  1. Yeah although I had a pretty good 280mm setup with Black diamond discs and DS2500's and the 312's are just standard VAG so maybe not as much but is still a lot better and more stable at higher speeds - braking from 80 feels much more positive. Less chance of fade too as the bad contact area is around 50% more - will probably fit uprated pads next year too.
  2. Yeah basically - it's tricky getting the amount you need to remove correct - I gave the machine shop the carriers / discs and a spare hub but still had to file away slightly at the part of the carrier the disc runs through for it to clear - I had issues with them rubbing as the brakes heated up. All good now though, been on over a year and I've done about 18k miles - pads around half worn and discs still look new! Hoses - same as you would on a VR using 288's / 312's, either standard late VR6 Golf or Goodridge which I used...
  3. I think it used to be £45 + VAT but remember all VW prices went up 2 days ago plus the VAT increase...
  4. They'll be M6 bolts but not sure how long - use stainless though if you can... I'd get the pump from VW if you can - pattern ones don't fit very well
  5. Yeah - sounds like it's stuck open, easy enough to change and yes buy all the parts including housing and bolts... only thing that makes it difficult will be the PAS bracket which needs to come out the way. You could condsider changing the pump too as you're doing a full coolant change.
  6. To be fair it was hardly standard - hadn't she bored it out to a 1.5, painted the rocker cover pink and and fitted a 'supercharging' device in the form of a 12V powered babyliss travel hairdryer going into a K&N 57i indudction kit...
  7. Yeah sounds like bad steering allignment / tracking...
  8. Always go to VW / TPS for stuff like this, always cheaper and far better quality
  9. Think we've found the issue - the DVLA have it as WVWZZZ1J21P141878 when it should be WVWZZZ1JZ1P141878.
  10. They've always been available mate - they can't tell stock status, he just meant in the UK as thye always keep a central stock of things like this as they are 'consumables' Guys - we really need to keep this thread to things we know are obselete rather than flooding it with questions.
  11. Nice to hear from you Bill - are you doing any shows this years?
  12. He had the TC off which you need to take the seat off to get to the switch IIRC - with it on you can't wheelie - there is a feature that prevents it lifting the front wheel off...
  13. Yeah, no I appreciate that mate - just thought it looked better than the average alarm install but as you say, unless it came out of the factory like it you don't want it there!
  14. Yeah - was quite funny and also the new Stig and references to the old one... Liked the Skoda and the 911 bits with the reference to the VW Beetle That bike that was racing the Atom is what is currently sitting in my garage - the S1000RR 8)
  15. It's all in the instruction manual in the DIY section...
  16. Yeah he did - just trying to think what other sensitive / chip based electronics there are... maybe try an ECU but I doubt that's it. Spoiler module maybe or I wonder if the diode pack in the alternator has popped? It's not clear from that link above if the fault was in the cluster or the wiring to it - maybe worth jumping the plug as described though to test
  17. Maybe push down very slightly while turning, it's like a bayonet fit
  18. Boot switch? Like the light in the trunk? Yup, easy to test, just take out the parcel shelf...
