Yeah - there is a fair amount of power going through it and the FP relay
-
Ok, that very much sounds like conrod bearings - usually go at around 100k on G60 engines
-
Toady - is the file you download called release4091s.exe ? If so I got a corrupt version from the ross tech site which was only 1.02MB and came up with a CRC error when going through the installer - I downloaded again and got the full 1.11MB file and it appears to work ok. Just been doing some testing, tried several versions and works fine for me but i've only got a 32bit machine here... I might try my laptop at home later which is 64bit and try and get it running as I think that is the problem. As for uninstalling, you simply need to delete the VAGCOM folder under C:\program files and also the Start menu folder too

The S2 25mm one is not an ABS MC The standard ABS one is £215 + vat from Eurocarparts but it's a TRW part not ATE so best to stick with VAG I reckon... Any chance you can stick a pic up of the VW one when you get it?
-
That will explain the mayo then - I had a MK2 golf with the same issue! Knocking noise - we could do with a bit more info but I'd change the oil first incase it was contaminated
-
It's an O ring mate - course it's still available and will cost about £1  In fact I don't think there is any part of a G60 engine you can't buy brand new as they are still so popular!
-
As above I wouldn't drive it at all! Who did the engine work? What grade oil is it running? did the oil pump get replaced?
-
horrific squealing and loss of power steering

Also check to see if you are missing the belt cover as this helps keep water away from it -
I'd say it would be almost a shame to port it if it is original... as long as it's in good condition inside just got for a straight rebuild, if everything else is working ok you should see 30+ mpg easily!
-
Are you loosing water? If coolant is in the oil then you will get a knocking sound from the engine... I'd change the oil as a matter of course. How tight is the dipstick guide tube? pattern parts don't seal very well and you get the condensation on the dipstick like you describe.

If it's never been done you're very lucky that little timing belt hasn't snapped yet!
-
Fairly sure these are not obsolete yet
-
I suppose you wouldn't normally change it unlike the DMF's but on a 15 year old car it wouldn't be a bad idea as like Kev says they are cleaper than the clutch kit itself! I suppose it's like brake discs needing doing every 2-3 pad changes, if it's on high miles then I would do it. Also on a VR - do you go to the bother of changing the clutch and not doing the chains / tensioners??
-
Just go to VW - cheap as chips! 051198119 £19 + vat trade
-
About £5k :)
-
Wood you big :camp: Good to see you back!
-
All of them - a pressurised system is always going to fail at it's weakest point. Most of those hoses will be 15 years old now!
-
Why are most of our panels stamped mexico Eric? Did the sheet metal come from VAG in Mexico and then pressed at Osnabuch?
-
£100 a panel is a good guide price, more if there is any rust and large or large amounts of small dents.... I'd start with getting quotes for a front end job as it's best to get it all done so it blends - usually can find somewhere good that will do it for £500 cash and maybe £600 with the rear bumper too.
-
It's actually longer Dave and twice the price - it has a smaller mesh inside to protect the charger... Other than that they are mostly the same, just VW went to the 'longlife' filter for the MK3 Golf which is used in the 2E and 9a engines, the KR uses the original MK2 one and the VR uses a cartridge type.
-
An Auto VR holds 9.5 Litres so 2 x 1.5 Ltr bottles of G12++ with water should be fine.
-
I think it's just the colour code but if that's all thats available then both numbers are technically the same...
-
LOL - as above there is an arrow on the plastic carrier too!
-
That part number is for the G60 filter - unique to the G60 engine. The 9A uses the longlife filter - £3 from VW.
