  1. RP - had any luck so far? I dont get why you were using the trolley to put it back on. In the past on the Golf and Corrado Ive just popped the assembled spring/shock up into the mount, and lightly screwed it up. Then I lift the rear axle with my hand upto the shock and put in the big bolt (sometimes requiring a wiggle and poking through a screwdriver to help me align it). ie Im saying on the VW's there is nothing stopping me putting the shock up into the housing with my hands. Then I lower the car and tighten the top up. I never needed compressors on the rear - only the fronts; just body weight alone can compress them enough to put that top nut on, ensuring it screws all the way down. Let us know how u got on Stu
  2. Sounds like a good buy to me. As you say, although Phatvr6 tyres look sh*gged, you only want them for 1,000 miles/year and not on the track. Seems PhatVR just needed a bit of higher pressure to stop the balling up of the rubber on what I expect to be a hot day at Donny. I had Toyo's on mine; was bit unsure of this cheapo make, but they soon changed my mind once I got going; they were super grippy in the dry and predictable in the wet.
  3. Not a bad idea. It also helps clean the drive and many other items ; just don't go jetting any bearings directly, lol. Not sure of spec's off the top of my head, but there are loads of other places that do them at those kinda prices
  4. reaper - What do the engine revs do when you floor it at that moment? From your comments I presume you can tell when its going to happen... so what are the tell-tale signs? "looks as if its going to jump out the engine bay" - why? how?
  5. Someone was looking over you - that those lucky stars. Just the other day I checked my bolts all round, as I felt juddering in the steering wheel, but all ok; now wondering if weights have fallen off. I've know bike mechanics not to tighten the fork leg lower clamp that holds the wheel in - tut
  6. Cheers Andy. I suspect its the little old mechanism. Was worried the plastic would be like the mk2 I had, oh well; will try your surgeon cut-it-open-at-the-top idea. The actual seals around the window are good; nice furry inner edges not perished, opposed to the old mk2 where the bottom had shrunk and left a huge gap - too large for the holes to cope with. Its all fun & games. :) But do you know if the mechanism is the same as the mk2 :?: (ie simple) Stu
  7. The drivers window gets stuck half way down. So I have to press the button again and it slowly goes down with a big effort. Same on the up motion. Any ideas of the cause - is it common? And is it easy to fiddle with the mechanism? Just I remember the old Golf stuff was all behind a plastic weather sheet and it was reluctant to stick back to the door-frame.
  8. For peice of mind, with your capabilities, it'd be nice to overhaul the brakes. I mean drop out the fluid and everything; replace discs and pads as a set if anything is wrong with them. ebay hey?VW VOLKSWAGEN RACING LANYARD KEY RING?
  9. ARB 's - recommend a make or type? Supplier? Im curious; i get plenty of roll, but the car turns in plenty quick enough, it almost ties its self in knots.
  10. You say it turns over, i guess you mean the starter motor kicks round. Have you checked the plugs? Are they sparking?
  11. gradeA - you've not said what the drops are :?: Maybe H&R only do one drop height, I wouldn't know. You say that Lauras car on 16" rims gives the harsher ride over the 17"'s, is this because she is on lower springs? I think that would be the best compromise, a hard spring with a 16" wheel that has enough tyre wall to soak up those pot-holes; for the road that is. My own 2-penny: Ive got some Bilstein shocks that do a lovely job. Put the standard spings on and don't like them; lots of roll. The previous cheapo springs -40 gave a solid ride combined with the 17"/40prof' , super stable. Im sure the 40 drop springs gave a bigger drop to the front (ie maybe only 35 at the back), and this made the car feel much more poised - now on standard, I feel like im looking up at the sky.
  12. Seriously, no it doesnt work. Infact I dont let Gunk get onto my driveway because that stains too, you gotta wet the drive first. An old oil stain is there to stay, unless someone knows of a specific product that does this; the brick blocks are very porus and you will struggle. Gunk is great for getting oil & grease off metal and paint etc; never let it get on rubber.
  13. My 2-penny..... both look good; you want a good design alloy. Yet the 16" seems the best compromise for handling and comfort.
  14. Bling - are they on yet - can we see? Are you having those funny american pnematic kits?
  15. why do that to a C or any car? Its bling interior yet has a roll-cage - which is supposed to be, practical or flash? Seats look nice
  16. Can anyone confirm the following. I would look in my handbook, but its packed away after moving house and if I cannot find my watch, theres no chance I can find the holy book. My question is... On Friday it was raining and bored sat in the traffic I noticed the (intermitent) slow speed was too slow, yet fast was too fast. I counted that on slow speed it took 7 seconds between each wipe. Then I noticed that when I put it back to neutral (off) then quickly back onto slow, it then went faster at one wipe every 3 seconds. Sure enough, putting it into off, then back to slow it went back to 7 seconds. I never knew this before... anyone else knew this? Is it in the handbook? yeh yeh, I was bored and sat in terrible traffic that day, lol
  17. I often see a GSF van on the way into Brum, going under the M6 by the Spine road. whos-at?
  18. blue - I dont see how the 95 will be different to the 94. Im sure all are same since 92 - or is that just cat related? Anyhow, you got the mounts - what next? Keep us posted

    Brakes

Dont know if this is anything like on the bike. Pads and discs can make a huge difference; each giving their own feel. Do you like them grabby or gradual etc etc. Hard call on the bike. Would it be a good idea to upgrade the hoses to braded too? (huge difference on bike again, even though such a short length)
  20. Pete - nice one. You never did mention water temp. Was this high too? If not, then yeh Id wouldve worried too. I mean 115 is fine and add another 10 is fine too. These oils can take massive temps. Just ensure that water doesnt get above 115 ever. ;)
  21. If you're getting a new water pump to fit your self, buy VAG. I bought the g s f for the Golf and was one tatty peice of work, nasty rough edges etc. Im sure you know to ensure all surfaces are clean when putting back together and use a new seal
  22. tarche - sounds good to me. Im standard and appreciate it. However I did have 40 drop and 17"s before and handling was excellent, like a Go-kart. Please do read around on the forum and use the search for threads on handling, drops, etc. It is all down to YOUR personal oppinion. Why not test drive a dropped C? Plenty of freindly people here or alternatively take a cheeky test drive of one for sale; only problem is they may have a dodgy setup / wrong. Best thing to do is ride around and enjoy it !!! 8) (save some cash £) As for cost of a drop.... I'd do it my self. Then get tracking checked by garage.
  23. #1 YES #2 Yes she can swallow
  24. Harry - yeh, Im surprised too; I mean thats quite a lot, Id be expecting less; drive harder !!! Anyhow Harry, don't believe what the MFA says; the only way to know for sure is to DIY. My MFA always says 25mpg yet it gets 4 more than that on mixed use, town use is about 20+4 for me in the 2.0L. C says "ooh, Optimax, yum yum"
  25. Give them the opportunity to do the work again. YOU want to see the 'mirror' for your self and see all is as it should be. Then if it is set correctly, start scratching your heads. Is the tracking and camber all ok? Yes make sure its not toed inward, as you say its light on steering. Id possibly try another garage just to ask them to 'check' the setting is ok; thus cancelling out the posibility of faulty machinery. Is the st-wheel back on centre? Did they just pop it off and back on straight? You say it was all ok before it went in. I presume the tyres were wearing evenly? Because if they were not, indicating odd setup before, then the standard setting would feel very odd.
