  1. Have you done it yet Neil ? I saw this thread. It seems a popular upgrade; let me know what problems you encountered, if any.
  2. It stops much better than the old Mk2 Golf I had, but its still a gradual process, slightly spongy too (could be improved with braided hoses). The ABS lightly judders on and off sometimes, not a nice feeling, which kinda tells me that the brakes can do no more than that, and bigger ones would only do the same. Maybe some fatter tyres will ask more of these average brakes.
  3. I always insist that they use stick-on weights with my alloys, as people have said that the clipons damage the wheel and cause corrosion. If you have had these for some years, its likely that they have corroded over time (cleaning can be a pain), even slightly kerbed them. So as several people say, get the tyres off (for free normally if you promise to take them back for refitment) and refurb them your self if the damage is minor. I used a light file then emory to get a perfectly smooth rim (lol) and then sprayed laquor as required. Avoiding creating any hollows/dips in the rim (both inner and outer edges). The tyre should fit perfectly. Avoid kerbing the wheel at all costs. ;)
  4. are you on lower stiffer suspension? And have you hit some big potholes or even bumped up a kerb? If not, the BBS could have to help you out. Fleabay always have odd wheels going - isn't that off a Mk3 Golf ?
  5. general maintenance; although the plugs looked very good and the car is running well, they hadnt been changed in my 15k of ownership - new Bosh from GSF put in. Nicely done !
  6. Furk - I presume they are just after the Corrado and not some other bunch of spangly stuff - either way, try to keep such items out of sight in future. Did you say what sort of garage it is? a) If you've got a small side/back door into the brick built garage, then you have to worry about that too. But it would allow you to dead-bolt the main garage door (from inside) - BIG f***n scaffolding bar. Then secure the small door as best as your house. b) If its only one door, like mine, then I'd get an alarm. I've got a wireless sort, just over £100, that I can take to my next property and not worry about cables etc. You could even get one that contacts your mobile phone, closer to £200. Probably worth considering a type of alarm. c) If your garage attaches to the house, then great. Leave the house-door open a buy a BIG angry dog ! d) Worth considering a tracking device for the C? (I've used a lower spec item: Datatag) NB: Having said all that, if they are very determined to get your garages contents, they will. My unkle bought numerous security roller shutter doors that kept being broken into. Finally he got a super-dooper locked door and alarm system - the fekkers proceeded to ram-raid the back wall, by driving through the rear wall with a 4x4 ; but luckily the alarm went off and they scarpered.
  7. perfect, mine are overdue. What did you pay ??? I tried the sparkplugs uk site and gave the car details. Firsly mine is a 94 (2L 16v), and it gave me an engine code I didnt recognise. So I gave '91, whoch gives 9A code. This should be right....... right? The plugs they give are: BKUR7ET @ £3.78/plug BKR7EIX @ £6.99/plug ----- these dont correlate with your codes!!?? However on another site I found BCP7ET NGK Spark plugs for £2.74 each. Which should I buy? Does anyone know the plug size for the 16v 2L? (which would save me time & hassle)
  8. Nice thread but would be even better if it was easier to read - ie with photos as examples and collated into one long list. Ahh, any chance of putting it (all possible mods) into the Wiki ? Broken down into General C/VR6/G60/16v etc. Then link it upto the 'How to' pages. It would be a great page to refer to for everyone and might create some 'Must do' lists and also 'I wish I could' lists too 8)
  9. Mr Plopp has pointed out a few important and worthwhile items - by now there should be nothing stuck to the disk and no rust. (although we all get tiny sponts of rust each morning that you can rub off with your finger - ie comes off the instant you use the brakes) It does sound like warped disks with the change of judder with change of speed. Avoid knackering your new disks, bed them in, and always go gently on cold disks so as not to warp them. You must be doing some hard driving to warp them when they're hot, if thats the case - then get ventilated. Can you not check the disks to see if they are warped? However dont rule out ABS - wish I knew more about it.
  10. Very sexy!! and good buy Jim - you gotta bring it over.
  11. I was reading in the MCN today that they are lowering the threshold for speeding cameras. They said it used to be 90 in a 70, which I find hard to believe; they now think its 10% plus 2mph (which is still plenty). Maybe its a national wide thing, because Ive heard of people getting done for 33 in a 30 a couple years ago; so those must've always been strict in that region.
  12. you're telling me Chris ; I mean there was so much smoke that it covered our 3 lanes of the M6 and a good 2 lanes of the opposite direction too. So why he proceeded to carry on & blow another piston - wft :cuckoo: He was probably telling his mates... "yeh, that'l be the Afterburner"
  13. I saw the same thing only 2 weeks ago no the M6, a Cavilear went bang in the outside lane - loads of blue smoke. Guess it was a piston. 1 mile later and he did it again; I must have dropped back a good 1/3 mile behind, as did everyone else.

what more was said by the mechanic? From what you've said, it all sounds wrong - why would the spring rotate/spin? This could only happen if the spring was shorter than the length of the shock-stroke = wrong. :?: , :!: And whats this 'grease' it up? Is this common practice on a lowered car? Be sure you dont let it drip onto your discs.
  15. If you get a Red C, I wont be able to miss you. Just there are so many black Golfs in my road its silly. You wont have seen me recently as I've been getting sunburn in France watching the French MotoGP. Im back again so keep an eye out. Do you have a motor to use at the moment? Still havnt seen THE silver KA, although there are a few of those too.
  16. You lot are cruel, but oh so funny, PMSL  As Sophia took a break, Kev had a Fag (no substitute for the real thing), as he looked down at his nutz outta the window, he noticed vince/nick inspecting his Rim; it didn't look good. Kev was worried. Kev couldn't figure out why there was no forward motion even after he got a jump off the G60 in fornt.
  17. Have you been to see scarlets C yet Jim? Are you looking at any others too? Let me know when you get it. ps - how can you trust that any C hasn't been ragged unless its had one careful owner you trust; quite; just listen and use your noggin. Good luck And PLOPP
  18. her thong looks a tad tight - not a patch on the missus
  19. Are we having this conversation again (3rd time in a month)? similar Got to agree with may of the comments - two good cars not too dissimilar, so choose the one in best condition - which is most likely the newest, ie 2.0. And its said the 2.0 has more grunt/torque. The 2.0 is 4stud btw. stu
  20. Its all relative isn't it scarlet, I mean whats fast? IM-humble-O I think most modern cars will follow a standard 16v upto 60, but your modded 158bhp will make a mess of them. Just stear clear of the bigger boys. At the end of the day, I ask my self 'can I have fun in it' - and as for handling, yes I can, but for that final umph, its not quite enough; your mod is well worth doing. Oh, if its traffic light drag racing yu want, then dont get a C.
  21. skinny - xbones shows the guide. Also read the rest of the Wiki for info on the 2.0L versus the 1.8, and yup scarlet gave the answer you asked in one line. If your insruance went up £300 for the remaining 3 to 4 months, then can you afford the renewal next year, which will be higher still; although you'll hit the magic 21 by then I guess???
  22. That was good fun; until I read your spoilers and realised what I was missing, but never would've got those; RR etc. Does anyone remember that guy on YOU BET who could name all cars by looking at the rear/tail light only??
  23. Go see the Knowledge for all you need to know. Blazing Storm - I have to say that Jim has answered most of your questions although I'd say bcstudent is right to say that running costs can be low if you do most jobs your self. Yes most jobs are easy to do as its a good old simple car; unlike todays where all you see is a plastic cover. Im getting about 25mpg and would have to sit on the motorway at 65 all day to get above 30; but its partly down to a few minor servicing issues. The MAF says 29mpg - lol Insurance is a good point to consider. As I think a VR6 is about group 19, rather than the 2.0L being group 17. I presume you'd like a Storm from your name. Performance - simple, its slow in its normal guise; I've seen sites say 0-60 in 8.2, but others say 10secs, and I'd tend to agree with the latter, which means you'll get seen off by a sporty Fiesta. However, realise its got a 2.0, so that means you can get plenty out of it if you wanted to. Oh and dont forget the torque and burble of that exhaust. But ask your self why you want one, is it for perfomance or style or a particular love for VW ???? Im getting the idea its the first one, so yeh stick with what you got, save up for an Evo or whatever meets your requirements. Realise that this car is old technology, normal cars nowadays will see off a box-standard Corrado; you got to spend some money on a C to bring it upto todays standards, especially a 2.0L. Why not save up for a pokey Leon or whatever; dont listen to your dad or unkle who might have had one 10 years ago, saying its the Mutz-nutz (although it is IMO). But if you are serious about getting a Corrado, then check the whole buying guide and other information on the car here CLICK
