  1. It was more the Golf VR6's back in the day - surprised we keep getting threads about this - I thought it was a well known thing.
  2. Yep, you need a pair of pliers as well to act as a heatsink - obviously it's a thermal fuse so you don't want to blow it whilst soldering!
  3. I can see the Toadster trying to sniff your hand at the next show!
  4. http://www.vwspares.co.uk/product_info. ... cts_id=495
  5. Yep, that's correct - you don't need the sleeve with the solid ones.
  6. The resister pack just clips in but if it's only working on speed 4 (unresisted) then chances are you will either need a new one if it's blown (£20 from VW) or the Thermal fuse replacing This costs 57p from Maplins and requires soldering
  7. Yep same as a mk2 unless you have air con. Not easily serviceable so best to just replace - around £65 from VW
  8. Nice one - thought it sounded like that from your first post! Glad you got it sorted and thanks for updating the thread
  9. Me too - as long as service parts are good you shouldn't have any issues check this thread for pics - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=28025&hilit=clean+engine+results I wouldn't use GUNK by the way, it's good but there are better products out there now that don't stink!
  10. The 2.0 8v is a very reliable and extremly economic unit but I can't think of a single performance upgrade that would be worth the money... Even a simple induction kit is more likely to mess up the AFM signal. If you want performance the the late 8v's are ideal bases for engine conversions or just buy a G60!
  11. Stu - I very much doubt the Rod to rack nuts are rounded as these are 32mm and under the steering rack boots so you should be able to get new track rods to fix the issue. The ones that are rounded will be the smaller exposed ones from the Track rod to the end which are used to adjust tracking. It's fairly common I think for garages that aren't used to dealing with VW's to tell customers they need a new Steering rack when just the rod is required!
  12. I'd maybe get a second opinion - will most likely just need new track rods fitting - less that £100 a pair from VW.
  13. Yep - starting furthest away from the ABS valve block to the nearest one.
  14. Hmmm - yeah these are a mare to fit and most I have seen have the cut outs for the ABS sesnor wiring... I'd maybe think about selling yours and buying another
  15. Yep - 2 types early and late - I suspect a previous owner got the wrong part from GSF etc and had to chop the plug to get it to fit...
  16. Tuned in late but that tunnel bit was good - I bet it wasn't actually Clarkson driving though!
  17. Ok, you've done all the usual stuff then... maybe a lambda fault? could try unplugging it, if it makes no difference then it's probably shot. You really need to get it on VAGCOM - those Snap-On readers don't seem to like the 9A engine but it's more to do with the engine as you need to use v409.0 or later of VAGCOM with the baud rate set to 4,800 for the 9A only.
  18. Some more info might help like when it was last serviced or what's been changed recently? As ignition parts break down you can get HT misfires at low RPM or at idle but the car can run fine as the engine speed picks up. Deffo something wrong if your getting less than 20mpg! - I'd also check for vac leaks and try and get it on VAGCOM to see if there are any fault codes.
  19. LOL, Yeah Coke did the job on 'the beast' (MK3 1054cc Polo) except I didn't take the pistons out - just poured coke into the bores, lol
  20. You say "old fluid?" - how old is it?
  21. Have you disconnected the other stuff on that circuit?
  22. Nope - it's not got the extra mounting points - the only MK2 Gold one you can use is off a G60
  23. There is a rod with a white clip from the actuator - seen a few of these break or the clips come out.... Have a look under the black cover - parts cost pennies from VW
  24. I had a MK2 GTi without PAS and it was ok but after having another with it I wouldn't go back and especially not on a Corrado! I hear what your saying about the extra parts etc but the PAS on a Corrado is great - perfectly weighted and gives great feedback from the road
