Front brake flexi hoses questions (SEARCHED!)
Supercharged replied to boost monkey's topic in Drivetrain
They are deffo ealy G60 calipers matey - the only ones that had the metal pipes attached, all the VR's got the later, mk3 hoses and connection for the brakes high up in the arch... That Toad boy is having a giraffe! But, these are what you need as your car is early so the hoses you have are 350mm long then they will be fine but yes, you need to keep the metal bit on the caliper - I'd make a new one up if you can tho! -
Front brake flexi hoses questions (SEARCHED!)

Ok, you've got early spec G60 calipers there and the pipes that come off them are about £6 each from VW if you need new ones (or cheaper if you make them up yourself) If your car has the late type connector for the brakes (N chassis onwards - high up in the wheel arch) then you can do away with the metal pipes and just fit the late G60 hoses (male and female ended) but if you have an early car (upto 50-M-035000) with the connector low down in the arch then these hoses will be to long so you need to keep the metal bits on the caliper and fit the female/female hoses as in the pic above - I have a pair of goodridge ones I will sell if needed, say £20 delivered. Hope that makes sense!!! -
I used an air impact wrench :D Get someone to stand on the brakes...

Yep - fairly sure you can't so this without removing the hub nut and the bottom ball joint. You need to belt the flat side of the joint - I had probelms doing my TDI one and in the end it seemed easier to take the whole driveshaft off and stick it in a vice, came off easily then with a couple of hard blows!
-
I think the clip is under the joint itself - you need to belt it with a soft faced mallet

Have you checked your fuses??? If so then the FP relay is knackered - try tapping it to free it up

Credit card or credit to hard work?
Supercharged replied to boost monkey's topic in General Car Chat
Prodigal - very good point there about building up a credit rating too and mortgages! -
...you put the chin spoiler on the wrong end and completly ruin the look of a fairly original looking car How awful does this look!!
-
Hehe - there is a blue / white wire for the speed signal, you need to unconnect that from the stereo and insulate it, spoiler will be fine then. 8)
-
Have you installed a stereo recently??

He lives in Suffolk as well Tom...

Whey! - Nice one Liam, glad you got to the bottom of it!!

Yeah good point - the figures I quoted were just what i'd read to be honest and may not be that accurate... As for topping up, should be no need as the level is a good indicator of how worn your pads are...

Credit card or credit to hard work?
Supercharged replied to boost monkey's topic in General Car Chat
Yep - buy everything I can on credit card with 4-7 week interest free credit and I also get the insurance cover on the stuff I buy and cashback. As Toad does I just set up a DD to pay off in full each month being careful not to spend cash I don't have... The other good money saving trick is to take out a card with an interest free on purchases deal, I do this every year or whenever I know I want to make a big purchase, I currently have about 7k on a 12 month interest free deal with about 4 months left I think, I have the 7k to pay it off but it's currently earning me money in a high interest account. Look at it like a business, it's all about managing your cashflow and not spending money you can't afford to (difficult with a Corrado I know!) -
These aren't actually snap-on tho - made by a company called Palmera, superb quality!

It's a strange thing, the fluid will absorb water almost by magic, they reckon after a year it's 5% water, after 2 years it can be as high as 12% - I always change mine yearly... Air causes sponeyness and these bubbles are usually caused by incorrect bleeding or the fluid being boiled by hard use or a binding caliper / faulty bearing etc, thats where 5.1 fluid comes in for track days etc as it has a higher boiling point.

Yandards' Nugget G60 - gone but not forgotten..
Supercharged replied to Yandards's topic in Members Gallery
Especially if you have an almost complete and mint Corrado 16VG60 in there plus about £10k's worth of new VW parts plus another 2 grand invested in Autoglym  -
LOL - you know this is the Corrado forum! :) Are you serious!?! - no wonder it's failed an MOT, probably dangerous to drive too!!
-
As long as the fluid is ok the it will be the caliper - either buy a seal kit or new exchange caliper (no expensive altho I'd buy a pair if both old)
-
I bought mine from VW - £80 ish with good discount.

Good man, thought it might be a fuse as I suggested on the phone... 15 years old now, it's worth changing all fuses, critical relays etc for new ones - no messin. -
Radness - it's the thermoswitch plug you need to short - it's a brass 3 pin thing half way down the right hand side of the rad (between the top and bottom hoses on a VR or G60) Plug for this is on the same bit of loom as the big plug for the fan motor itself.

Nice use of a tractor there... :) -
Genuine is £132 trade inc vat and comes with the elbow - I wouldn't use any thing else, last muchlonger and much better cooling that pattern parts.

They won't be taking the engine out to change the cams dude, just the manifold and top cover off... You want a cam cover gasket, camshaft oil seals, the upper inlet gasket and also ones for the throttle body plus maybe some new bolts.
