  1. interesting thread. Mine feels as if its pointing at teh sky ever since I put the standard springs back on; as I suspected the front was -40 while the back was -35mm. Only 5mm difference, maybe it was 25 at the back. Does anyone know how well these caps work and if there are any possible problems??? ps --> How many post 1995 G60/VR6/16v's were there??? , as your Venom site says... Part ID: 20716-S Lowering spring caps. Replace the standard factory caps on front suspension struts. Easy fit to top of spring. 10mm Drop VW Corrado G60 / 16V / VR6 Year: After Sep 1995.
  2. PBstorm - I gotta agree with 'double' and gaz. Baldy tyres are almost like slicks in the dry and could possibly give great grip. Changing to a new tyre always feels odd for a few reasons. Firstly they may need bedding in a touch to get rid of that plasticy feel. Then you gotta realise that the new tyre will have several mm of tread, which means more movement and less stability (but much better water ditching). I presume no other changes were made to the car??? Otherwise, if you did change other things, then maybe they could be the cause? In addition to this, what were your old tyres like? If they had uneven wear, then maybe your camber/tracking was already out of skew. Then putting on new square tyres would in effect mean you're running on the knife edge. This would certainly be a suspision if you had the car lowered; or different alloys put on. It might just be the make of tyre. I've noticed my dunlops are lasting kind of okay, whereas the Toyo proxes lasted about 8000 mile (yes those felt grippy). Maybe worth checking your tyre pressures too and seeing what a few psi difference makes. Hope that helps, Stu
  3. LPG? £1.01 tell me about it; same here, so I only put in £30 hoping I'd find a cheaper location for Opx
  4. Dave, did you ever get a camera and more photos of your storm ???
  5. My C has got to be my daily driver. Doing about 250 mile/week. The bike is for fun only and couldnt see me turning upto work as a power-ranger to get changed in the toilets.
  6. didn't like it. Small and cramped inside; midgets only in the back. Noisy and couldn't see one being able to see off a VR. And how much does the S cost - think what else you could buy... Purely a posers car, only women drive them around here - which is a lot, say every 6th car - sorry!
  7. Did anyone watch that cop programe last night where they followed the Pompy police force around town, whereby the coppers had the power to not only remove a vehicle off the road, for having no tax/insurance, but also to crush the vehicle too? Now it all seemed a good idea until plod picked on a Scirocco. They seemed on a mission to crush all rusty cars. This vw was being driven by a mechanic who had just passed the car for its MOT and was returning it to the owner, who had no insurance. Now thats not unheard of, I've done tricks like that, asking others to move the car for me when insurance is in limbo. As the coppers had to let the car off, he commented saying "did you hear that lad, Modern Classic, pahh" ... then went onto say how much he loved all his old Volvos. , :lcop: = :cuckoo:
  8. ouch! seems more like jelousy than 'upset someone'.
  9. What happened to a good old thump in the mouth rather than the nasty weapons people really do use these days. And as my name isn't Mad Max, its just best we all hide in the corner and take it up the ***, whilst angry-chav drives all over you. It makes me laugh. You know how vulnerable we are on bikes; so obviously Im a lot more aware of danger. We saw some bloke driving all over the place on Sat, when on the bikes, he must've been drunk, he swerved as my dad overtook, whilst doing his 50 in the 60 zone. We gestured to him that he had been drinking, so he sped up (why?) to try and keep up - thankfully a bit of traffic meant he was stuck.
  10. I wouldn't say its Salespeople in Minis, its mostly a womens car - so imagine that combined with point 9 = crazy !! scarlet you know why bikers slow down? -- see my Drivers Choices thread... LOL
  11. bikers... "who appreciate..." thier beautiful peachy delights on display and hence slow down to take a good l@@k :-P
  12. Can I gripe about a lane-hogging-phone user too? Only last night a girl in a 106 or somthing was hogging the 2nd lane of a duel-c. Wouldnt budge. But when she did, I eased along side to see that she was holding her mobile. I slowed to her sleepy pace and shook my head. She never looked at me and stared ahead whilst still chatting - if only I was a plod in an unmarked. She slowed, I slowed; but 55 was a joke so I pizzled off
  13. Ive got a new squeek on mine too; yet they are older pads. Ive checked the pad depth and all seems ok and the discs are barely worn - is this just a case of cheap pads fitted by previous owner?
  14. couldn't agree more; braided on the bike is like a different world
  15. I've taken a look at your car Phil, looks nice other than the missing engine and tyre pressures. lol Can't say Ive seen this colour before, as I know of a very light blue. As dark as your blue is, I wouldn't say its as purple as mine; mine has "purple" on the V5. Be nice to see a gallery of all colour choices though huh...
  16. :shocked!: ouch kev! A choice between asking for payment of a new windown and getting your skull bashed in versus paying for the window your self. They're mad In addition to the old reasons for thie behaviour - ie lack of money and proper job means consequences dont matter as much, or similar smak heads are on a high and re-enacting thier Z's Dead Baby scene - I think lots of people are getting more aggressive. I dont understand it ; dont these people have a sense of fairness in them? Dont they realise its all so trivial and better forgotten and dont these people not realise that getting a criminal record could shaft future job chances???? As posted before I commented on some bloke (fully suited) getting arsy and giving me the bird because he chose to hog the outside lane - whats he on? Then on the otehr hand there was a young lad the oterhday who blatantly took the pizzle outta me by pushing ahead and forcing me to reverse when I'd been waiting all day to get through (my right of way too). Now if I didnt have a decent job, I was tempted to give him a proper kicking (as seen as he wasn't that big either), just as a matter of principal. Obviously I let it go and felt I should've done somthing about it, but now Im glad I didnt because did it really matter that I was held up a bit longer?! no!.
  17. Purple Phil - not sure how common it is, but I've seen one other in this colour. Having said that I've not seen many C's near me; one blue, one *drownish dirty looking VR and a nice looking slammed black 16v. *brownish - oops, dyslexia strikes again
  18. I think you'll get a lot of 'been there done that' Jim. I hope no-one comes across people like this, but it seems they're all over the place. I had a very similar one last year; Mk4 Golf, long chase etc, but no knife in this one, just a skinhead loon wanting to settle the score after he almsot wiped out the front end of my C whilst he was doing about 50 in a 30; I was very cool until he slowed down to 20, whereby I gestured it ws a thirty with three fingers - being blind he must've though it was a V and the story goes on. Seems that if you want to stay alive you gotta stick your head in the sand and runaway / keep well away from these psychos :shocked!: :help:
  19. It was such a lovely night for a walk last nigh; the missus frowned when I brought the camera but soon realised it was for the car... Then these guys came back from the dog walk and nodded @ the C, then drove off...
  20. Oh boy, there are sane people in this world after all... This became very clear to me in the 1.6 Golf, so hence I stopped many of my overtakes. However the C is just enough to get those stupid ones, as they still only go upto 55, whereas the C is happy to keep pulling past. Thats got to be one of the most dangerous things Ive come across. I do the same on the motorway. Last night I had to laugh on a duel-carriageway as I saw one of those hatchback BMW's ahead in the 2nd lane , doing say 68. SO I came up and he didnt move, so I straddled the line, still with a 2sec gap; no response so I flashed - just incase he hadnt seen me. No movement. Around the next bend a big traffic jam ahead meant he backed off so I carried on ahead under him to come alongside - he gestured the Willy Wonker @ me; I felt sorry for this stupid business man, middle aged, thinking that someday a lad of my age will get out a twot him one! Kev, I empathise with all of that, as yu can tell. Exactly, you want to know whats ahead all the time; scannig for tractors popping out a feild or whatever. So should you come across some traffic, your first view is "ah yes its clear up ahead - I can overtake"; you pop past before anyone has even dreamt of such a thing. So when you pop back in before what you can see as a hazard ahead (any number of things) - they then choose to get into the Hulk Rage and flash you............. why? Did you just scare them? I reckon so; because if they dont see it as safe to overtake, then how dare you - little knowing that you've made a calcualted* judgement. * unlike that lad in the mini when I was on the bike I bet billinjah ; certainly a problem on that A14.
  21. Agreed with Kev. There isnt much between them. If you want to notice a difference then you want to get a G60 or VR6. I get the feeling you're on a limited budget and cannot afford a VR6; because it would make most sense in the long run to by a VR6 straight off first time; that way you get to know the car and you get to appreciate your mods etc. I've got the 2.0 and happy with it. But if you can find a 91 year 1.8 with better interior etc for similar money, I know what I'd buy. However I got a 94 2.0l and so there would be no contest unless your 1.8 was a local commuter with silly low miles. As for insurance I think the 2.0 is still group 17. Mine worked out at an increase from 500 upto 800 when I switched to the Corrado. The renewal 2 months later was £600, then this year £400. Im hoping for under 300 this time round. For a 1.7k car I'd consider 3PFT
  22. Colin you've hit another peeve - lane discipline at roundabouts. Too many people drive too quickly around them and therefore cut lanes to avoid potential loss of control - although I bet they could do it if only they tried, but no, instead they mindlessly cut lanes and wonder why my proper peep on the horn was given as Im alongside. Only today I was in lane 2 in a busy area coming to an island and Miss Saab ahead booted it; good for her. Mr small van in lane 1 was going about 8mph less than the limit and she cut across his nose before the island and stopped* (another peeve of mine - poor Mr mimi-van). So obviously I kept to lane 2, got a rolling start and we drove ahead - but thats exactly what she tried to do, rather than stay in lane. However being 1/2 a car length ahead, when I kept in lane she had to brake; she then overtook me 200yds later and frowned @ me - her driving was terrible and I bet she wouldnt dare do those manouvers with plod about. Kev - I think we're in a major minority !! .......... have you ever noticed these slower drivers choose to stick to 40 even when they reach a 30? Oh and people can say "sit back and relax, dont get involved". I try this and it doesnt work, because even slow driving etc doesnt help as people still cut lane along with all other bad habbits. The best thing I find is to predict thier poor manouver and get out of the way , to slow or drive ahead.
  23. bad luck - its not cheap either same happened to me a short while back and chipsaway wanted £130 for a chip third the size of a 5p. I saw her do it and she coughed over £90. Although when I asked chips to come he said he couldnt do it anymore because of the lack of space & power at my work; still waiting to get it done somewhere. I now park at an angle in a corner space where doors cant reach me.
