Hmmm... If its just after startup then it probably is just condensation and deposits that have settled in the exhaust but if you are getting it at speed after the engine is warm then you have a problem, expesially if the smoke blue in colour, but like Henn y says, don't panic if its just dark as it could be running rich... get you Lambda etc checked out.

The fans are the same as the mk2 ones (about £50) - easy to take out but the unit itself is fairly sealed, you could still try and get rid of any grit using an airduster and then spray some lube in there to see if it improves things...

kuksool, my local dealer is Wolsey in Ipswich - there pretty good for parts but I wouldnt trust them to work on the car! - I have heard alot of bad stories about them and alot of people round here drive to Stowmarket (Barnards) or all the way up to Bury for servicing because of better overall customer care. Kev - DON'T diss the Vauxhall Ashtray man, Its reliable even if it does look like a minature fire engine!

They do look good but I think most of us agree the Corrado's styling was almost spot on out of the Karmann factory and it only needs a few subtle mods to improve or individualise it. Altho major mods like the above look unique, the quality is never as good as the original's making it hard to get them to look they were factory fitted items.

Headlinings are mostly light in colour for some reason, alot of people on the Vortex have dyed them black...

VAG say 80k if not before on most cars of that age, mine was changed after 55k after 'visible signs of wear' but not sure if VAG changed it so going to do it again just incase! From the dealer, the Belt was £4.50 and the tensioner £18 I also bought the nut and washer which were a few pence extra(these were club prices and don't include VAT)

Yeah, sorry I know the one you mean now, there not original and i've seen em at shows for all sorts of cars - look ok but nothing wrong with the original!

The outer parts of the mechs are chromed - I got mine at Inters but I think they had been chromed ie were not like that from VW.

Here is the diag with the part numbers for the posible locks that are compatible with your handle (you cannot see the part number for this but it is correct - 357 839 206A ) Also shows the black cover you can get if your mechs aren't chromed, like mine :) Cap in satin black - 537 839 089 (090 for other side)
