  1. Damon Hill would have been a good choice, he only lives about 5 miles from Dunsfold
  2. The first Stig was Perry Mcarthy, one of the nicest and unluckiest people in British motorsport - his autobiography is a great read
  3. For those that want to fast forward its at 1.45 in to the vid
  4. The Aqua Blue I had until last November did 50,000 miles in the 18 months I had it - apart from regualr oil / filter changes all it needed in 18 months was rear wheel bearings, pads all round and a set of tyres - no problems whatsoever but I did make sure the oil temps was at least 80% before going over 3000rpm and I always drove slowly for the last few minutes of a journey to allow the oil to cool a little
  5. The MX-5 I had when I was working with Mazda in Austria, it was a development car and was literally falling to pieces, suspension geometry was miles out etc - it was crushed after I'd finished using it - not only nasty but also felt dangerous
  6. If the offer came from someone who happens to want your car and it hasn't been advertised I'd go back and ask for £200 more, if they know that you are considering selling anyway then I'd take it Currently debating whether to sell the Nugget G60 - don't want to but its only done 1500 miles in the last twelve months and with a baby on the way the money would be handy
  7. Looks nice - we never got the Exclusive over in the UK but I do have a full brochure on it - would have sold well in the UK

    Alcon Brakes

My Racing Puma had Alcon brakes, fantastic when they were warm - expensive to maintain, needed a £300 service every 12 months, sure this was down to the spec of brake that Ford required rather than it being an intrinsic problem with Alcon brakes.. Would certainly be interested in a Group Buy.
  9. Any tyre will last longer than Goodyear F1's. I had G-Force Profilers on my blue G60 - pretty good compromise tyre in terms of wear rate, ride comfort, grip (both wet and dry) etc - very cheap as well I have had T1-S before and found them pretty good, they did wear pretty quickly, can only assume that the T1-R is better
  10. I let my wife drive the NUgget once - never stops going on about how it would make sense if she used it for going to work in on a regular basis.
  11. I've been building a tool collection for a couple of years now - if nothing else it gives you the confidence to tackle jobs. The Irwin bolt grippers are superb, helped me out on countless occassions.
  12. Sounds like you had a good result Jim, so many jobs are much easier when you have some decent and correct tools
  13. That does look better than most of the 1/43 scale Corrados that I have got so just followed the link and acquired one - along with a few other models - one little link has just cost me £140 :(
  14. ....just found out that my wife has bought me a Peloquin diff for Christmas
  15. Plus points: Incredibly comfortable Grip and security of the four wheel drive Surprisingly quick Quiet and refined Still get some looks - now that it is non-standard Climate control Bad points: Not as economical: 29 mpg - was getting 36 out of the G60 Not as much fun to drive Definitely made the right decision to go down the Passat route, just glad I've still got a G60 tucked up in the garage though
  16. Very few road cars on sale actually generate downforce and recent years have seen a move to minimising lift taking place on cleaning up the airflow under the car, in some cases helping to achieve zero lift or a tiny amount of downforce. Something which hasn't been mentioned in terms of aerodynamic qualities of vehicles is the far more relevant CDa, the frontal area of any given vehicle has as much if not more to do with overall aerodynamic efficiency. Sorry to be an anorak but the Calibra had a CD of 0.26 but only for the 2.0 8V steel wheeled version, the wider tyres and alloy wheels of the 16V increased the CD to 0.28.
  17. Wasn't until I bought the Passat that I realised how firm riding and noisy the Corrado is as an everyday car, will still never sell the Nugget but glad its not my only car
  18. Heres one of mine - not quite finished yet. Worth looking at http://www.ukpassats.co.uk, not a busy site but its got some decent info on it
  19. One of last of the old school F1 drivers http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsp ... 184347.stm
  20. We've got both a Bora and a Passat, neither TDi's. Passat, although it does not look much bigger is massively more spacious. Tbh I don't think you can wrong with either although Boras tend to be bought by older people, less likely to have been company cars and are therefore likely to be lower mileage and better looked after. Just avoid the Desert Racing Beige though
  21. I certainly won't be steering you in the direction of Colbornes - my colleague covers the S East Volkswagen sites but he just got a stonking deal on a PAC car, Passat Sport TDi estate with DSG, comfortably less than your budget but I think it may have been a one off deal
  22. Be aware that Volkswagen have had major warranty issues with the Passat - mainly electrical and worst on the TDi units. The company I work for run a numbe rof new Passats and they have not been great reliability wise. I've driven a 1.9 Laguna TDi and it was awful - no performance at all - BUT it was very comfortable. If you go down the Volkswagen route, let me know and I'll point you in the direction of someone who'll be able to do a very good deal for you. If you want a specific spec on a Jetta or Passat you need to be prepared to wait for up to 16 weeks, network stock is poor at the moment and 60%+ of sales are factory orders that are currently taking 4 months to come through - the joys of modern manufacturing techniques
  23. The Octavia VRS all the way, a colleague has done 50k miles in a 140PS Octavia Sport with DSG, he's averaged 46mpg and says that its the best company car he has ever had. What about the Leon TDi as well?
  24. Eibach suspension fitted yesterday, running 40mm lower now, removed a lot of the wallow whilst retaining decent ride comfort so pretty satisfied. New 18" Nuvolaris went on today - virtually how I want it now, just a couple more tweaks
  25. Glad they are going to be fitted to a Rado, not sure if I like them but good to see something being fitted
