  1. Still got life in your brake pads? NB: the squeak and knock doesn't need to be related - but could be
  2. If its not the old 'mouse trapped in the front wing' problem, it could be so many things. [1] Slow turning on full lock, resulting in a clunking sound usually means bearings - so yes, please do check for a cracked boot too. [2] Springs and suspension can squeak if rusty or half broken. [3] YES engine mounts can "squeak" & "knock" - if the rubber perishes it will fill with water and rust the innards of that mount; the pivot will squeck and the thud of the engine as it hits* the mount will create that loud clunk noise! *upon firm acceleration the engine twists, and thus pivot poins and rubber mounts are fitted. If there is no rubber joint acting as it should, you get Metal on Metal. You can test this "knock" on your driveway, by agressivly dropping the clutch in 1st and then bringing it back in again, forcing the engine to 'rock' - helps if you have the bonnet open and someone peeking at the motor to see it rocks. If it doesnt make a sound on this test, then your mounts are fine! Try somthing else...
  3. Those widths are fine, as the front 6.5 will take a 205 tyre - which is what really shows and makes the difference. The rears 7.5 can be 225 tyre , which will look fat. Side-on, I see your point about a 15" rim looking lost. Personally I 'm very unsure; I think my 15" BBS look small - but its all down to your preference. You need to piccy examples on a C....
  4. Its entirely up to you. They just look like a BBS replica
  5. oh I see. Well, Mrs Rado is my olny love, so she gets all the attention she needs - but come summer she'll be miffed when I get out Ms R6 and give her a good thrashing! - omg , listen to me, what am I saying, I sound like a nutter!
  6. Im sure it stops quicker than my 2.0 lump - we had a Mk1 - it was like a Go-kart. :) Modern cars stop so quickly its scary in an older car. So if you've got enough £ for new braided hoses, fat tyres, new calipers, disks and pads, then you'll be an eye-poping stopper!
  7. You learn somthing every day - cheers. Like i say, its not a bright flash, nor is it just the light catching it; im sure; as the nature has changed this week and i no longer get it. I heard the rumour about 10% before and saw the logic to it, just sometimes you hear people getting done for 33 in a 30 - maybe they're fibbing.
  8. Probably the best place to be - infact, its the only reason you'd want to go to Coventry, as its a hole ! lol "Woody" as in they smell like pine? They're rough?
  9. Replaced the main radiator hose which split on me en-route home. Ohhh, nice new rubber hose, exciting stuff. Bargain price of £5.50 from GSF 8)
  10. A duel carriageway has been reduced to a 50mph and two cameras placed on it. Now when my old man bought a GPS, he just had to test it, and one of those tests was to check the accuracy of my speedo. We found it to be 1mph under all the way. Knowing the accuracy of my speedo, Im confident to go through speed cameras on the dot. However on this above mentined road, I find the front facing camera seems to flash at me. Ive never seen one go off before, but this one certainly gives a glassy glint. And no its not the sun, and it has done it everyday. It doesnt do it when cars infront go through at about 46mph. However this week it no longer does it, but i can see the glass lense inside. I dont want to test it at higher speeds to see if its thresh-hold has been lifted (if thats what you'd call it). Anyone know why it was doing that? Do cameras record people 'on the limit' ? It stupidly amazing how many people drive at 60 - 70 on this road and slow down for the cameras - they're a waste of time !!!
  11. Apparently my missus thought she saw me behind her in Kenilworth - she waved, but it turned out to be some random
  12. Coventry - on that last misserable Saterday, saw dark C on edge of Cov, not far from A46 southbound, pulling out of some ind-est. He gave a nod but dad was wittering on about somthing, my mind was lese where. He followed as far as the A46 roundabout - guess he went into Cov center.
  13. As the car was sat about so long, is it worth greasing up all the moving parts? I take it there is a clutch cable?
  14. Cost - MORE THAN THE CAR ? from experience... Respray same colour = £1000 to 2000 One new colour, inc base coat = £2000 to 3000 Two colours ?
  15. I laughed about it after, especially when another girly did a 3lane swap without indicators, i just thought 'another one of those days' :)
  16. Im a tad worried that if the camera has taken a pic of you without the lights in the shot - is this possible? Otherwise the above peeps are correct, and those points should make no difference to your insurance. However as soon as you dispute this, you get asked to produce all your documents, so make sure they're all in order. Asking for the photo can be tricky cant it? . Thats cos your pastie is covering up your plate  . - How true is that? As when you make that split second decision, you may apply the old accelerator and speed up as the camera flashes. twoddle
  17. Ok, we've all seen people speed then brake for a speed camera, but when it interfers with me and my car, Im gonna get real miffed. A quiet run into work, Birmingham, down a sneaky duel carriageway used to be a fast route in at 70. Now its down to 50mph and two speed cams fitted. Not wanting to be caught out I just stick to the 50. The road yesterday was very quiet. A streem of three cars in the outside lane slowly catching me up; a taxi, bmw and MG roadster. 1st camera round the next bend is due and the taxi slides past me then across my nose, gets a gap onme then BRAKES down to 42pmh - flash flash ****er! Whilst the BM sticks on my rear corner stopping me popping out to maintain my correct speed. Taxi gone, BM up ahead and the MG is creeping past. Good girl kept in the outside lane the whole time and why not when the road is empty. Hold, the silly bint has swept across my bonnet with about 2ft to spare. Say nothing, as assume she will carry on at her 53-ish, camera due in 800yrds. Nope the silly bint is slowing down, whats this, we're doing 48, right a nice close pullout and creep back past her. Stupid b*tch wants a new speedo. Binter follows me through at 49, only 600 yrds to stopped queing traffic (dunno how long its been there). Ease off in outside lane, ready for que upto island to take turning at 1-oclock; BM just ahead in lane 1. Whys stupid binter easing up my inside on BM's bumper? Anyhow im braking for the stopped cars ahead. F*** F*** B***, pulls into my lane fully on her ABS brakes, in as we all know icy conditions. FLASH. ~ stupid binter is shaking her head as she stares at me in her central mirror, waving her finger.
  18. What? Having driven all that you mention, its not like any Golf. However if im to pick one, its got to be the Mk2 G60 for fun factor. However, whilst the Mk2G60 felt like a go-kart, you sit higher in it, even on lower springs. The C feels much better, you get a cocoon feel from the higher sides or lower seat from this Coupe - you'll like it. You feel like you're following the front end wherever you point it, whilst the Mk2-G60 felt like a box stuck to the road. Also as someone said; its more refined in comparison, but dont forget its 10yrs old. ;)
  19. Seen the Mk5 about and liked it in comparison to the Mk4 which looks too fat unless you put a kit on it. The C looks so small these days. If you stood lower (or i took the pic) the C would look better. Then side on there is no contest !
  20. 205/40/17 will fit on a 7" wide wheel, so... 205 is the minimum i would go. Look around, but Im sure you could go up to a 225 tyre, but as the width gets greater, the profile % must come down a tad, or else make an allowance for your speedo; we're talking fractions. Make? - you pick. Look about on here, lots of discussion. Seem decent: Toyo, Yokohama, Michelin. Not used Continentals or Avon yet.
  21. butt... Trying to figure how to attach a thumb which acts a link to bigger pic. http://upload.the-corrado.net/files/74/Corrado%2016v%20Stu/Wallpaper%20Corrado%205d.jpg Stus Wallpaper 16v
  22. your drop should be fine 40 to 60mm. Mine at 40 was fine even with a 205 tyre with a 38et. Im now running 195 tyres on a 7" rim. I would NOT do this again, the tyre is too narrow for happy handling / it looks odd too - to a degree. Try a 205 tyre
  23. Bally - looking at page 1, the car looks lovely; tad envious. Normally i dont like em too low and don't usually like debadged grilles; bit its a minimal look that works for me, very cool. 8)
