You'll need good flat ground to use the ramps anyway... Just get the oil extracter Jim, I'm sure it will come in useful for other stuff too - I was only taking the p1ss in the first post as I prefer to do it the old fashioned way... I'd still advise doing a sump oil change every 2 or 3 times and change the plug (you have to as it's an alloy sump) just to get it all out...
-
It does yeah, especially in a G60 or VR6!
-
No. - they are no where near big enough for Corrado size wheels... I looked into this and you need to spend about £100 to get ones that are up to the job... I just use a Halfords 2 Tonne Jack with a pair of axle stands which were free with them...
-
Fair enough... It's just lying on your back and getting oil in yer hair is all part of the fun! It's 4.3 ltres and I got a box of the Quantum PD stuff (red lable) as it's alot cheaper than the VW longlife oil (plus I change it reguarly anyway) I bought 4x5ltrs for about £75 from Audi (but I had to order a box of 4) Your best off going to GSF and buying 1 for £25ish and the filter is about a fiver (again the GSF ones are the same just in a bosch box..)

You lazy get! The problem with these is that you won't get everything out of the sump...
-
Same as MK2 but you can just buy the bulbs seperatly from VW (pence)
-
Nope, only for the early bonnets, it's about £75 the set...
-
You may as well whip the cover off Sam abd have a look so you know what your in for after xmas...

is it worth having the vr6 flywheel balanced ?????
Supercharged replied to jekvr6's topic in Engine Bay
For £40 it's probably a good idea as you can get to it easily and a new clutch is going in... is that Scholar engines in Eye? Are you getting it lightend? bear in mind that new flywheels are less than a ton from VW... -
Arse! - you had the cam cover off to have a look whats going on?
-
triggermyson, she's talking about the temp gauge - nothing to do with the interior heater....
-
disconnect the battery for 15 mins and see if it makes a difference...
-
Sounds about right it this weather... worth checking that the thermostat is not stuck open tho...
-
Yeah, it's different - don't think the lambda would affect it...
-
Spoiler - check you fuses (all of them as they moved it around a bit) Temp Gauge - the sender is the black one on the plastic housing the front of the head (next to the blue one) Check the plug and the wiring, the remove both plugs and measure resistance across the pins and compare... Most likely the black one is knackered but I'd replace the blue one too as it's crucial to the G60's engine management - the other way to test the blue one is to start the engine then unplug it and the revs should drop (not cut out) Both sensors will be less than £20 from VAG.

Right - looked a the 'excellent condition' VR6 &........

Yeah - walk away, it sounds a shed, far more better examples around at the moment... With rear tyres that don't match, calipers that need replacing and no ABS you wonder what else is wrong! -
Flat spot in low revs and slight increase in tappet noise
Supercharged replied to matth76's topic in Engine Bay
Jesus - did that actually get done in a day - alot of work there, must have cost a bit!! Tappet noise - can't really think of any reason it would be louder usless it's just being amplified by the SS manifold... did the oil get changed and if so what did they use (thinner oils may cause tappets to become noisy) Half your engine has been taken apart today so you really need to get it on VAGCOM to have a look and check everything is responding and go thru the basic settings... -
Brakes - Can't unbolt caliper carrier from hub...ideas pls ?
Supercharged replied to danp's topic in Drivetrain
You tried a 6 sided socket? -
It should run after the engine is switched off to cool the engine bay, the fuel pump will also circulate at the same time but an hour or 2 after is a bit excessive...
-
First one looks good for the price if the condition is good and everything works... The problem is that most VR's on the market are getting to the stage where the chains will need doing... the first one has had a new clutch but no mention of the chains being done...

Brakes - Can't unbolt caliper carrier from hub...ideas pls ?
Supercharged replied to danp's topic in Drivetrain
Yeah, it is... I only see it at the smaller motor factors for some reason... -
Welcome to the forum... You need to check things like the ISV, throttle switches.. Blue temp sender and the 1m Vac hose that goes to the ECU Also look for boost/vac leaks... Whereabouts are you as as specialist like G-werks could probably trace the problem quite quickly...
-
Nah - they cause problems because people don't use new ones when changing disks!
-
Oh and the ECU is located in the side panel by the passenger footwell, if you have had a leak into the car then the plug maybe corroded, worth having a look and giving it a squirt of WD! What VAGCOM errors are you getting?
-
The relays are located behind the glovebox... They may be expensive so maybe best to swap them with another car?
