  1. ....stumbled across a source of these, not cheap at £115 plus P+P but seriously tempted, think they add the finishing touch to a Corrado interior
  2. I've heard that many of these driving days have strict limits on the revs that can be used. The day my wife went on a few weeks ago was superb, no rev limits and plenty of time in the cars, really relaxed and pleasant instructors too. Booked it through Drivers Dream Days but heres was the Ultimate Supercar Day, even that didn't give her as much time in the cars as she'd have liked. I'm looking forward to my Mintex National day at the Bill Gwynne rally school in a MK2 Escort
  3. What do you think http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/first_offi ... 297&page=1
  4. I used Autoglym Machine cleaner, less than one spray bottle (£5) to do the engine bay, all door shuts, all wheelarches etc. Spray on, agitate with a paintbrush and hose off, best stuff I've ever used for heavy duty cleaning, safe on paintwork too. Running costs should not be too bad, the Torsen diff is pretty robust, suppose the engine has the potential for big bills with quad cams and 30 valves, apparently they are pretty bulletproof if maintained properly, thats why I was specifically looking for one with a fully stamped up service book. Economy wise I've been told that 30-32mpg should be pretty achievable.
  5. It is a bit soft and wallowy but that will get sorted out with a new suspension set-up. Performance is very strong, road tests state 0-60 in just over 7 seconds and it tops out at 148mph. The four wheel drive system is the quattro system straight out of the Audi A6 rather than the Haldex Volkswagen system and its the Audi V6. I saw it on E-Bay and it was attracting a fair number of bids. I liked the look of it and manuals are rarer than the autos so made him an offer to buy outside of E-Bay. If I'd had the inclination I reckon I could have chipped him at least £100 when I arrived yesterday because of the state it was in but I knew I'd got myself a damn good deal and that with lots of elbow grease the car would come good.
  6. The alloys are totally screwed, really bad lacquer peel but they have virtually new tyres so will probably stay on them for the worst of the winter. Bonnet needs a bit of paint due to stone chips but hoping a Smart Repair outfit will be able to sort it out - whole car has one tiny dent on it. Its a hell of a car for £2,200
  7. Picked up the Passat Syncro yesterday - third car I've bought sight unseen and this time I really thought I'd come unstuck. Absolutely filthy inside and out. Covered in baked on tree sap (counted at least 80 patches). I honestly don't think the car had been washed or hoovered in the 2 years the guy had owned it for. Fortunately I could see a basically sound car underneath, fully stamped service book and a £850 bill from 2 weeks ago were all positive signs. After much hard work today, I'm glad I still bought it. Much quicker than I thought it would be, the quattro drivetrain gives unbelievable traction and the 30V V6 is smooth and free revving. Just need to get it lowered and on 18" rims now. Before and after pics from todays efforts, just a clean, the paint cleansing, polish and wax will have to be done next weekend. Thank god for Autoglym Machine Cleaner.
  8. Posted in another thread (The Syncro has landed) is the results using Autoglym Machine cleaner, old paintbrush and a hosepipe - fantastic results for minimal effort, best product I've ever used for general cleaning
  9. I've been told that the IROC will not get anything bigger than the 2.0TFSi, can't see it myself. Talking to a couple of technical people from Volkswagen earlier on this week and apparently there will only be one version of the 3.6 litre engine, outputs may vary slightly but that will be down to exhausts rather than anything as fundamental as direct injection. I can't understand why manufacturers always quote power as PS now, I know its the European standard but they alwyas then go on to quote BHP anyway, the 296BHP of the R36 lump is exactly 300PS.
  10. That sounds suspiciously like the one for sale in Norfolk, the price he told me he'd like for it sounded more than reasonable.
  11. How to pick an already ugly car even uglier http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/first_offi ... 295&page=1 More powerful than expected at 296BHP but starting price of £28k!!!!!
  12. Can honestly say that I loved my Series 1 Primera e-GT. Might only have had 150 bhp but the car itself was quite light and the thing revved like crazy. It was a company car and it did 100k in 18 months with 100% reliability. Looked ver plain in dark green metallic but it left a surprising number of cars behind in a straight line, it was even better across country, superb chassis on what was basically a medium sized family car.
  13. I've done 40k in 15 months in my blue G60 - glad its going to a new home on Saturday where it will lead a gentler life. In all that time it needed two new tyres and a set of pads, plus the usual oil changes, sold it for £400 less than I bought it for - that to me is pretty cheap motoring
  14. Mmmm, twin turbo 5.2 litre Lambo V10 http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/secret_new ... 289&page=1
  15. Now I may be being a little thick here but isn't drilling a petrol actually quite dangerous, single spark and the whole thing will go up
  16. Isn't the 3.6 already in US spec Passat VR's, should be a nice sub-S4 type car, pity the B6 Passat is so pig ugly
  17. Sam, there is no advantage in having Saab Finance, its from GMAC anyway (General Motors Acceptance Corporation), there are literally hundreds of independent contract hire companies that would match and probably beat finance figures from Saab
  18. PM sent with details of where you can find pics and history of the car
  19. I bought what my dad would have advised me to buy - reasonably big, comfy, safe, nippy
  20. Won't be staying standard...not for long anyway :D
  21. Bought a Passat - at least its a V6 Syncro The Corrado was a really nice car, even the wheelarches were spotless, just needs the oil leak sorting, admittedly its only a tiny trickle. Advised the seller that he needs to advertise it on here - I could have had it for 3k so its not over-priced. Andy
  22. ...not a Corrado, but still have the Nugget to play with at weekends. Stuck with a VW, but went for one with a decent spec: leather and alcantra trim, climate control, airbags, cd autochanger, V6, four wheel drive......yep, I've joined Andi and bought a Passat V6 Syncro Unbelievable value for money, one I've bought has full Volkswagen service history, 12 months MOT, new tyres, discs, pads, brake hoses all round, only two previous owners, 6 months tax - all for less than 2.5k
  23. ...went to see one this morning, resprayed two years ago but a good quality job, 124k but obviously been well looked after. Chains not done but no suspicious noises, nearly did the deal but the sellers reluctance to but 12 months MOT on it (expires next month) and a slight oil leak from the head gasket put me off.... the search for a nice Corrado to replace my G60 goes on, now giving serious thought to a nice G60 or Valver, not THAT obsessed with a VR

    Car Covers

You can easily pay £200 for a car cover, I've just bought one for the MK1 Golf, is semi-tailored and set me back about £100, simple advice is to buy the best you can afford
  25. I'll be keeping the Speedlines on my new VR6 but dropping it a little - tyres are dirt cheap on 15"
