about £1,800/year road tax and lower national speed limit? It’s a joke and about time to leave this place; only this week I heard our local council tax is due to go up 5% to cover to cost of immigrants in the area alone. I’d give up on cars and bikes soon anyhow, with this idea of tagging cars and checking speed 24/7 via satellite. The sort of thieving toe-rags that drive on stolen plates might just be clever enough to cover up that barcode or do away with the disc; better still come up with a different barcode. Wheres there a criminal, theres a way!
  3. Good luck with it all Laura, people often change thier story a few days later. A camera in this situation always helps!! Lucky that big old Saab didnt split the C in two, lol; she must've scrubbed a bit of speed off coming in sideways.
  4. 1. Discs* 2. Possibly weights come off wheels and thus unbalanced; have a look 3. Loose brake caliper - although unlikely. * look for people breaking thier cars who have reasonably new discs and pads for cheapest option; or fleabay; or bit the bullet and buy off a shop. Presume ABS all okay too?
  5. Superb Mr Storm, look forward to your investigation/findings
  6. Eric, I know two places under the railway arches in Leamington would work on a VW. Pete Holland (+44 (01926) 314 911) is a very fair guy, but in being so he is also very booked up - maybe worth a call. Our rocco was dodgy on the hoses, so we wire brushed them and painted them in a hrad wearing paint. Looked like new afterwards. Just an idea! For future, I'd brush off most safety items like that, clips and all, and paint them. The Golf failed the front brake lines a few years back at my regular MOT place - Im glad it did fail, because the line was cracking
  7. Found the rattling noise in the car, the air-foil or what I call the Sunroof-spoiler has two holding down clips - one of which has broken. See pic Anyone know if VAG or GSF sell this tiny part?
  8. You say the noise is from the rear yet think its the drive shaft (front); why? - Is the noise constant; always there, or is it on occasion? - Does the rubbing noise become louder or faster when you speed up? Have you given all 4 wheels a good rock/pull to look for play; could be a hub or suspension related problem. See this thread for more ideas: http://the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic.php?t=45429 and: http://the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic.php?t=43042 8) Stu
  9. Interesting post G60. Let us know how you got on soon then. As said by Kite, the feedback you get can differ depending on the Observer* you get. *these people are giving up thier free time to advise you to get to test standard. ... Question: any one know what the deal is with expirey dates; I mean do you have to re-test every year or what? I though about doing it just for the insurance drop; but now its reasonable Im no longer that interested. Im more interested in staying alive and the teachings I have had on the bike are more than good. You'll even see from posts here that people are divided. Many peeps see the letters written as "I am" as in I am a great driver; not a good thing. I have a mate who like to drive quickly. Handles the car very well. He mentioned doing the I AM test. Boy oh boy would he have to change drastically - like sticking to the speed limits, especially built up areas, not drive on the ragged edge and also quit taking the racing line and take a wide well observed line around bends. Its all about risk observation! . Because theres a lot of snow on those mountains in Oxford! - just kiddin
  10. Ok, to revive the topic I had a pet peeve happen again today. People who own the road. - I mean to say, they think they own it. Im easing off to work this morning and in no rush, infact intend to arrive late to miss the rush-hour traffic. Coming around a long left hander, I edge out toward the white line to better my view and also miss a drain-grid that I am aware of. I will refuse to hit pot-holes and grids etc that could potentially damage my rims. Parked on the other side of the road is a car. Coming towards me is this guy, but I reach the parked car 1st (easily) and ease by. Now this ponce in his hair-dresser 2-seater, with the roof down, throws both his hands up in the air, staring at me, as he comes to a stop behind the parked car. Now what is his problem? Clearly he felt I should've driven into the gutter to allow sufficient space for him to drive through and thus letting him avoid coming to a stop - heaven forbid him having to slow down as per highway-code. === # 2 - Dub_nut, that reminds me of going for a drive last week, Came upto some lights, not far from the Waterman pub, where an Alfa GT sat in lane one and lane two was empty. I came up slowly and "gassed it" when the lights went green, with my rolling start. Tinkerbell in his GT decided to accellerate hard and wanted to undertake me as the road norrowed into 1 - what a dangerous silly man he was. I booted it and stayed ahead and stuck to the 60. Came to a 40 where he hogged my bumper and sat on the white line* then flashed me as he turned off into a petrol station. *He was welcome to come past as I would never break the limit; but instead he just wanted to be aggressive to show me how hard he was; good job I didnt want petrol too. And 'bet your bottom dollar' that had I rolled up behind him instead of going past, he would've pootled along the 1st road at 50 and not the said 60.
  11. Trig, perfect drop; better than the sh*te done to my car previously. Wheels are what I'd call a modern improvement on the standard - ie look great !! 16" is a perfect size! Im still looking.
  12. Phil - I was impressed with the Boxter, although most people say its too basic inside. I hate most modern cars for thier interior; too much plastic. Im excited at the thought of the 911. On a small note, I had a Carrera GT blat past me the other day - I bet thats a hoot - it sounded lovely. As for the R1, I bet its cool too. Ive been on the Fireblade and it opened my eyes to a different world. I know low speed stuff can do big damage if you come off; its all about not hitting solid objects. I was very lucky not to loose a foot when a bike landed on me (@ 10mph); the silencer stopped it. Doesnt put me off - I gotta live.
  13. You replaced the rear bearing but the front discs? I'd give all 4 wheels a wiggle up on a jack/stand. Thus bearings. (assuming all wheels on nice and tight). Then take wheels off and check that all brake calipers are bolted on properly. I wouldnt expect vibration in the floor if it was the rear giving problems; but if the discs are majorly warped, maybe, just maybe. More likely those front bearings. Go easy on those new brakes too.
  14. I wasn't that lucky Jim, but I bought an Oil Filter off VAG for under £10. minstrall - dont forget to ask for a sump-plug washer too; thats probably free. NB: using a VAG filter is a good thing. When buying a car, I get suspicious if non genuine parts are used; even though those parts maybe good, there is a degree of certainty with VAG.
  15. You'd hope so for x12 the price  , even if it is 1s to 60 slower than a typical 1000 bike, it should eat one/any round a track. Luck g*t - hope to get a ride on a Carrera 4s soon.
  16. Sounds sensible to me Kev; my thinking all along. And if they can take a fat weight of a TVR engine then it should take your VR brute, lol. Let us all know the outcome. Will also keep an eye out in 6 months time for "anyone know of a decent damper brand?" LOL.
  17. Agreed, check this first. Ideal if you could do this your self, ie less hassle. Otherwise it could be a warped disc. Or as you say, the caliper could be binding on (which can be fixed), but its all bit of a coincidence. Go back garage if you have problems. Presume you trust them.
  18. I'll give you a hand to change stuff once you found the problem Jim, if yu like. You could try checking the rubber boots on the front shafts; run your hand round them looking for cracks.
  19. Well some of you guys are real lucky. Been in some nice cars my self, but as for sporty, well erm probably only one - the Westfield Sport. With acceleration like the bike, it was a hoot; then cornering would piss on anything under £50k. Been passenger in a Boxter S, but wasn't impressed. Been in a few track cars but that doesnt count. As for top speed, that has to be on a bike; upper 3figs on a 750, again on track. As for owned, its early days. Its the sluggish C. But thats ok, as the C is for otehr things too. Whereas teh bike is for seeing off everything 4 wheeled.
  20. Let us know how the Camber & Toe was come the 11th Aug - Im sure its one of those too. As for Aki comment, I'd disagree. Only if tyre pressures are wrong this will happen. If you're on a low profile tyre, ie on 17" wheels, then his suggestion would be massively wrong. However if you're on good old 15" like me, then it still shouldn't happen. Mine are wearing just great. As soon as I notice too much wear in the middle then I know they are over inflated; visa versa for both outer edges worn. Just for info, Im running about 33 rear and 36 front; it keeps the tyre wall stiffer - more like a 205/40-17 would be. Whereas 30/29 was great on the 17"'s I had.
  21. "scan ECU" - how? Is this another VAGCOM reference?
  22. I have heard a lot about the camshaft swap for the 16v 2.0L 9A, taken from the 1.8 KR. However, does anyone know exactly how the job is done step by step? Or at least some helpful hints? Additional pointers as to checking the alignment etc would be most helpful. Cheers lads/lasses, Stu
  23. Emma, there is a What Exhaust thread somewhere on here - there you will see loads of different back-box choices. I got my box from VAG for near £100 - should last ages and the tailpipe polishes up nicely. Its fairly quiet but gives a nice deep note for the 2.0L 16v. Alternatively look on fleabay for a genuine new one. Option B would to be go for a stainless Steel one. Then you can fit it your self. However, as I had the full system replaced I went to my trusty garage and had it fitted for £15.
  24. That seems a rather indepth question that is mostly down to your OWN preferences and interpretation of what is "comfortable". The only way to have comfort and yet firm enough ride to give good handling is via a Variable Rate Spring - which most of them are. For example (click); you can see the coil becomes tighter (firmer), yet the open part of the coil gives initial comfort over tiny bumps. or theres the: Bilstein PSS9 Hieght & Damping Adjustable Coilover Kit. You need to know the different rates as Kev says then see which YOU prefer. This site has loads of makes so might give you some ideas. There a variable rate shock, adjustable height etc etc.
  25. Following hte plug change it was time for the yearly Oil+filter & air filter change. Only to find vag had ordered the wrong air filter for mine, as the 9A engine code uses a thinner filter.
