Heres a pic of the float unit - the silver part is the lift pump with the strainer underneath...
-
OK, cheers for your help so far guys... a bit more investigation this evening - The part number of the external pump is 171 906 091A and was Bosch, the one he bought from GSF is a Pierburg unit but is listed on the invoice with the same part number, It was different as it came with a jacket attached to it, the original one did not and also the check valve on the new one is different, the old one looks like it has a non return mech (should we swap these??) - the new one did fit but only just (not as good as the original) The worrying thing is VW say it should be a 4 bar pump and his is only 3 we think?? - Also talking to Kev earlier, he said that the K Jet system should be 75PSI which equates to 5.35 bar.... Part 2 - It does not seem to exist on ETKA but there is a lift pump which is also very noisy so I think this will be the next one to try and is hopefully cheaper than the other one! - Bosch 191 906 092 Hopefully I was right in thinking that one had put more strain on the other one and we just changed the wrong pump to start with - especially as I can't find it on ETKA for any Golf Cab - atho Gav did but this is not Digifant. If this does not work we'll try the accumulator and maybe the mk2 relay - the new pump does seem to run by the way and is noticably quieter that the origianal so i think needed replaceing anyway - just not as badly as the lifter!
-
Cheers guys, was wondering about the accumulator after looking on ETKA....
-
You should have suggested that they could use there time to catch criminals rather than looking for imaginary car parts.... but that would be stupid!
-
Cheers mate but he fitted one at the same time... ( I will check with him tho and it may be worth trying another one incase its blocked of something silly) looking on ETKA etc it looks like the engine code should be DX and there is only the ext fuel pump but he has been under the cover and there is definetly a pump-like device in the tank!

Bit of a prob with my mates 1990 Golf Clipper Cabriolet... The fuel pump (external unit) has been getting noisy for a while, on the way to GSF to get a new one it cut out completly, then would not start at all - he eventually bought the part and fitted but has since only been able to turn the engine, it splutters for a few seconds then dies. We think there is also a pump in the tank (accesed under rear seat) - could it be that one has gone at the same time? or maybe the fact that it was not working properly was causing the other one to become more and more noisy? It is a 1.8 8v GTi - K jet (not sure of engine code off hand), we don't think its the idle valve or 5th Injector as it cut out when going along, any advice welcome before he shells out for another pump!

RAF Bentwaters is a good site and is certainly big enough to hold the event but there is a bit of a problem with road access as the dual carriageway ends at Woodbridge and the roads just don't have the capacity for that many cars decending on a single place for 2 days let alone everyone leaving at once!! I still think its a good location for it tho (obviuosly) but was suprised at last years lack of european cars with Felixstowe and Harwich being so close with good road links, hopefully we'll get more of a presence this year but like I said earlier the organisation and planning of the whole event leaves alot to be desired! The main reason, as Kev says, that the event got stopped at the TRL was bassically 'max power' to$$ers pissing about and I think it was the noise from sound off's etc that really that was really the last straw! The good thing about Woodbridge is that there are loads of good pubs (Adnams), restaurants, hotels and B&B's around, for anyone wanting a nice hotel for the weekend with good parking etc try... Seckford Hall on 01394 385678 http://www.seckford.co.uk/ Or Ufford Park on 01394 383555 http://www.uffordpark.co.uk/ Both have lesuire facilities, gym, swimming pool and golf courses near by.

Can you pick me up on your way thru... I don't want to get my car dirty  -
... and I take it you binned the old ones! - It amazes me the amount of faulty leads that get sold (were they GSF by the way?) Always worth checking with a Multimetre before fitment! (should be just below 4 ohm resistance) Halfords do BOSCH leads and they list the G60 in there book but can get them anymore, I think i'll buy some Blue Ignitors at Inters!

If you don't get anywhere with this and I take it the charger is off already, use a piece of string to determine the length of pelt you need then go to your local Gates dealer and get the Poly V belt of that diam...

Boge and Sachs are the same company, I think they use the Boge name for the cheaper stuff tho...

We were talking about this at our local club GTi meet tonite, basically it sounds like a complete balls up on club GTi's part, there charging the traders so much that several have pulled out so don't expect to pick up many bargains! The reason for the 5 cars per stand is apparently because they didn't like the fact that last year people parked there cars on the stands and went to look around the show!! (what were we meant to do!) - we've all got to park somewhere anyway and theres more than enough room! Most of this was caused be Club GTi's 'security' fat fuker 'Colin' who anyone who has had a run in with him before will know the bloke is a complete and utter cockmuncher! - He had a meeting with Suffolk Police about the event and has encouraged tham to set up a few speed cameras to keep them happy and make a bit of money out of us - you have been warned! All in all, the hosts of our local region (where the event is hosted) are thinking about boycotting the whole thing as its going to cost them more money for a stand than the money they have had from the club from memberships etc over the last year!

Nice one my son! - change your name!! 8)

It is good but you need a consistent amount of rain and speed to make it work, depends on the type of journey

195 50 15 - 82V were standard fitment in the UK
-
Yeah, Its the light on the picture (or lack of it) - I think the car looks good but the lighting they used doesn't really do the wheels justice
-
Yeah, I got one of these off a polo, the Original G60 one was the same shape but leather with a shiny black insert (where the silver bit is) - I need to swap them over really, prefer a leather wheel!
-
You lazy git!! ..... where did you get them?
-
So thats why you carry the 9mm

I have seen this mod done a few times and I may do this in the summer but have just made a rear aero-style (lupo) wiper arm for it. I think you could maybe leave the motor in place as its not direct drive and just remove the mech with the spindle attached but if your doing it permenently then you may as well remove the motor... I never really use my back wiper anyway as the C doesn't tend to suffer the same as the mk2 in terms of road dirt getting kicked up onto it. You just need to get a rubber grommet to cover the hole, it will look fine, filling is not really recomended as it is so close to the rear screen seal. As for the MOT, it should be fine if the hole is covered as it is not compulsory to have a rear wiper but if one is there they check it, I would hang onto the parts anyway just incase!
