    The upper one is important as it stops the gear linkage absorbing heat but the lower one is really only there to protect the car and stop you catching fire whilst parked on long grass! I took mine off and I dont part in long grass...

    Check first for signs of a leak - fluid ontop of the gearbox and check the level in the resevoir You might not see much tho as they leak internally at first...

    Hehe - Bloke up our road ran his battery down on his new Beemer, borrowed our charger then spent the next 10 mins looking for the battery under the bonnet

    Sounds like syncro wear or gear shift allignment, may help changing the Gbox oil...

    Maybe just early signs of wear in the gear change stick bushes but it probably is not a good idea to drive along with your hand on the stick (not put any force on it anyway)

    You need to change the slave (and maybe master too) and bleed the system...

    I think there used to going to these Vauxhall shows where people are pleased to get stupid readings as they don't have a clue what they should be in the first place but if i'd gone on there and got a silly figure i'd have wanted my money back!

    Yeah, it was very inaccurate, some bloke was ranting becuase he got 220bhp out of a standard G60....hmmm

    You'd never have guessed the engine cover was blue under all that dirt! :wink:

    I think its not unusual to get a petrol smell off the filter but it shouldn't be soaked in it!
